Royals | Joakim Soria struggles in save situation

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 19:30:58 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Joakim Soria (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning in a loss to the Cleveland Indians Thursday, June 2. He entered the game in a save situation because RP Wade Davis was given the day off, after pitching three times in the previous four days.

Fantasy Tip: Soria is no stranger to the closer's role, having earned 24 saves last season and 203 in his career. Owners in AL-only fantasy leagues, along with anyone desperate for saves, should consider having the 32-year-old right-hander on their roster in case Davis gets injured down the line or is unavailable due to an excessive workload.

Royals | Wade Davis earns save

Sat, 28 May 2016 05:14:02 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Chicago White Sox Friday, May 27, to pick up his 13th save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has picked up the save in each of his last five appearances and currently has a 1.02 ERA. He should receive plenty of save opportunities and should be used in all fantasy leagues.

Royals | Wade Davis back with KC for 2016 season

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 12:49:04 -0800

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis' 2016 club option was picked up by the team.

Fantasy Tip: Since moving to the bullpen, Davis owns a 0.97 ERA, a 0.82 WHIP and a 12.1 K/9 through 139 1/3 innings over the past two seasons. He projects as a top-tier closer heading into the 2016 season.

Royals | Wade Davis has stiff back

Fri, 02 Oct 2015 09:07:21 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (back) was held out Thursday, Oct. 1, with a stiff back. RP Ryan Madson was used in the ninth inning instead against the Chicago White Sox. Manager Ned Yost said Davis' back isn't serious.

Fantasy Tip: Davis remains the Royals' closer with Greg Holland (elbow) having Tommy John surgery Friday, but it remains to be seen how much he'll pitch this weekend before the playoffs start.

Royals | Greg Holland seeking second opinion

Fri, 25 Sep 2015 08:00:12 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland (elbow), who has a significant tear in the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, will seek a second opinion from Dr. Neal ElAttrache next week. Holland's season is over and the injury will likely require surgery. An MRI exam Aug. 31 showed the tear, but Holland wanted to try to pitch through it. He said his elbow had been bothering him since August of last year, but he didn't want to undergo tests. RP Wade Davis will take over in the closer role moving forward.

Fantasy Tip: Drop Holland immediately and seek out other closing options if you owned him. Davis is likely owned already in most leagues, and he just became much more intriguing for 2016 if Holland indeed has to get Tommy John surgery and miss all of next year, as well.

Royals | Greg Holland nursing sore elbow

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 08:55:13 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Greg Holland (elbow) continues to nurse a sore elbow, which is one of the reasons why he was ousted as the team's closer in favor of RP Wade Davis for the rest of the season and postseason. Holland has saved 32 games in 37 tries this year with a 3.83 ERA and was charged with a blown save and loss last Friday. Holland's velocity had also dropped from the mid-90s to the upper 80s and low 90s. "Rest isn't going to help him," manager Ned Yost said. "He's been functional through it all year long. It's getting a little more sore the last month or so and he continues to go out, pitch through it and he's been successful for the most part." Davis has 13 saves in 14 chances with a 7-1 record and 0.88 ERA on the year.

Fantasy Tip: Now that Holland won't be getting anymore save chances, he's not worth a roster spot in any formats. Davis was already widely owned before this move, but pick him up immediately if he's out there in your league.

Royals | Wade Davis the new KC closer

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:18:05 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis is the new closer for the Royals, according to manager Ned Yost. RP Greg Holland has been removed from the role.

Fantasy Tip: Davis' numbers this year certainly justify this move (0.88 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, 10.2 K/9). If Davis wasn't already owned everywhere, he should be now. Feel free to drop Holland now that he won't be seeing save chances anymore.

Royals | Wade Davis fighting through

Mon, 14 Sep 2015 19:46:11 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (back, shoulder) has been fighting back and shoulder issues, but he has still allowed just one run over his past 12 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has no value in FantasyScore right now, but he has been a tremendous option in standard fantasy formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories. Davis might be an alternative to close if Greg Holland continues to have velocity issues, too.

Royals | Wade Davis returns to action

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 08:58:30 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (shoulder) returned to action Saturday, Sept. 12, after resting his sore right shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Davis struck out one in his inning of work, and his overall body of work (0.92 ERA in 58 2/3 innings) surely warrants ownership in deeper leagues.

Royals | Wade Davis might return Thursday

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 23:16:26 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (back) missed the past six games due to a stiff back, but he was able to throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Aug. 12, and he might be able to return Thursday, Aug. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is a tremendous fantasy option in AL-only and deeper mixed rotisserie leagues for help in the ERA and WHIP categories, as well as formats which reward holds.
