Yankees | Brian McCann battling knee woes

Fri, 01 Jul 2016 08:02:21 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann (knee) said he has battled tendonitis in his left knee off and on for a while, but it flared up Wednesday, June 29.

Fantasy Tip: Mark DeRosa had a great breakdown of McCann's swing on MLB Network. He demonstrated how McCann was flailing his hips open, with his backside out, and he was pulling off of pitches during his slump. The knee injury could be a reason why. Regardless, McCann hit two homers Wednesday and remains a high-end catcher in fantasy.

Yankees | Brian McCann homers twice Wednesday

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 19:55:15 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann went 2-for-3 with two home runs, four RBI, three runs scored and two walks versus the Texas Rangers Wednesday, June 29.

Fantasy Tip: McCann was batting just .207 through 58 at-bats during the month of June entering play Wednesday, so perhaps this is the start of him beginning to break out of a slump. Despite his power, he should be viewed as a mediocre catching option in seasonal fantasy leagues and a hit-or-miss option for DFS.

Yankees | Brian McCann not starting Tuesday

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 13:21:25 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann is not in the lineup Tuesday, June 28, against the Texas Rangers. McCann is replaced by C Austin Romine, who will bat ninth against Rangers SP Cole Hamels.

Fantasy Tip: McCann, a lefty, is sitting on the bench because Hamels is a lefty as well. Sit McCann on your bench if you can. As for Romine, he is worth a start in daily leagues because of his five hits, two doubles, and seven runs batted in over the last seven games.

Yankees | Brian McCann out against Minny

Fri, 24 Jun 2016 13:33:44 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann is not in the starting lineup Friday, June 24. C Austin Romine is starting behind the plate and batting ninth against SP Tommy Milone Friday.

Fantasy Tip: McCann remains a middling starting option behind the plate in the majority of seasonal leagues with a mediocre 29 runs, 10 home runs, 29 RBI and .220/.323/.414 slash line. Romine's lack of playing time limits him to being a low-end option in cavernous mixed, two-catcher and AL-only leagues, as his .272/.286/.432 slash line through 85 plate appearances isn't too bad for a backup backstop.

Yankees | Two bombs for Brian McCann

Sun, 19 Jun 2016 16:32:18 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann went 3-for-4 with two solo home runs in a 7-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins Sunday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: McCann is on pace for more than 20 homers, but he is hitting just .219. He has enough power for his position to start in mixed leagues, but he is an all-or-nothing DFS play.

Yankees | Brett Gardner, Brian McCann out Friday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 14:12:36 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner and C Brian McCann are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins left-handed SP Pat Dean Friday, June 17. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in left field and hitting ninth, while C Austin Romine is doing the catching and batting eighth. Also, 2B Rob Refsnyder is at first base and is hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: All three are low-end daily options that don't have much appeal, but Refsnyder is the most attractive as a deep sleeper because of his position high in the batting order.

Yankees | Brian McCann takes a seat

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 10:07:55 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, June 15. C Austin Romine is doing the catching and is batting eighth against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis.

Fantasy Tip: It's likely just a normal day of rest for a day game following a night game for McCann. Romine is batting .288 with two homers and 11 RBI in 73 at-bats, but he remains a low-end desperation pick with a little more upside today at Coors Field.

Yankees | Brian McCann, Alex Rodriguez out

Sun, 12 Jun 2016 08:33:29 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann and DH Alex Rodriguez are not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Michael Fulmer Sunday, June 12. OF Carlos Beltran is batting third and serving as the designated hitter, C Austin Romine will start behind the plate and bat seventh and OF Aaron Hicks will play right field and hit eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Romine has not been known for his offense historically but he has two homers and 11 RBI in 69 at-bats this year, to go with a .290 average, so he could be viewed as a productive source of cap relief in DFS. Hicks is batting just .203 over 118 at-bats and is not a great fantasy option today.

Yankees | Brian McCann not starting Tuesday

Tue, 07 Jun 2016 13:20:32 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann is out of the lineup Tuesday, June 7, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. C Austin Romine will bat seventh against Angels SP David Huff.

Fantasy Tip: Although McCann is just back from injury, he sits after two games because the Yankees face a left-handed pitcher. Romine is worth consideration in DFS formats with hits in six of his last eight games.

Yankees | Brian McCann will play Sunday

Sun, 05 Jun 2016 09:20:41 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann (elbow) is in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman Sunday, June 5, and is batting fifth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: McCann was on the bench for the last few games because of an elbow injury. He has only two hits in his last nine games, so owners may want to avoid him until he is more productive at the plate.
