Yankees | Carlos Beltran on the bench

Mon, 25 May 2015 09:00:15 -0700

New York Yankees OF Carlos Beltran is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 25. OF Garrett Jones will be the starting right fielder for the Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Beltran ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) is receiving his second day off but should return soon. Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has picked up four hits and three RBI in his last three games. Owners on FantasyScore could consider using Jones but may want to spend a little extra money for a better option.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira sitting out Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 13:22:41 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 12. 1B Garrett Jones is starting at first base and hitting eighth in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) hasn't been able to get anything going in limited at-bats off the bench this year (.152/.176/.242), and he's a weak play at FantasyScore tonight against Archer, who has developed into one of the best pitchers in the game this season.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira sitting Monday

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:12:47 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 4. 1B Garrett Jones is starting at first base and hitting seventh in the batting order against Toronto Blue Jays SP R.A. Dickey.

Fantasy Tip: Although Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has struggled in limited duty this year (.167-0-0), he does hit right-handers much better and is 6-for-16 (.375) with an RBI in his career against Dickey. Consider Jones an acceptable under-the-radar value play at FantasyScore this evening.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez sitting vs. Boston

Fri, 01 May 2015 12:50:33 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup against the Boston Red Sox Friday, May 1. 1B Garrett Jones is hitting seventh as the designated hitter Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Rodriguez ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. He is rewarding those who took a speculative leap of faith with him this season, though. He has 13 runs, five home runs and 13 RBI, although his batting average is just .232. Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is off to a miserable start and just 5-for-27 at the dish. Consider him a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests, but you should aim higher at first base.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez not playing Tuesday

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 12:40:37 -0700

New York Yankees DH Alex Rodriguez is out of the lineup Tuesday, April 28, against the Tampa Bay Rays. 1B Garrett Jones is the DH.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) is likely sitting because the Rays have a right-handed pitcher (Jake Odorizzi) in the lineup. The timing is a little weird because he is close to his 660th home run, but it's conventional baseball logic. Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) isn't a bad replacement for one night.

Yankees | Mark Teixeira out Thursday

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 09:31:41 -0700

New York Yankees 1B Mark Teixeira is out of the lineup Thursday, April 23, against the Detroit Tigers. 1B Garrett Jones is in at first.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of your cap) could eventually have spot-start appeal on FantasyScore, but not right now.

Yankees | Garrett Jones in the lineup

Sun, 19 Apr 2015 08:43:09 -0700

New York Yankees OF Garrett Jones will be the starting right fielder against the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) is off to a slow start in 2015 with only two hits in 14 at-bats this season. Owners on FantasyScore likely will be able to find better options to use.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez out Tuesday

Tue, 14 Apr 2015 12:51:42 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Miguel Gonzalez Tuesday, April 14. 1B Garrett Jones is serving as the designated hitter and is hitting sixth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Jones ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) should be considered at FantasyScore as a low-priced option facing a right-handed pitcher. However, the wet weather in Baltimore may persuade you to look elsewhere Tuesday.

Yankees | No 1B for Alex Rodriguez now?

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 18:57:16 -0700

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez appears to be staying at third base this week in spring training. Manager Joe Girardi said he thought he would play Rodriguez at first base in spring training games this week, but indicated Tuesday, March 17, that might not happen "I'm not sure that I'll do it. We have (1B/OF Garrett Jones," Girardi said.

Fantasy Tip: It would be interesting to see A-Rod play a new position, and fantasy owners in standard formats wouldn't mind if he were able to squeeze in five regular season games for some new eligibility.

Yankees | Alex Rodriguez could platoon in DH role

Fri, 20 Feb 2015 14:05:51 -0800

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez could be stuck in a platoon at designated hitter this year with OF Garrett Jones facing right-handers and Rodriguez facing lefties. Historically, Rodriguez has been successful against lefties after struggling (.585 OPS in 50 at-bats) against them in 2013. In a best-case scenario, Rodriguez could serve as the backup to 3B Chase Headley, and he might also see some time at first base as a backup for 1B Mark Teixeira.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is a giant question mark entering the 2015 season after sitting out all of last year on a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. At age 39, he's not the same player he was in his prime, obviously, and he'll struggle to catch up to fastballs. However, he could provide some pop at the tail end of mixed league drafts to round out your rosters.
