Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo drives in game-winner

Mon, 20 Jun 2016 21:43:11 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo continued to come up big in the week since he was activated off the disabled list, tallying a go-ahead two-run single in the fourth inning en route to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Monday, June 20. Choo also plated the tying run in the ninth inning on Saturday, June 18, in another comeback win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Choo is on the verge of making up for the time lost to a hamstring injury. While he is only sporting a .233 average at the moment, owners need to remember he came off the disabled list on June 13 batting .188. His OBP is .421 - just shy of his career high - and he has more walks (12) than strikeouts (11), suggesting he is seeing the ball as well as he ever has. The fact he is batting leadoff for one of the best lineups in baseball doesn't hurt matters either, so keep him active.

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a walk in a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Saturday, June 18, and he has five hits and six walks in five games since returning from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Choo should be back in starting lineups in all formats, and if he was cut loose in your league when he hit the DL, snatch him up.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo out Thursday

Thu, 16 Jun 2016 10:17:09 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo has the day off Thursday, June 16, with 2B Rougned Odor hitting leadoff. OF Ryan Rua is in left field and hits sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Odor has hit four homers in the last week, and he's a great start against Daniel Mengden in his second career start. Rua has also done some yardwork the past week sending three out, which doubled his season total of six homers. He, too, is worth consideration in the low end.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo back with a bang

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 23:47:39 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) returned to the lineup Monday, June 13, against the Oakland Athletics. He went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, his first of the year, and a walk.

Fantasy Tip: The homer was a good sign for Choo, who finally appears to be healthy. If he is available off the waiver wire, snap him up immediately. He is a must-start fantasy option when he is 100 percent and hitting to his capabilities.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo returns Monday

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 16:47:26 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) is back in the lineup Monday, June 13, after being activated from the disabled list. He's starting in right field and batting leadoff opposite Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea.

Fantasy Tip: It's good to see Choo back with the Rangers but he's not in the clear just yet, as remember, he returned from a lengthy stint on the disabled list about a month ago, only to end up back on there after just two plate appearances. If he can stay healthy, he still has much to offer fantasy owners at the top of a dangerous Texas batting order.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo may return soon

Sat, 11 Jun 2016 06:18:09 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) could be activated from the 15-day disabled list Monday, June 13, if he does not suffer any setbacks during his rehab games with Class AAA Frisco this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Choo likely will be an everyday player for the Rangers once he is activated from the disabled list. He has gone 3-for-16 with one RBI so far this season but is still a decent fantasy player when healthy. Owners in daily fantasy leagues may want to see him play in a game or two before using him in their lineups.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo returning to games

Fri, 03 Jun 2016 13:50:36 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter for Class AA Frisco Friday, June 3, and Sunday, June 5. Choo will then play the outfield for Class AAA Round Rock Monday, June 6.

Fantasy Tip: When healthy, Choo is a solid starting option in all seasonal leagues, but injuries have cut into his fantasy returns at various times throughout his career. He is a viable stash candidate in the majority of leagues and appears to be closing in on a return to the big club. Ryan Rua projects to lose the majority of his starts when Choo returns.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo, Robinson Chirinos progressing

Wed, 01 Jun 2016 11:27:49 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) and C Robinson Chirinos (forearm) will fly to Arizona to play in extended spring games Thursday, June 2.

Fantasy Tip: Both Choo and Chirinos should return to regular roles in the starting lineup when they return from the DL, which means they should be stashed in most formats. Choo is a midrange outfielder who contributes modestly across most offensive categories, while Chirinos is more of a No. 2 fantasy catcher in two-catcher and AL-only leagues.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo on a running program

Tue, 31 May 2016 02:32:19 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) is taking batting practice and continuing a running program, but a return date is still undetermined.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has been plagued by injuries the last couple of years. He is worth stashing if you have the space, but feel free to dump him for a more reliable option if available.

Rangers | Shin-Soo Choo goes back on DL

Mon, 23 May 2016 15:26:13 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Shin-Soo Choo (hamstring) went back on the disabled list Monday, May 23. He strained his left hamstring while running the bases in his first game back from a previous DL stint Friday, May 20, against the Houston Astros.

Fantasy Tip: Choo has had some injury issues in recent years and it's only gotten worse in 2016, as his first extended stint on the sidelines lasted 40 days. Hopefully his latest trip to the DL won't last as long, but it's still troubling to see him getting banged up so often. Jared Hoying was called up for the first time to take his spot, and has some potential in deeper leagues based on his solid start at Class AAA. Ryan Rua benefits, too.
