Astros | Luis Valbuena starts at first base

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 14:00:13 -0700

Houston Astros 3B Luis Valbuena is starting at first base and batting eighth against Texas Rangers SP Colby Lewis Monday, Aug. 3. 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Valbuena ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has gone 94 plate appearances without hitting a home run, and he has just eight runs, five doubles, five RBI and a .614 OPS over the 23-game stretch. He is a risky FantasyScore play Monday, albeit one with upside. Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is currently 3-for-40 at the dish with two of the hits being of the home run variety. Similar to Valbuena, Carter is a hit-or-miss daily option. Each projects to lose fantasy value if they enter into a platoon at first base, which is a legitimate possibility.

Astros | Chris Carter playing first base

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 10:49:48 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter will bat eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Jeremy Hellickson Saturday, Aug. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is an inexpensive source of power but his .184 average scares many fantasy owners away and makes him in a risky play in FantasyScore.

Astros | Chris Carter out Friday

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 16:29:27 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 31. SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and is hitting eighth against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) could find himself out of the lineup more often than not now that Jed Lowrie is back in the infield picture for Houston. Carter has impressive power, but his .184 average (56-for-305) kills his fantasy owners, and if he's not seeing as much playing time, he's even less attractive to fantasy owners. Gonzalez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is a very mediocre, at best, shortstop play on FantasyScore.

Astros | Evan Gattis gets a day off

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 16:25:06 -0700

Houston Astros OF Evan Gattis is getting a routine day off Thursday, July 30, against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker. 1B Chris Carter will fill in as the designated hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) picks up his DH duties, although he's not a recommended play this evening. The lumbering slugger has struggled mightily as of late, having only five hits in the month of July in 44 at-bats -- good for a putrid .114 average. Shoemaker is allowing 1.6 homers per nine innings this year, but he's been much better of late. Carter is still more of a dice roll in daily formats on the chance he connects and goes deep.

Astros | Chris Carter not playing

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 15:42:07 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 29. 1B Jon Singleton is starting at first base and is hitting eighth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Garrett Richards.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has yet again struggled to transition to the majors, as he has only seven hits in 41 at-bats (.171 average) with no home runs and 16 strikeouts. He'll continue to be a low-end first base pick on FantasyScore, especially with inconsistent playing time off the bench.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez in two-hole

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:02:51 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and hitting second against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson Tuesday, July 28. 1B Chris Carter is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) receives a slight daily boost with the move up the batting order, and he could be an attractive sleeper with his .304 (24-for-79) average against lefties this year. Three of his seven homers have come off lefties in 2015.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez starting at first base

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 09:12:01 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and batting seventh against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Sunday, July 26. 1Bs Chris Carter and Jon Singleton are not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) stands as a sneaky source of cap relief at FantasyScore Sunday. While his production is modest (.267/.300/.438 with 27 runs, seven home runs and 22 RBI over 222 plate appearances), Ventura ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has struggled (6.21 ERA over his past six starts), so the Astros have a chance to score plenty Sunday.

Astros | Chris Carter sitting out

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 14:02:41 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie Friday, July 24. 1B Jon Singleton will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Singleton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting .184 with four RBI this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Astros | Chris Carter out of the lineup

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 13:42:19 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Wednesday, July 22. 1B Jon Singleton will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Singleton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting only .167 this season and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Astros | Chris Carter breaks out of slump

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 22:33:32 -0700

Houston Astros DH Chris Carter (ankle) returned to the lineup Tuesday, July 21, against the Boston Red Sox after missing two games due to an ankle injury. He hit a solo home run with a walk and two RBIs in three at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600; or 7.2% of cap) is a great source of power for FantasyScore players when he is running hot, but just beware of his strikeout totals which can be high.
