The Boston Red Sox optioned C Luis Exposito, P Junichi Tazawa and SP Clayton Mortensen to Triple-A Pawtucket. They also reassigned OF Alex Hassan, C Max St. Pierre, P Brandon Duckworth and RP Jesse Carlson to minor league camp.

Boston Red Sox SP Alfredo Aceves and RP Daniel Bard are expected to face the Minnesota Twins in a 'B' game Thursday, March 1. Aceves, Bard and Ps Jesse Carlson, Will Inman, Clayton Mortensen, Tony Pena Jr., Justin Thomas and Alex Wilson are all expected to work one inning, according to manager Bobby Valentine.

The Toronto Blue Jays plan to go with seven relievers, and RPs Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch, Octavio Dotel, Jason Frasor and Shawn Camp have five of the spots, Rogers Sportsnet's Scott Carson reports. RPs David Purcey, Jesse Carlson, Brad Mills, Jo-Jo Reyes, Carlos Villanueva and Casey Janssen will battle for the final two spots. SP Marc Rzepczynski will also be in the mix if he doesn't win a rotation spot.

The Toronto Blue Jays have temporarily shut down RP Jesse Carlson (shoulder) due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder, reports Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com. "We're going to back him out for a couple of days," said skipper John Farrell. "He has some inflammation and some irritation in the shoulder. We'll have more on his exam after it's over and completed."
