Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy could return soon

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 17:06:20 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) could return to action before the All-Star break, according to manager Dave Roberts.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy allowed one run on three hits over 3 2/3 innings in a rehab start Wednesday, June 22, and he has posted a 4.15 ERA with three walks and eight strikeouts over three rehab starts since returning from Tommy John surgery. The 32-year-old right-hander should be stashed in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues for now, although he may not necessarily be guaranteed a spot in the starting rotation when he returns.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy to throw for OKC

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:42:05 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) is expected to throw four innings during a minor-league rehab outing for Class AAA Oklahoma City Wednesday, June 22.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy is slowly working his way back into game shape and he might return to the big club at some point this summer. However, his fantasy appeal is rather minimal until his situation becomes clearer. Will he return to the rotation or in a long relief role?

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy so-so in rehab outing

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 17:51:38 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) threw three innings in his second rehab start for Class A Rancho Cucamonga Thursday, June 16. He allowed two runs on four hits, with no walks and four strikeouts. McCarthy's next outing will come Wednesday, June 22, giving him an extra day of rest.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy is expected to return to the majors after the All-Star break. The 32-year-old right-hander merits consideration as a starting pitching option in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Dodgers | Julio Urias guaranteed two more starts

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 16:08:39 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Julio Urias will receive two more starts "and we'll see from there," according to manager Dave Roberts. SPs Brandon McCarthy (elbow) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) are on the verge of returning from their rehab assignments.

Fantasy Tip: Urias has shown better in his last two outings and has looked more comfortable, giving up just three earned runs while walking two and striking out 14 in 9 1/3 innings. The 19-year-old lefty has incredible upside but will be limited this year, and he's unlikely to be used out of the bullpen. Don't be surprised to see him sent back to the minors after his next two starts. Ryu is the more intriguing arm to take a flier on and stash in deep mixed and NL-only leagues right now.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy continues to progress

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 19:55:14 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) worked two innings for Class A Rancho Cucamonga Saturday, June 11. Manager Dave Roberts said Monday, June 13, that the session went well. "McCarthy came out feeling well," Roberts said. McCarthy is on a five-day cycle and expected to pitch again Thursday, June 16.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when McCarthy will be able to return, and if he does make it back to the big club this season, in what capacity he will be able to assist the team. For now, avoid grabbing him in most fantasy leagues, but remember him later in the summer if he continues to progress.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy rehab update

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 07:08:42 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) allowed a solo home run and a walk in a two-inning rehab start for Class A Rancho Cucamonga Sunday, June 12. It was his first rehab appearance since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April 2015.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy will need four to five rehab starts under his belt before he is activated from the disabled list, meaning he is expected to return to the majors after the All-Star break. The 32-year-old right-hander's progress is worth monitoring by owners in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Wed, 08 Jun 2016 17:01:54 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) will begin his rehab assignment Saturday, June 11, for Class A Rancho Cucamonga.

Fantasy Tip: The 32-year-old might be out of his prime, but he'll have potential to be a consistent contributor to fantasy teams in deeper leagues. As a result, owners should be monitoring his progress. McCarthy has not pitched in a major league game since the beginning of last season.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy set for rehab

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 16:42:15 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) will be heading out on a rehab assignment within a week.

Fantasy Tip: The team could certainly use him as soon as possible, given the many injuries to their starting rotation. In any event, this is promising news for the veteran right-hander, who has not pitched in a big league game since very early on last season. Although his best days are behind him, McCarthy still has the potential to be useful in deep fantasy leagues, so he'll be worth monitoring.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy to throw sim game

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 08:01:56 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) will throw a three-inning simulated game over the next few days. He is expected to throw approximately 60 pitches.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy is not ready to begin a rehab assignment yet and it appears unlikely that he will return to action before the All-Star break. The 32-year-old righty is recovering from Tommy John surgery and remains worthy of monitoring in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.

Dodgers | Brandon McCarthy shut down

Sun, 22 May 2016 08:15:11 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers SP Brandon McCarthy (elbow) has been shut down after experiencing discomfort following a recent live batting practice session. Despite the setback, he is still estimated to return to action in early July. McCarthy will need to throw in several simulated-game situations before being cleared to begin a rehab assignment.

Fantasy Tip: McCarthy is recovering from Tommy John surgery and should be monitored by owners in NL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues. The 32-year-old right-hander went 3-0 with a 5.87 ERA in four starts last season, with 29 strikeouts in just 23 innings.
