Dodgers | Kenley Jansen to be on crutches

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 08:59:21 -0800

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen (foot) will be on crutches for about 10 days and in a protective boot for another three to four weeks after having a growth removed from one of the bones in his foot. The Dodgers have no obvious replacement at closer for Jansen, with RP Brandon League maybe being the likeliest candidate because of his 74 career saves. RP J.P. Howell has 21 career saves, and RP Joel Peralta could also be an option.

Fantasy Tip: Jensen, in a best-case scenario, will probably be ready in early May. That means the Dodgers have to fill the closer situation for a month without him. Based on Peralta's numbers with the Tampa Bay Rays the past several seasons, he seems like the best bet to handle most of the opportunities if the Dodgers don't go outside the organization for help. If you're a Jansen owner, the best course of action would be to pick up Peralta or Howell and sit on Jansen for the first month.

Dodgers | J.P. Howell to see bigger role?

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 19:52:44 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers RP J.P. Howell might be in line for a bigger role with RP Kenley Jansen (foot) sidelined eight to 12 weeks after surgery on his left foot.

Fantasy Tip: Howell has plenty of experience, but a ninth-inning job is speculation at this point. He might also be used with Brandon League and Joel Peralta in a closer-by-committee approach, or the team could look outside of the organization for help.

Dodgers | Carlos Frias makes history… in bad way

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 18:57:22 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Carlos Frias became the first pitcher in the modern era to allow 10 hits while recording fewer than three outs in a game. The Dodgers are considering a "bullpen" game the next time SP Hyun-Jin Ryu's (shoulder) place in the rotation comes up, and that could come against the Chicago Cubs Sunday, Sep. 21, with RPs Paco Rodriguez or J.P. Howell starting. Frias' ERA went from 3.91 to 6.58 in the outing.

Dodgers | Kenley Jansen, J.P. Howell were unavailable

Fri, 01 Aug 2014 09:19:50 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers RPs Kenley Jansen and J.P. Howell were both unavailable to pitch Thursday, July 31, due to recent heavy workloads.

Fantasy Tip: It didn't matter. Clayton Kershaw, the best pitcher on the planet, was pitching, and he was able to wrap up a complete-game victory.

Nationals | Interested in Eric O'Flaherty

Thu, 05 Dec 2013 14:10:52 -0800

The Washington Nationals are interested in free-agent RP Eric O'Flaherty (elbow), who is coming off Tommy John surgery. They have not made an offer but remain in contact with him. The Nats are one of six teams to show interest in him. O'Flaherty is likely seeking a one-year deal since he'll miss at least the first month of next season. Washington is also interested in free-agent RPs Boone Logan (Yankees), Scott Downs (Braves), J.P. Howell (Dodgers) and Oliver Perez (Mariners).
