Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (quadriceps) is not in the team's starting lineup Wednesday, April 9.
Fantasy Tip: Beltre's injury could require a DL stint. He'll undergo an MRI exam Wednesday, so check back to see what the results are. Joshua Wilson is at third base today, and Donnie Murphy can also fill in there if Beltre requires an extended absence. Both options are only valuable in AL-only leagues.

Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (quadriceps) is leaving the game early Tuesday, April 8, with left quadriceps tightness.
Fantasy Tip: This isn't good news for Beltre, who has a history of lower leg injuries. The Rangers are probably being cautious, but this is something to keep an eye on. If he's forced to miss some time, Donnie Murphy is likely the first candidate to replace Beltre at third.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said he plans to give both 2Bs Donnie Murphy and Joshua Wilson consistent playing time. Murphy started at second base for the second straight game Monday, April 7. Washington said Wilson will start both Tuesday, April 8, and Wednesday, April 9.
Fantasy Tip: A platoon situation at second base makes both Murphy and Wilson AL-only commodities.

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said Saturday, March 29, that he has not yet decided his second base and designated hitter spots for opening day. The Texas Rangers will send 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff to Triple-A Round Rock, as the club elected to keep left-handed hitting OF Jim Adduci over the veteran. "I have no reason why Kouzmanoff didn't make this team, he did everything he could," manager Ron Washington said Saturday, March 29. "But when you look at the roster, we had to try to give ourselves some flexibility." Kouzmanoff hit .385 in 52 Cactus League spring at-bats with 12 RBI, but the roster is crowded with INFs Donnie Murphy and Joshua Wilson already on the roster. Kouzmanoff has no opt outs in his contract, and will begin in the minors.

Updating a previous report, Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Wednesday, March 26, that 3B Donnie Murphy, claimed off waivers, is likely to be on the opening day roster, although the team is still evaluating its second base and utility situations. Infielders Adam Rosales, Kensuke Tanaka and Joshua Wilson are still in camp.

The Texas Rangers claimed 3B Donnie Murphy off waivers from the Chicago Cubs Wednesday, March 26.
Fantasy Tip: Murphy could be a candidate to log time at the keystone with Jurickson Profar (shoulder) out for an extended amount of time. Murphy is unlikely to be of much fantasy value, unless you're in an AL-only league.

The Chicago Cubs are expecting to get plenty of production from SP Jake Arrieta and 3B Mike Olt after trading for them last year. Manager Rick Renteria said the initial plan at third base is to have 3Bs Luis Valbuena and Donnie Murphy compete for playing time, but the Cubs are hoping to see Olt bounce back from a rough year with the Texas Rangers in 2013. Arrieta said he benefitted from working with pitching coach Chris Bosio for the final seven weeks of the season. The team didn't notice any vision problems from Olt when he was hitting off a tee during the team's developmental program last week.
