Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (thumb) will undergo surgery on his left thumb to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament Tuesday, April 29, and he's expected to be sidelined until at least early July, according to multiple sources.
Fantasy Tip: The Nationals' worst fears have been realized. It's the same exact injury that caused Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim outfielder Josh Hamilton to undergo surgery. In Harper's absence, Nate McLouth will be given the first shot at extended playing time in left field. However, he's been slow out of the gates, and Steven Souza could easily take the lead if he continues to stay hot. A mild deep mixed league bid on McLouth seems appropriate. Souza is a decent speculative add in NL-only leagues.

Washington Nationals OF Bryce Harper (thumb) was placed on the disabled list with a left thumb sprain. In a corresponding move, the team recalled Steven Souza from Triple-A Syracuse.
Fantasy Tip: With Harper out, the team will likely turn to a combination of Kevin Frandsen and Nate McLouth in left field, depending on the pitching matchups, but Tyler Moore could also factor in. Frandsen and McLouth are options for NL-only managers in the short term. The good news for Harper is that he may have avoided a serious injury, but keep tabs on his status. He's going for a second opinion. Souza, who has been hot down on the farm, could also be in consideration.
