Tigers | Andy Dirks' back surgery successful

Mon, 10 Mar 2014 16:59:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Andy Dirks (back) underwent a microdiscectomy Monday, March 10, in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the procedure was seemed successful. He's not allowed to do any physical activity besides walk for three weeks and is expected to be sidelined for a total of 12 weeks.

Fantasy Tip: The positive for hopeful AL-only owners of Dirks is that no complications were discovered or arose, if that had been possible. Rajai Davis is expected to benefit most from Dirks' absence primarily because the speedy outfielder is the only fantasy-relevant player who could.

Tigers | Brad Ausmus explains Andy Dirks' injury

Wed, 05 Mar 2014 08:34:12 -0800

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus had the same injury as OF Andy Dirks (back) a few years ago when he was still playing. "My understanding is a piece of the disc tore away from the whole of the disc," Ausmus said. "They're just going to go in and remove that piece and clean up the area on the disc where it had come off." Dirks has apparently dealt with back issues for some time. OF Rajai Davis may now turn into more of an everyday player, according to Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Davis should be bumped up draft boards. His legs make him a real stolen-base asset, and with more playing time, the returns could be significant. Dirks will likely play again this year, but the extent of his injury could make him a non-factor.

Tigers | Andy Dirks out 12 weeks

Tue, 04 Mar 2014 13:13:40 -0800

Detroit Tigers OF Andy Dirks (back) will undergo surgery on his back and miss 12 weeks.

Fantasy Tip: Dirks was in line for platoon duty with Rajai Davis in left field this year. That could now fall to Don Kelly, at least in the interim. Davis looks more intriguing now since it's unclear if Kelly would be a straight up platoon partner. Depending on the nature of Dirks' surgery, this could put a damper on his entire season.

Tigers | Intend to run more

Mon, 17 Feb 2014 13:09:39 -0800

The Detroit Tigers plan to be much more aggressive on the base paths this year after adding 2B Ian Kinsler and OF Rajai Davis. "We wanted more speed, but if you look at last year's team, we had very few places where we could just add speed to the order," general manager Dave Dombrowski said. We had to find a way and the Prince trade set everything into motion. We'll be faster this year."

Tigers | Matt Kemp deal unlikely

Tue, 10 Dec 2013 20:25:43 -0800

Updating a previous report, FOXSports.com's Jon Paul Morosi feels a possible trade from the Los Angeles Dodgers to Detroit Tigers for OF Matt Kemp is complicated and unlikely. The Tigers signed OF Rajai Davis, and they would need to move OF Austin Jackson to make sense.
