Mariners | Seattle crushing lefties

Wed, 18 May 2016 15:10:07 -0700

The Seattle Mariners lead the majors in home runs (21) against left-handed pitchers this year, with the Tampa Bay Rays (18) ranked second. OF Nelson Cruz is tied with four other players with five home runs against lefties, and he leads all players with 19 home runs against southpaws since the start of 2015. 3B Kyle Seager is second with 17 homers against lefties since the start of 2015, and he has four this year.

Fantasy Tip: This just shows you that starting a lefty pitcher against Seattle is risky business if they are a midrange starter. Cruz is a must-start in all formats, but he's worth paying up for in DFS against southpaws. Seager, a left-handed hitter, should never be benched against lefties.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz excels in Baltimore

Tue, 17 May 2016 09:54:55 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz has reached base safely in 21 straight games at Camden Yards, the home of the Baltimore Orioles, since August of 2014. During that streak he's 29-for-79 with eight doubles and four home runs.

Fantasy Tip: You aren't benching Cruz in traditional leagues, but you'll want to put him into your daily lineups this week against the O's. He's hitless against O's Tuesday starter Ubaldo Jimenez in 12 at-bats, but that shouldn't be a reason for keeping him out of lineups.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz launches sixth HR

Wed, 11 May 2016 18:00:09 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz went 1-for-3 Wednesday, May 11, against the Tampa Bay Rays. He delivered his sixth home run of the season to go with two runs, two RBI and he also drew a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is off his usual 40-homer pace, so hopefully today's dinger maybe gets him going towards producing his usual output, as his monstrous power is the main reason he was selected early in drafts. With a fine .270/.366/.475 slash line, he's still in a position to do just that.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz back in lineup

Mon, 09 May 2016 15:40:18 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz (forearm) is back in the starting lineup Monday, May 9. He's serving as the designated hitter and batting in his usual cleanup spot opposite Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz was out Sunday with a bruised forearm, but it looks like he's already healthy enough to return to the lineup. With only five home runs thus far in 2016, the 35-year-old slugger is due to get going at some point. He could very well knock one out this evening, as four of his homers have come off left-handed pitching -- in just 38 at-bats.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz, Chris Iannetta not starting

Sun, 08 May 2016 10:42:09 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz and C Chris Iannetta are not in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh Sunday, May 8. 1B Dae-ho Lee will serve as the designated hitter and is batting seventh, while C Steve Clevenger will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Lee has gone 2-for-8 with two home runs and three RBI over the last two games and could be a sleeper option in daily fantasy leagues. Clevenger is hitting only .200 and probably can be avoided in most leagues.

Mariners | Nelson Cruz goes yard vs. A's

Wed, 04 May 2016 16:30:47 -0700

Seattle Mariners OF Nelson Cruz went 3-for-4 with his fifth home run of the season Wednesday, May 4, against the Oakland Athletics. He finished with a run scored, two RBI and a walk.

Fantasy Tip: Cruz is starting to heat up, as he's now collected seven hits over his last three ballgames. Hopefully the home run gets him going in that department as well, as it currently doesn't look like he'll reach the 40-homer plateau for the third consecutive season. Even so, he's still one of the best power-hitting outfielders to possess in fantasy.

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 05:18:17 -0700

Fantasy Tip: Cruz continues his solid play at the plate and has at least one hit in six of his last seven games as well as five RBI in his last two games. Cruz should be a starting candidate in all leagues moving forward.
