Tigers | Anibal Sanchez's season over

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 08:53:42 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) will not pitch again this year after meeting again with Dr. James Andrews. However, Sanchez is expected to be ready for the 2016 season without any issues. He's been on the disabled list since Aug. 19 with a rotator cuff strain. Sanchez's agent, Gene Mato, said his client's visit with Andrews was "all good." Sanchez can resume throwing in a month and shouldn't have any problems being ready for next season. An MRI exam showed no structural damage and he required a platelet-rich plasma injection.

Fantasy Tip: Not counting the early exit to the season, it was a rough season for Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap). He was 10-10 with a 4.99 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and was giving up a whopping 1.7 home runs per nine innings, easily a career worst. There is profit potential in 2016 if he's healthy, and he'll come cheaply.

Tigers | More shoulder pain for Anibal Sanchez

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 08:47:10 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) will not start Wednesday, Sept. 16, because of a sore shoulder, and he might be done for the year as he thinks about visiting with Dr. James Andrews again. Sanchez has been on the disabled list with a strained rotator cuff since Aug. 19, and he had more shoulder pain after a bullpen session Monday, Sept. 14. "I don't know," Sanchez said. "It's really hard to come back. It's just two weeks left (in the season) and it's something. Probably yes, probably no; it just depends on what the doctor says."

Fantasy Tip: The odds of Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) making another start in 2015 are slim to none. Don't rely on him in any fantasy formats the rest of the season.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez to start Wednesday

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 20:48:35 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) will start Wednesday, Sept. 16, against the Minnesota Twins.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has struggled most of the year, and he is too risky to use at FantasyScore in his first start in almost a month.

Tigers | Daniel Norris, Anibal Sanchez working to return

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 15:57:31 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris (oblique) threw a bullpen session Tuesday, Sept. 8, and looked good, according to manager Brad Ausmus. SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Sept. 9, Ausmus said. Norris will move to a simulated game this weekend, and Sanchez will join Norris if his bullpen session goes well tomorrow.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if either Norris ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) or Sanchez ($5,400) will be able to return to the rotation this year. Time is running out, and neither would be a strong play in any fantasy format even if they return for a start or two.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez may be back

Sun, 06 Sep 2015 04:58:22 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) is progressing better than expected in rehab, and the team may utilize him at some point this season.

Fantasy Tip: Approach any start by Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) with caution because of his shoulder issues. The team may have been better off shutting him down, but the thinking may be to get one positive start out of him to begin the offseason on a high note.

Tigers | Health is the priority for Anibal Sanchez

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 12:04:46 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) said he and the organization agree his health is the No. 1 priority right now. He is taking his rehab slowly and hasn't thrown off a mound yet. Manager Brad Ausmus said Sanchez is "a little ways away."

Fantasy Tip: There isn't a lot of wiggle room in the timeline, so even the slightest setback could prevent Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) from returning this season. He should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation stash in all fantasy formats, and seasonal owners shouldn't fret cutting him for a player who can contribute right now.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez throwing without pain

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 14:49:30 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) threw from 90 feet without pain Thursday, Sept. 3, but said he will take a cautious approach during his rehab.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is expected to return to make at least one start before the end of the season, but his fantasy impact could be minimal. He last pitched Tuesday, Aug. 18, and might only make a single start with the Tigers in late September. So really, you're looking at a desperation stash at this point. Temper your expectations and don't be worried about cutting bait.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez expected back this year

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 16:16:19 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) is expected to return to the starting rotation at some point in September.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has had a disappointing season and projects to take the hill for just a couple more starts, at best. He is worth holding in the majority of leagues, but if needed, you can feel free to cut the currently dead weight to stay competitive.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez won't be out long

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 15:27:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) isn't believed to have a serious injury, and manager Brad Ausmus doesn't think Sanchez will be on the disabled list longer than the designated 15 days.

Fantasy Tip: Sanchez's ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) 4.99 ERA has been inflated by a 1.7 home-run-per-nine-innings rate in 2015. He'll likely continue to be a risk/reward matchup play in daily leagues for the final month of the season when he returns from the DL.

Tigers | Anibal Sanchez placed on DL

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:31:14 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Anibal Sanchez (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right rotator cuff strain Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: This is an injury that could prevent Sanchez ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) from pitching for most of the remainder of the year. In shallow leagues, there's enough reason to drop him for now if you own him. It's unknown who will enter the rotation to replace him. Stay tuned.
