Updating a previous post, Chicago Cubs SPs Travis Wood and Edwin Jackson will start the second and third games of the regular season, respectively, with SP Jeff Samardzija getting the nod for Opening Day against the Pittsburgh Pirates March 31. SP Jason Hammel is expected to start the home opener against the Philadelphia Phillies April 4.

Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta (shoulder) will be behind the other pitchers in camp due to some tightness in his right shoulder. He was projected to be the team's fourth starter, but he had some pain while throwing this winter. "We've re-started his throwing program but he'll be a little bit late into camp as far as throwing bullpens and getting into games," general manager Jed Hoyer said. "No timetables yet but he is throwing and feeling good now. That was something in the back of our minds as we went through this and added some pitching depth." SPs Jason Hammel or James McDonald could fill a rotation spot if Arrieta isn't ready.
