Pirates | Pedro Alvarez out of the lineup

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 11:52:56 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Pedro Alvarez is not in the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jon Lester Monday, Aug. 3. 1B Michael Morse will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Alvarez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) probably is sitting out because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is hitting only .213 this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Pirates | Pittsburgh adds Michael Morse

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 13:16:18 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired 1B Michael Morse from the Los Angeles Dodgers along with cash considerations in exchange for OF Jose Tabata Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) projects to handle the right-handed hitting side of a first base platoon with Pedro Alvarez ($4,200, 8.4% of cap). Morse is a low-end FantasyScore option in his current form, but he has potential. Sean Rodriguez ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) won't receive many starts at first going forward.

Dodgers | Michael Morse, Brandon Beachy DFA'd

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 16:31:42 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon Beachy and 1B Michael Morse were designated for assignment Thursday, July 30.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) managed just a .214 batting average in 173 plate appearances for the Miami Marlins this season. He is still just 33, and he should receive another major-league opportunity, but he likely won't have any fantasy value again this season.

Marlins | Miami adds prospects in blockbuster

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:32:28 -0700

The Miami Marlins acquired SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo as part of the a three-way trade with the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice.

Fantasy Tip: This was strictly a salary dump for the Marlins. With Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) gone, Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) should continue to receive the majority of at-bats at first base. It is unknown who will join the starting rotation, and it is unlikely the Marlins are finished their roster makeover. Stay tuned for updates.

Braves | Atlanta adds Hector Olivera

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:17:03 -0700

The Atlanta Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday, July 30. The Dodgers acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Olivera is a high-end talent who was close to joining the Dodgers at various points this season but hamstring and elbow injuries have limited his progress. He is a 30-year-old Cuban who posted a .348/.392/.493 slash line over three stops in the minor leagues this season. There is a legitimate chance he plays with the Braves this season, and he is worth a flier addition in the majority of deep formats. With Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Johnson gone, there is an opening in the starting rotation and closing duties are up for grabs. Look for Mike Foltynewicz ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) to stick in the rotation, but the closer role is a true guessing game. A speculative stab for David Carpenter, Cody Martin or David Aardsma could reward, but don't drop anyone of significance until the water is less murky.

Dodgers | Alex Wood, Mat Latos acquired by LAD

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 12:01:02 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired SP Alex Wood, SP Mat Latos, 1B Michael Morse, RP Jim Johnson, RP Luis Avilan, 2B Jose Peraza and SP Bronson Arroyo as part of the a three-way trade with the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves Thursday, July 30. The Braves acquired 2B Hector Olivera, RP Paco Rodriguez, SP Zachary Bird and a draft choice, and the Marlins added SP Kevin Guzman, SP Jeff Brigham and RP Victor Araujo.

Fantasy Tip: Wood ($6,200, 12.4% of cap) and Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) receive a huge boost starting for a strong team, which boasts an excellent offense and bullpen. They can both be started with confidence in the majority of matchups. Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has struggled significantly this season, and he will have a tough time receiving enough at-bats to tip the fantasy scales. Johnson goes from closing duties in Atlanta to being a set-up arm for the Dodgers, and he is nothing more than a desperation saves stash, as he is unlikely even the next man up.

Dodgers | Jose Peraza in proposed deal

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 09:45:57 -0700

Atlanta Braves 2B Jose Peraza is included in the proposed deal with SP Alex Wood, RP Jim Johnson and RP Luis Avilan headed to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Miami Marlins would send SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse to the Dodgers as well. The Marlins would receive P Jeff Brigham, P Victor Araujo and P Kevin Guzman. The Braves would receive RP Paco Rodriguez and 2B Hector Olivera.

Fantasy Tip: The deal is still pending because of physicals. Peraza probably doesn't have a role with the Dodgers this season, but he's a dynasty league commodity. Jim Johnson would lose much of his fantasy value as a setup man in LA. Arodys Vizcaino is expected to be the front runner to close in Atlanta if the deal goes through.

Braves | ATL on verge of adding Mike Morse?

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 19:09:59 -0700

Miami Marlins OF Michael Morse could be on his way to the Atlanta Braves as part of a three-way trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to sources. The Braves would be parting with SP Alex Wood and RP Jim Johnson, while they also would receive a compensation pick.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has done next to nothing this season in Miami, hitting a paltry .214 in 159 at-bats with four doubles, four homer and 12 RBIs while striking out 54 times. Perhaps a change of scenery would do him some good, but FantasyScore players should bother with him right now.

Dodgers | Medicals holding up Mat Latos deal

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 16:04:17 -0700

Updating a previous report, the trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins involving Marlins SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse is on hold because of medicals.

Fantasy Tip: This serves as a reminder to always stray from making hasty fantasy decisions until trades are officially confirmed. Stay tuned for an official announcement, and it might only be a minor hiccup before the deal is finalized. Starting for the Dodgers would be a huge fantasy boost for Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap).

Dodgers | Marlins-Dodgers deal not finalized

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 14:22:13 -0700

Updating a previous report, the trade between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins involving Marlins SP Mat Latos and 1B Michael Morse is far from complete and could be falling apart, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This serves as a reminder to always stray from making hasty fantasy decisions until trades are officially confirmed. Stay tuned for an official announcement, and it might only be a minor hiccup in the negotiations. Starting for the Dodgers would be a huge fantasy boost for Latos ($6,400, 12.8% of cap).
