New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez appears to be staying at third base this week in spring training. Manager Joe Girardi said he thought he would play Rodriguez at first base in spring training games this week, but indicated Tuesday, March 17, that might not happen "I'm not sure that I'll do it. We have (1B/OF Garrett Jones," Girardi said.
Fantasy Tip: It would be interesting to see A-Rod play a new position, and fantasy owners in standard formats wouldn't mind if he were able to squeeze in five regular season games for some new eligibility.

New York Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez could be stuck in a platoon at designated hitter this year with OF Garrett Jones facing right-handers and Rodriguez facing lefties. Historically, Rodriguez has been successful against lefties after struggling (.585 OPS in 50 at-bats) against them in 2013. In a best-case scenario, Rodriguez could serve as the backup to 3B Chase Headley, and he might also see some time at first base as a backup for 1B Mark Teixeira.
Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez is a giant question mark entering the 2015 season after sitting out all of last year on a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. At age 39, he's not the same player he was in his prime, obviously, and he'll struggle to catch up to fastballs. However, he could provide some pop at the tail end of mixed league drafts to round out your rosters.

Miami Marlins 1B Garrett Jones and 3B Jeff Baker could split time at first base at some point this season because Jones struggles against left-handed pitchers, but manager Mike Redmond said Jones will start the season as the everyday first baseman.

The Miami Marlins continue to have interest in free-agent 3B Juan Uribe (Dodgers), according to a league source. If the Marlins sign him, he would be expected to serve as the primary third baseman and could see additional time at first base when 1B Garrett Jones is out of the lineup against tough left-handed pitchers. Uribe is believed to be seeking a two or three-year deal.

The Miami Marlins traded 1B Logan Morrison to the Seattle Mariners Wednesday, Dec. 11, in exchange for RP Carter Capps.
Fantasy Tip: Capps has the skills to pitch in the ninth but will fall into a setup role to Steve Cishek. Garrett Jones will take over full time at first base for Morrison. Moving to a pitcher-friendly environment lowers Jones' power impact, which has been his main contributing factor to fantasy owners.
