The Colorado Rockies placed SP Tyler Chatwood (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation Thursday, Aug. 8. In corresponding moves, they recalled P Jeff Manship from the minors and placed SP Christian Friedrich (back) on the 60-day DL. "Tyler threw a bullpen (Tuesday), really to test his hamstring," manager Walt Weiss said. "Then today he had inflammation in his elbow. Tyler has been really good. When it rains it pours. That's a guy you would love to run out there when we are struggling like we are."
Fantasy Tip: Chad Bettis could stay in the rotation now, or the team could turn to Jeff Francis to take Chatwood's spot. Bettis probably makes more sense, but he should only be an option in NL-only leagues.

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) will be put on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right middle finger Wednesday, Aug. 7. In a corresponding move, SP Jeff Francis will be recalled from the minors. Gonzalez had been dealing with the finger injury since July 7. The DL stint will be retroactive to Aug. 5. Francis will pitch out of the bullpen.
Fantasy Tip: Corey Dickerson and Charlie Culberson will split duties in left field with Cargo on the sidelines. Culberson will likely be the fourth outfielder, with Dickerson getting the first crack at the majority of at-bats if you're searching for depth in cavernous mixed formats.

The Colorado Rockies placed SP Roy Oswalt (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, July 8.
Fantasy Tip: This was one of the fears that fantasy owners likely had if they were hesitant to own Oswalt. It's unclear who will replace him in the rotation, but Jeff Francis and Juan Nicasio are likely the best options.

The Colorado Rockies released SP Jon Garland Friday, June 28, and SP Jeff Francis accepted his assignment to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Colorado Rockies recalled SP Roy Oswalt from the minors Thursday, June 20, and optioned SP Jeff Francis to Triple-A Colorado Springs in a corresponding move. Also, SP Chris Volstad was designated for assignment.
Fantasy Tip: Oswalt probably isn't as bad as his numbers with the Texas Rangers last year reflected, but he's 35 and pitching in another unfriendly environment for hurlers. He's a risky gamble, but one you can justify taking in deep enough mixed leagues.

Colorado Rockies SP Jeff Francis has agreed to accept his minor league assignment to Triple-A Colorado Springs. Francis was cut to make room for SP Roy Oswalt, who will make his debut with the team against the Washington Nationals Thursday, June 20. SP Drew Pomeranz would be first in line for a promotion to the big leagues if the Rockies suffer an injury to their current rotation.

The Colorado Rockies are expected to option SP Jeff Francis to Triple-A Colorado Springs Thursday, June 20, as the team uses his roster spot for SP Roy Oswalt. The locker for Francis was cleared out Wednesday, June 19. There is a possibility Francis could remain in the organization, but he would need to approve the move to the minors due to his major league service time. The team wants to keep him in the organization for depth.

Colorado Rockies SP Roy Oswalt is slated to make one more start in Class AA Tulsa before coming up to start Wednesday, June 19, against the Toronto Blue Jays. SP Juan Nicasio or SP Jeff Francis may move to the bullpen, as a result.
Fantasy Tip: Oswalt could be the last SP on a deep mixed roster, but there's ample risk in his new environment. At least he'll be pitching for a National League team, though.
