Orioles | Mark Trumbo avoids arbitration

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 09:27:12 -0800

Baltimore Orioles OF Mark Trumbo avoided arbitration by agreeing to a $9.15 million deal Thursday, Jan. 14. That is $12.85 million less than the annual value of the deal that Baltimore offered to free-agent 1B Chris Davis (Orioles). Trumbo could wind up replacing Davis at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo presents a buying opportunity this year after a down year with the Seattle Mariners. He's in the best hitting environment in his career and won't have to play much outfield, but he'll still retain outfield eligibility. Seeing him approach 40 homers in 2016 is not crazy.

Orioles | Baltimore lands Mark Trumbo

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:42:26 -0800

Updating a previous story, the Baltimore Orioles acquired OF Mark Trumbo as part of a deal that sent C Steve Clevenger to the Seattle Mariners, Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo has always possessed 30-homer power, but he is an all-or-nothing hitter. This trade does send him to a hitter-friendly home park, so you could do worse if you are searching for power in the final rounds of drafts in season-long leagues.

Mariners | Steve Clevenger acquired by Seattle

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:36:02 -0800

The Seattle Mariners acquired C Steve Clevenger in a trade that sent OF Mark Trumbo to the Baltimore Orioles Tuesday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Clevenger hit .287 in 101 at-bats for Baltimore last year, but the 29-year-old owns a .228 average over 416 at-bats for his career. He offers little in the way of upside, and there is no guarantee he will see regular playing time for Seattle.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo could be dealt to Baltimore

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 17:21:31 -0800

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo could be traded for Baltimore Orioles C Steve Clevenger. Sources for both teams confirmed trade discussions, but one source said that there are still details that need to be worked out.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo has been a boom-or-bust hitter throughout his career, and his 30-homer power is offset but a horrible batting average. Still, he would be worth a flier if you are chasing power late in drafts if he ends up playing his home games in Baltimore's hitter-friendly park.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo receiving plenty of interest

Tue, 01 Dec 2015 10:48:42 -0800

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo is of trade interest to the Baltimore Orioles and Colorado Rockies, according to sources. Trumbo is expected to receive a contract tender before the deadline Wednesday, Dec. 2, and remain on the trade block, if he is not dealt ahead of time.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo has power potential and has hit the 20-homer mark in each of his four full seasons in the league, and he twice topped 30 home runs. The issue lies in his career .250 batting average and .300 on-base percentage. He checks out as an endgame source of pop in drafts next spring.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo on the move?

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 07:56:15 -0800

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo is expected to be shopped this offseason, according to rival executives.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo's numbers didn't suffer much in Safeco Field last season as he hit .264-12-41 at home and .259-10-23 on the road. He would have some upside if he left the spacious confines, though and projects as a third or fourth outfielder in fantasy.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo to move to 1B

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 11:47:23 -0800

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo will move to first base in 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Trumbo did play 23 games at first base in 2015, so it's not like he's foreign to the position. He managed to hit only 13 home runs in Seattle after being traded but still had 22 on the season and should once again be a good bet for 20-plus homers even in pitching-friendly Safeco Field as long as he stays healthy.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 11:18:38 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF/DH Nelson Cruz is not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Chris Bassitt Sunday, Oct. 4. OF Franklin Gutierrez is batting third and serving as the designated hitter, while 1B/OF Mark Trumbo will bat seventh and play right field.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has just one hit in his last 11 at-bats and isn't a recommended FantasyScore option today. Trumbo ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting .273 with a home run and two RBIs over the past week but you can probably find better outfield alternatives for a similar price.

Mariners | Mark Trumbo not playing

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 14:49:14 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Mark Trumbo is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 22. OF Franklin Gutierrez draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting fifth against Kansas City Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie.

Fantasy Tip: Gutierrez ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is a smart value play tonight on FantasyScore with a solid matchup. He is mashing this month, hitting .375 (9-for-24) with five of those hits going for home runs, and he has homered in each of his last four games.

Mariners | Seth Smith playing right field

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 12:52:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Seth Smith will bat sixth and start in right field against Colorado Rockies SP Kyle Kendrick Sunday, Sept. 13. OF Mark Trumbo, who played right field Saturday, Sept. 12, will start in left field and bat fifth Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Smith ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is 10-for-20 with three doubles and a triple versus Kendrick in his career and makes a solid value play in FantasyScore.
