Brewers | Chris Carter signs with Milwaukee

Wed, 06 Jan 2016 15:23:22 -0800

Free-agent 1B Chris Carter (Astros) signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with $500,000 in incentives with the Milwaukee Brewers Wednesday, Jan. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Carter has the upside to hit 30 home runs and drive in 80 RBI, which makes him a great late-round option, if you're power starved. The issue is Carter owns a .218/.312/.459 slash line over the past three seasons. He will also have to play first base in the National League, which could prove to be another factor limiting his upside and could potentially limit his playing time to a degree.

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 10:21:48 -0800

Free-agent 1B Pedro Alvarez (Pirates), 1B Steve Pearce (Orioles), 1B Ike Davis (Athletics), 1B Chris Carter (Astros) and 1B/OF Daniel Nava (Rays) are of interest to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Whoever lands at first for Milwaukee will have some value, possibly hitting between Ryan Braun and Jonathan Lucroy.

Indians | Cleveland eyeing free-agent sluggers

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 15:30:29 -0800

Free-agent 1Bs Pedro Alvarez (Pirates) and Chris Carter (Astros) are of interest to the Cleveland Indians.

Fantasy Tip: Cleveland hasn't had a full-time designated hitter over the past three seasons, and Alvarez and Carter are both best suited for the DH role. Both hitters own 30-homer, 80-RBI upside and are still in their offensive primes. Neither will help in any of the batting average, run or stolen base categories, but with full-time at-bats, both are late-round sources of power in seasonal leagues.

Astros | Chris Carter not tendered contract

Thu, 03 Dec 2015 05:23:33 -0800

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter was non-tendered Wednesday, Dec. 2, and is now a free agent.

Fantasy Tip: Carter hit just .199 with 151 strikeouts in 391 at-bats, but he hit 24 homers. He has a ton of pop if you can deal with the average later in drafts.

Astros | Chris Carter on the trade block

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 11:25:56 -0800

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is being shopped to American League teams ahead of the contract tender deadline Wednesday, Dec. 2, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Carter's a defensive liability, so sticking in the AL is likely for the slugger. Since joining the Astros, Carter has averaged 30 home runs and 78 RBI over the past three seasons, however, the power numbers are anchored by his .218/.312/.459 slash line. He is a reliable power source in the late rounds of drafts, but don't expect him to help outside of home runs and RBI.

Astros | Chris Carter could be non-tendered

Wed, 25 Nov 2015 04:29:09 -0800

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter could be non-tendered before or on the Dec. 2 deadline for tender offers to be made to arbitration-eligible players.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Carter roared to over a .400 average in the postseason, apparently a batting average around .200 takes you only so far despite 30-40 homers a year. The Astros also have prospect A.J. Reed ready to go down the line. Carter could be a sleeper selection in lower rounds of mixed drafts if he ends up in a good spot.

Astros | Chris Carter continues postseason run

Mon, 12 Oct 2015 00:23:39 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter had a solo homer in the seventh inning during Game 3 of the American League Division Series on Sunday, Oct. 11. Carter now has a .455 postseason average after he hit .199 in the regular season.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has had a renewed rush of confidence following a lackluster regular season. Continue playing him in FantasyScore as long as he's hitting in the playoffs.

Astros | Chris Carter shows off good eye

Tue, 06 Oct 2015 22:01:21 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter walked in all three plate appearances in the wild-card game in the American League Tuesday, Oct. 6, against the New York Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($4,300, 8.6% of cap) is a boom or bust FantasyScore option most nights, as he strikes out a ton but also has prodigious power.

Astros | Chris Carter finishing the season strong

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 12:05:44 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter owns a .342/.444/.947 slash line with seven home runs and 13 RBI since Friday, Aug. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is notoriously streaky, and he has four home runs over his past five games. Seasonal owners looking for a flier down the stretch could do a lot worse than rolling the dice with Carter while he is hot. He possess upside cap relief at FantasyScore, too.

Astros | Chris Carter continues to help HOU

Thu, 01 Oct 2015 00:50:28 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter smacked a three-run homer to help his team climb back into the game Wednesday, Sept. 30, against the Seattle Mariners. The Astros eventually won the game 7-6.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) recorded his 24th home run of the season and continued a red-hot final month. He's hitting .455 in the last week and finished September with a .345 mark. If it's how you finish a season, then he's finishing it strong. He makes a very good cap-saver.
