Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo hitting second

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 16:46:49 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo is starting in right field and hitting second against New York Yankees SP Ivan Nova Monday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is in a favorable lineup spot as a value play tonight on FantasyScore, and he has 10 of his 12 home runs this year against right-handed pitchers. The fact that he has eight hits in his last 20 at-bats (.400) with a home run and seven RBI since July 18 is another reason to consider Choo tonight.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton playing right field

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 11:33:39 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton will bat seventh and play right field against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Andrew Heaney Sunday, July 26. OF Shin-Soo Choo is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Hamilton ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is only hitting .222 versus lefties this season and .218 during the month of July, making him a risky play in FantasyScore this afternoon.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo hits for cycle

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 22:50:49 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo hit for the cycle Tuesday, July 21, against the Colorado Rockies, and he finished with three RBIs. It was just the eighth cycle in franchise history, and first since Sept. 23, 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($3,700; or 7.4% of cap) entered the game hitting just .244 (6-for-34) with three extra-base hits and five RBIs in 12 games in the month of July, so this came out of nowhere for FantasyScore players.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo sitting out

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 14:28:05 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chris Rusin Monday, July 20. OF Ryan Rua will start in left field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) has struggled against left-handed pitchers this season, so he is receiving a day off. Rua ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) has not done much at the plate this season and probably should be avoided on FantasyScore.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo out of lineup

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 08:12:13 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo isn't in the starting lineup Sunday, July 19, against the Houston Astros. OF Ryan Rua will start in left field and hit sixth in the order against LHP Dallas Keuchel.

Fantasy Tip: Rua ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) is hitting just .138 against lefties, and he doesn't deserve any FantasyScore consideration.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo dropped to eighth

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 13:13:30 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo has been dropped to eighth in the batting order Saturday, July 18, against the Houston Astros. 2B Rougned Odor will hit second against RHP Scott Feldman.

Fantasy Tip: Odor ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) went 3-for-5 while in the two-spot Friday, and he's a strong option against righties. Choo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) hasn't had a multi-hit game since June 29, and he's gone 0-for-13 in his last three games. With both players being left-handed hitters this could be the start of a trend that drastically decreases Choo's fantasy value for the remainder of the season.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo to see less playing time?

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 11:28:20 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo could find himself platooning if he continues to struggle against left-handed pitchers. He is batting just .155 in 110 at-bats versus southpaws this year, with an OPS of .473.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) is not a great option in FantasyScore today, even though the team is facing right-handed SP Scott Feldman. He is 4-for-31 during the month of July and is batting .194 on the road this season. Choo is 5-for-23 in his career against Feldman, with two doubles and one RBI.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo out of lineup

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 14:34:00 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo is not in the starting lineup Friday, July 17. As a result, 2B Rougned Odor is hitting second in the batting order against Houston Astros SP Collin McHugh.

Fantasy Tip: Odor ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has been hot in July (.294-1-6) and is batting .257 (29-for-113) with three of his four home runs against right-handed pitchers in 2015. With a move up in the order tonight against McHugh, Odor is definitely not a bad second base option if you're looking to save a little money at the position.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo not getting on base

Wed, 15 Jul 2015 12:08:17 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo has a .294 on-base percentage in 500 plate appearances since last July, which is 95 points lower than his career on-base percentage.

Fantasy Tip: Choo ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) clearly isn't the same player he was with the Cleveland Indians, but he still can be useful for fantasy owners in the second half. The lefty swinger does have 11 home runs and 38 RBI and continues to hit at a nice hitter's park. He can surely be used effectively on FantasyScore when facing the right right-handed pitchers.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo not likely to be traded

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 19:38:22 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo is a candidate to be traded, to alleviate a logjam of left-handed hitters and give the team balance, but he is owed $102 million over the next five seasons, and his contract includes a limited no-trade clause that allows him to block deals to 10 clubs. In order to trade him, the team likely would need to throw in significant cash, prospects and take back expensive talent in return.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has struggled against left-handed pitching this season, posting a weak .481 OPS in 120 plate appearances. FantasyScore players will want to avoid Choo ($4,200; or 8.4% of cap) vs. LHP, although he still has a solid .854 OPS vs. RHP.
