Yankees | No idea who the starting pitcher will be Sunday

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 06:13:17 -0700

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi is not sure who the starting pitcher will be for the team Sunday, July 13. Newly acquired SP Jeff Francis may seem like a logical option, but he has not had a lot of work lately. "He's a guy that's probably in the 30 to 40 pitch range right now," Girardi said, noting that Francis hadn't arrived yet. "We'll talk to him when he gets here and see what he's been doing the last few days."

Yankees | Jeff Francis acquired

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 10:40:49 -0700

The New York Yankees acquired SP Jeff Francis from the Oakland Athletics Friday, July 11, according to a source. It's unknown what the A's received in return.

Fantasy Tip: Francis has a real shot to find a spot in the starting rotation in New York with injuries to Masahiro Tanaka (elbow), CC Sabathia (knee) and Michael Pineda (shoulder). However, Francis should only be considered by the pitching-desperate in AL leagues.

Rockies | Tyler Chatwood to DL

Thu, 08 Aug 2013 10:36:19 -0700

The Colorado Rockies placed SP Tyler Chatwood (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation Thursday, Aug. 8. In corresponding moves, they recalled P Jeff Manship from the minors and placed SP Christian Friedrich (back) on the 60-day DL. "Tyler threw a bullpen (Tuesday), really to test his hamstring," manager Walt Weiss said. "Then today he had inflammation in his elbow. Tyler has been really good. When it rains it pours. That's a guy you would love to run out there when we are struggling like we are."

Fantasy Tip: Chad Bettis could stay in the rotation now, or the team could turn to Jeff Francis to take Chatwood's spot. Bettis probably makes more sense, but he should only be an option in NL-only leagues.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez heading to DL

Wed, 07 Aug 2013 13:31:07 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (finger) will be put on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right middle finger Wednesday, Aug. 7. In a corresponding move, SP Jeff Francis will be recalled from the minors. Gonzalez had been dealing with the finger injury since July 7. The DL stint will be retroactive to Aug. 5. Francis will pitch out of the bullpen.

Fantasy Tip: Corey Dickerson and Charlie Culberson will split duties in left field with Cargo on the sidelines. Culberson will likely be the fourth outfielder, with Dickerson getting the first crack at the majority of at-bats if you're searching for depth in cavernous mixed formats.
