Cardinals | Matt Adams could miss season

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:55:15 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (quadriceps) will miss three-to-four months with a grade two strain, according to an official team statement Wednesday, May 27. Team officials have said Adams could miss the rest of the season. 1B Mark Reynolds is listed as the next option at first base on the Cardinals' depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has been used mostly as a platoon option against right-handed pitchers this season. The Cardinals' are likely to look outside of the organization for Adams' replacement, with Ryan Howard's name among those rumored to be of interest.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds filling in at 1B

Wed, 27 May 2015 16:16:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds will be the primary first baseman with 1B Matt Adams (quadriceps) out for an extended period of time. Reynolds is hitting .250 with three home runs and 12 RBI in part-time duty, with 11 starts at first base and three at third base.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will see his value increase dramatically in traditional formats with regular playing time. If you're in need of power in shallow mixed leagues, he might be worth the pickup. At FantasyScore, Reynolds remains a matchup play for his fence-clearing ability.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds starting at first base

Wed, 27 May 2015 14:33:52 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is playing first base and batting seventh against the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday, May 27.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds' ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) fantasy value is on the rise in seasonal formats with Matt Adams potentially missing a substantial chunk of time with a quadriceps injury. FantasyScore players could have a nice low-priced option on their hands, too. Just note, Reynolds is typically feast or famine at the plate.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday scratched Sunday

Sun, 24 May 2015 11:09:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday (arm) was a last-minute scratch from the starting lineup against the Kansas City Royals Sunday, May 24, because of a left arm contusion. INF/OF Mark Reynolds started in left field in place of Holliday, batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) likely sustained the injury after getting hit in the left arm by pitches in each of the team's last two games. It is uncertain how much time he will miss or if he's available as a pinch hitter. Check back for updates on his status.

Cardinals | Jason Heyward not starting

Sat, 23 May 2015 13:52:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is not in the starting lineup Saturday, May 23, against the Kansas City Royals. OFs Matt Holliday, Randal Grichuk and Peter Bourjos will start with 1B Mark Reynolds serving as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has three home runs on the season, and he has the ability to offer some occasional power. With a 33.7% strikeout rate and hitting out of the eighth spot in the batting order, Reynolds doesn't need much consideration on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds draws into the lineup

Thu, 21 May 2015 08:15:14 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is batting seventh and playing left field against the New York Mets Thursday, May 21.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has heated up of late, and he has seven runs, two home runs and eight RBI with a .327/.364/.500 slash line over his last 15 games. FantasyScore players should view him as an upside source of cap relief, but Reynolds is somewhat feast or famine at the dish, so he isn't without risk Thursday.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday sitting vs. Mets

Thu, 21 May 2015 08:07:08 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Thursday, May 21. 1B Mark Reynolds is batting seventh and playing left field Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Holliday ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday, it is likely nothing more than a routine day off on getaway day. Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has hit a hot streak over the past 15 games, as he sports a .327/.364/.500 slash line with seven runs, two home runs and eight RBI. FantasyScore players should view him as an upside source of cap relief, albeit a somewhat risky one against stingy starting pitcher Jacob deGrom.

Sat, 16 May 2015 08:52:30 -0700

Cardinals | Matt Adams benched Friday

Fri, 15 May 2015 14:02:09 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is not in the starting lineup Friday, May 15. 1B Mark Reynolds is starting at first base and hitting fifth in the batting order against Detroit Tigers SP Shane Greene.

Fantasy Tip: The big lefty Adams is struggling in May, with just five hits in 41 at-bats (.122), and he hasn't homered since April 30. Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is typically an all-or-nothing daily commodity if you feel like living dangerously at FantasyScore tonight. You should think about benching Adams in traditional leagues if you haven't already done so.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds the DH against Tribe

Tue, 12 May 2015 11:39:48 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is serving as the designated hitter and hitting eighth in the batting order against Cleveland Indians SP Carlos Carrasco Tuesday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) is likely to see more at-bats this week while the Cardinals play in an American League park with the DH in play. Reynolds has plenty of pop, but that far down in the order doesn't make him all that attractive to FantasyScore users.
