Indians | CLE had interest in Austin Jackson

Fri, 18 Dec 2015 18:19:22 -0800

The Cleveland Indians had interest in free-agent OF Austin Jackson (Cubs) but ultimately decided to sign OF Rajai Davis in order to save money.

Fantasy Tip: Jackson, who will turn 29 in February, hit .267 with nine home runs, 48 RBIs and 17 steals in 136 regular-season games last season with the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs. He should be available in the middle rounds of drafts for single-universe leagues and the later rounds for mixed leagues.

Indians | Rajai Davis to play LF, CF

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 11:06:19 -0800

Cleveland Indians OF Rajai Davis will fill in in left field to start the year with OF Michael Brantley (shoulder) injured, and Davis could also play some center field, according to general manager Chris Antonetti.

Fantasy Tip: More playing time in Cleveland could help Davis return to the 20-stolen base mark after he failed to do so in 2015. If he secures everyday playing time, Davis will be attractive in the later rounds as an undervalued source of runs and thefts.

Indians | Rajai Davis signs with Cleveland

Wed, 16 Dec 2015 14:53:42 -0800

Free-agent OF Rajai Davis (Tigers) agreed to a one-year contract with the Cleveland Indians, pending a physical, Wednesday, Dec. 16. The deal is believed to be worth $5.25 million with incentives.

Fantasy Tip: 2015 was the first time in eight seasons Davis failed to steal 20 bases, and if he isn't swiping bags, there is limited fantasy appeal to the veteran outfielder. However, a full-time role is within reach for Davis with Cleveland, and he could top 500 at-bats for the first time since 2010. Stay tuned for updates on the projected role for Davis, but he has late-round upside, especially in the runs and stolen base categories.

Rangers | Texas interested in Rajai Davis

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 21:05:52 -0800

The Texas Rangers are interested in free-agent OF Rajai Davis (Tigers), and they're one of several teams talking to the outfielder, sources said Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Davis isn't much as far as batting average is concerned, as he is a career .269 hitter, and he doesn't have much power, either. However, he has 322 stolen bases in 1,067 career games, and he has a .306 or better OBP over the past four seasons. He gets things started at the top of a lineup, and will help in the steals and runs scored categories for fantasy owners.

Tigers | Rajai Davis leading off vs. Twins

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 07:15:14 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Rajai Davis is batting leadoff against Minnesota Twins SP Ervin Santana Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) owns a .267/.314/.429 slash line against right-handed pitchers this season, and he checks out as a potential value play hitting in front of the best hitters in the lineup. Still, Santana ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) has been excellent of late with just six runs allowed over his past five outings, so Davis is far from a lineup lock.

Tigers | Anthony Gose not playing in nightcap

Mon, 21 Sep 2015 13:41:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Anthony Gose is not in the lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader against Chicago White Sox SP Erik Johnson Monday, Sept. 21. OF Rajai Davis draws the start in center field and is hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is mainly valuable for his speed on FantasyScore, but he's hitting .256 (45-for-176) with 10 stolen bases and three home runs against right-handers this year, so there's not a ton of daily upside.

Tigers | Rajai Davis sitting vs. Indians

Fri, 11 Sep 2015 12:53:41 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Rajai Davis is not in the starting lineup Friday Sept. 11. OF Steven Moya is starting in left field and batting seventh against Cleveland Indians SP Cody Anderson Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Friday. The veteran has just 18 stolen bases and is having arguably a career-worst season. Moya ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) only has one plate appearance this season, but he hit 20 homer runs with a .240 batting average for Class AAA Toledo this season. He projects as a risky low-priced flier for FantasyScore players Friday.

Tigers | Rajai Davis climbs up the lineup

Thu, 10 Sep 2015 14:50:54 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Rajai Davis is batting first and OF Anthony Gose is batting ninth against Cleveland Indians SP Danny Salazar Thursday, Sept. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) receives a nice fantasy boost setting the table for the Tigers. He is traditionally a better hitter against southpaws, though, and Salazar ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) is far from a cushy matchup. View both Gose ($3,800, 7.6% of cap) and Davis as fliers for FantasyScore contests Thursday, with Davis owning a higher ceiling.

Tigers | Rajai Davis hitting ninth

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 13:42:20 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Rajai Davis is hitting ninth and starting in left field against Tampa Bay Rays SP Erasmo Ramirez Tuesday, Sept. 8. OF Tyler Collins is out of the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap), who is hitting .244 (70-for-287) with six home runs and 22 RBI on the year, is usually only an acceptable sleeper click on FantasyScore when he's hitting atop the batting order. His daily upside is limited tonight.

Tigers | Rajai Davis homers twice

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 14:01:06 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Rajai Davis went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI against the Tampa Bay Rays Monday, Sept. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Davis ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) should continue to split time with Anthony Gose for the rest of the season. Davis is hitting .244 this season and may not be a consistent starting option on FantasyScore.
