Baltimore Orioles OF David Lough will not face left-handed pitchers this spring for now, with OF Nelson Cruz playing left field against southpaws. "We need to use Nelson's skills to make everybody better," manager Buck Showalter said. "It's possible, right now going in, I don't plan yet on using (Lough) against left-handed pitching. So, you'd have a DH spot for a right-handed hitter. He could evolve into that too, a guy we trust against left-handed pitching. It's also a way to keep everybody involved, too."

Baltimore Orioles OF Nelson Cruz is expected to be the team's primary designated hitter this season. He hit .266 with 27 home runs and 76 RBIs in 109 games last season with the Texas Rangers before serving a 50-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal.
Fantasy Tip: The ability to serve as a full-time DH should help Cruz stay healthy for the majority of the season. It could also take valuable at-bats away from Nolan Reimold if he's not playing every day in the outfield.

Washington is also expected to use the DH spot to rotate some veterans like 1B Prince Fielder, OF Shin-Soo Choo, 3B Adrian Beltre and OF Alex Rios for partial rest.

The Baltimore Orioles agreed to terms with OF Nelson Cruz (Rangers) on a one-year, $8 million contract with $750,000 in incentives.
Fantasy Tip: Cruz shifts to another hitter-friendly ballpark and could produce similar power numbers if he's healthy. The O's have a pretty solid lineup, and Cruz should slot in somewhere in the middle. He's a solid No. 2 or No. 3 outfielder in fantasy.

Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Wednesday, Feb. 19, that the team remains open to re-signing free-agent OF Nelson Cruz (Rangers), if the price was right. "We've touched base every week or so," Daniels said. "Nellie's highly regarded here. We have a good relationship with (his agent). We made our moves (for 1B Prince Fielder and OF Shin-Soo Choo) and kind of expected (Cruz) to sign elsewhere. But we'll see where it goes. It's a unique situation for him as a free agent."
