Angels | Carlos Perez sitting out

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 11:50:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez is not in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley Sunday, April 24. C Geovany Soto will start at catcher and is batting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Soto has played well in his limited playing time this season and has a .316 batting average with three RBI. Soto could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues.

Angels | Geovany Soto hurts former team

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 23:29:32 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Geovany Soto had a pair of hits and an RBI Monday, April 18, against the Chicago White Sox to push his average to .375.

Fantasy Tip: Soto had hit safely in four straight outings, and he has a run scored in four of the past five games. He is still only worth using as a No. 2 fantasy option in AL-only leagues, but keep him in mind in DFS when he gets a start.

Angels | Carlos Perez, Johnny Giavotella out

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 09:03:19 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez and 2B Johnny Giavotella are not in the starting lineup against Minnesota Twins SP Ricky Nolasco Saturday, April 16. C Geovany Soto will start at catcher and is batting eighth, while SS Cliff Pennington will start at second base and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Soto and Pennington have received limited playing time over the first two weeks of the season. Soto could be a sleeper option for owners in daily fantasy leagues, but owners in most leagues likely will be able to find better options for both positions.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Carlos Perez is not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers SP Martin Perez Sunday, April 10. C Geovany Soto will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Soto went hitless in his only other start of the season and is not a great fantasy option for owners in most leagues.

Angels | Geovany Soto having arm issues

Wed, 16 Mar 2016 12:06:47 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim C Geovany Soto (arm) is having issues with a sore arm in spring training. Manager Mike Scioscia said Soto shouldn't be out more than a couple of days.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have hurt Soto's outlook the last several years, but he makes for a nice second fantasy catcher with some pop.

Angels | Geovany Soto, Carlos Perez to compete

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 12:29:30 -0800

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Cs Geovany Soto and Carlos Perez will compete for the starting catching job. The Angels would like to see the younger Perez take the next step and win the job, but Soto will see valuable playing time regardless.

Fantasy Tip: Perez is younger and has more offensive upside, so he should be the front-runner for more playing time. Neither catcher is very attractive outside of two-catcher or AL-only formats, though.

Angels | Geovany Soto signs with Angels

Tue, 24 Nov 2015 16:39:00 -0800

Free-agent C Geovany Soto (White Sox) agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Tuesday, Nov. 24. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Soto was more or less a backup catcher in Chicago last year when he hit just .219 (41-for-187) with nine home runs and 21 RBI. He'll probably fill a similar role with the Halos behind Carlos Perez next year. The move to a more pitcher-friendly environment does nothing to boost Soto's already weak fantasy value. He's nothing more than a desperation second catcher in the deepest of formats.

White Sox | Adam LaRoche, Tyler Flowers out

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 14:31:59 -0700

Chicago White Sox 1B Adam LaRoche and C Tyler Flowers are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 29. OF Trayce Thompson is starting in left field and hitting cleanup against Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto, while C Geovany Soto is doing the catching and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: The rookie Thompson ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has intriguing upside but is batting only .214 (15-for-70) with three home runs and nine RBI in September. He's a sleeper pick this evening against Cueto if you're feeling lucky. Soto ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is hitting .222 (41-for-185) on the year and is even more of a gamble in daily leagues.

White Sox | Tyler Flowers on the bench

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 09:16:00 -0700

Chicago White Sox C Tyler Flowers is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 23. C Geovany Soto is starting and hitting ninth against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander.

Fantasy Tip: Soto ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is a backup catcher to avoid on FantasyScore on a day with a full slate of games. Soto is also facing a pitcher in Verlander that has really looked good of late now that he is fully healthy.
