Cardinals | Mark Reynolds out of the lineup

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 10:50:29 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy Sunday, July 5. 1B Xavier Scruggs will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Scruggs ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has been pretty successful at the plate in his limited playing time, but owners on FantasyScore may want to spend a little money to use a better option.

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 10:30:29 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres SP Odrisamer Despaigne Saturday, July 4, batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is just 5-for-38 (.132) over his last 10 games and should be avoided in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds dropped to seventh

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 12:02:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds was dropped to seventh in the batting order against San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross Thursday, July 2. OF Jason Heyward is hitting cleanup Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has only 20 hits in 91 at-bats (.220) with 31 strikeouts, two home runs and 13 RBI since June 1. Ross has only allowed three home runs in 95 2/3 innings, too, and he's fanning 9.9 hitters per nine innings in 2015. It's a bad matchup for Reynolds on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | No Matt Carpenter Tuesday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 15:16:43 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is not in the lineup against Chicago White Sox left-handed SP Chris Sale Tuesday, June 30. 1B Mark Reynolds is starting at third base, while 1B Xavier Scruggs is starting at first base and hitting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Scruggs ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) should be left alone tonight on FantasyScore in a bad matchup. Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is also a weak play against this dominant southpaw.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds not in lineup Sunday

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 14:34:40 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds is not starting Sunday, June 28, against the Chicago Cubs. 1B Xavier Scruggs is starting in Reynolds' place.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is 2-for-14 (.143) against Cubs starter Jason Hammel, but Scruggs ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) doesn't have any history against Hammel yet carries a .571 average during the past week. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny may be going for the hot hand here, so roll the dice on Scruggs.

Cardinals | No Matt Carpenter Tuesday

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 12:17:11 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 3B Matt Carpenter is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, June 23. 1B Mark Reynolds is starting at third base and hitting cleanup, while 1B Xavier Scruggs starts at first and is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) loses some FantasyScore luster while taking hacks in the spacious Marlins Park. Scruggs ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) can be ignored everywhere.

Cardinals | Xavier Scruggs starting at 1B Saturday

Sat, 20 Jun 2015 13:00:26 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Xavier Scruggs will make the start at first base Saturday, June 20, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Scruggs will bat seventh in the order against RHP Phillippe Aumont with 1B Mark Reynolds out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Scruggs had 11 home runs, 35 runs scored and 35 RBI in 248 plate appearances at Class AAA before being re-called. Scruggs is a power hitter with an above-average on-base percentage. Unless he can manage to earn regular playing time over Reynolds, Scruggs won't be a fantasy option, and he should only be used against lefties on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds coming alive

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 20:52:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds went 1-for-4 with a pair of RBIs Tuesday, June 16, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,700; or 7.4% of cap) has managed at least one RBI in each of his past three games while totaling nine hits over his past 28 at-bats (.321). At this price level he is a decent add for FantasyScore players, and he has solid power potential. Just be careful as he strikes out frequently, too.

Cardinals | Matt Adams could miss season

Wed, 27 May 2015 18:55:15 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams (quadriceps) will miss three to four months with a Grade 2 strain, according to an official team statement Wednesday, May 27. Team officials have said Adams could miss the rest of the season. 1B Mark Reynolds is listed as the next option at first base on the Cardinals' depth chart.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) has been used mostly as a platoon option against right-handed pitchers this season. The Cardinals' are likely to look outside of the organization for Adams' replacement, with Ryan Howard's name among those rumored to be of interest.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds filling in at 1B

Wed, 27 May 2015 16:16:07 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds will be the primary first baseman with 1B Matt Adams (quadriceps) out for an extended period of time. Reynolds is hitting .250 with three home runs and 12 RBI in part-time duty, with 11 starts at first base and three at third base.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will see his value increase dramatically in traditional formats with regular playing time. If you're in need of power in shallow mixed leagues, he might be worth the pickup. At FantasyScore, Reynolds remains a matchup play for his fence-clearing ability.
