Cubs | Jason Hammel tagged with loss

Sun, 26 Jun 2016 15:05:55 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel allowed two runs in six innings and dropped to 7-4 overall as the team lost his fourth start in a row Sunday, June 26. The Miami Marlins won, 6-1.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel has had a decent season, but he has lost some fantasy value as of late because of the Cubs' struggles. Don't panic and remove him from your lineup in long-term leagues, but in daily leagues you may want to look at other pitchers as long as the losing streak continues.

Cubs | STL finally gets to Jason Hammel

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 21:34:43 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel surrendered four runs - including a pair of homers - on six hits over 5 2/3 innings in a no decision against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, June 21.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel entered the night 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA over 13 1/3 innings this season against the Cardinals, but a pair of home runs by Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday did him in. The 33-year-old right-hander is winless in his last three trips to the mound, although he isn't exactly getting beat around either (3.93 ERA). Owners should stick with him through this rough patch; he should have a good shot at picking up his eighth victory Sunday on the road against the Miami Marlins.

Cardinals | Matt Holliday connects on 13th home run

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 20:42:45 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals OF Matt Holliday homered for the fourth time in his last nine games on Tuesday, June 21, blasting a two-run home run off Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Although Holliday isn't carrying the same average he used to, he has 13 homers - more than triple his home run output from his injury-plagued the 2015 campaign (four). The 36-year-old has knocked in 40 runs as well, making his .253 average a bit more palatable. Holliday does his best work against right-handers (.268, eight home runs and 24 RBI entering Tuesday's action), so he is worth using in daily leagues when that is the case.

Cubs | Jason Hammel hurls quality start

Wed, 15 Jun 2016 18:51:16 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel allowed one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings in a no-decision versus the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 15, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel entered play with a 9-0 lifetime record against the Nats, so his solid outing Wednesday should have surprised no one. His next appearance will come against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday, June 21.

Cubs | Jason Hammel tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 10 Jun 2016 19:30:16 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (7-2) allowed three runs on eight hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the Atlanta Braves Friday, June 10, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This was just the third time in 12 starts this season where Hammel had allowed more than two runs in a game. His next scheduled start will come against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, June 15, and he should be viewed as a viable pitching option in all formats.

Cubs | Jason Hammel baffles Diamondbacks

Sat, 04 Jun 2016 15:02:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel did a bit of everything in a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, June 04, allowing two runs on one hit and a pair of walks while striking out six in seven frames. Hammel even supported his own cause with a tiebreaking, two-run single in the fourth inning.

Fantasy Tip: Including his outing Monday in which he was pulled after two innings with leg cramps, Hammel has yielded a total of six hits and struck out 13 over 16 1/3 innings across his last three starts. Expect similar domination when he faces the offensively challenged Atlanta Braves next weekend.

Cubs | Jason Hammel to start Saturday

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 11:18:08 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hamstring) said he will be fine to start against the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday, June 4, after he left his last start early with cramping in his hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel has been very good for the Cubs this year with a 2.09 ERA in 10 starts. He also has a respectable 1.16 WHIP and 8.0 K/9. Despite his short start last time out, he should continue to be used in lineups with confidence against the D-backs.

Cubs | Jason Hammel on track for Saturday

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 22:56:10 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hamstring) threw a side session Wednesday, June 1, and he remains on track to make his next scheduled start Saturday, June 4, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to trust Hammel in seasonal fantasy leagues and DFS. He allowed just one run and four hits with six strikeouts over six innings in a win April 8 at Arizona in his first outing of the season.

Cubs | Jason Hammel throws in outfield

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 13:36:32 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hamstring) threw in the outfield Wednesday, June 1, and appeared to be past the hamstring cramping that cut his start short Monday, May 30.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel has been an excellent contributor thus far with six wins, a 2.09 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP with 50 punchouts through 56 innings. Stay tuned to make sure he takes the hill for his next start, but it appears like he will, and Hammel should be viewed as a matchup-proof hurler until he proves otherwise, too.

Cubs | Jason Hammel expected to be fine

Tue, 31 May 2016 07:36:18 -0700

Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel (hamstring) is expected to be able to make his next start after leaving early with a hamstring cramp against the Los Angeles Dodgers Monday, May 30. However, the Cubs are 21 games over .500 and probably won't take any chances with his health. Hammel injured his calf before the All-Star break last year and was never the same. Ps Travis Wood or Trevor Cahill could start a game if needed.

Fantasy Tip: Hammel tossed two scoreless innings before departing to drop his ERA on the year to 2.09. The way he's throwing this year, he should remain in starting lineups in all formats if he's able to make his next start.
