Orioles | Baltimore won't sign Gallardo Friday

Fri, 12 Feb 2016 16:18:32 -0800

Free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) is not expected to sign a deal with the Baltimore Orioles Friday, Feb. 12. There is still work to be done to reach an agreement, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: All signs point to Gallardo eventually signing with the O's. Don't let his 3.42 ERA with the Texas Rangers in 2015 fool you. He lost some velocity on his fastball and will be pitching in another bad environment for hurlers. Let someone else take the chance on him in a deep mixed league.

Orioles | Update on Yovani Gallardo and O's

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 15:37:30 -0800

Updating a previous report, Free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) and the Baltimore Orioles are deep in discussions about a deal that would be in the range of $40 million to $45 million.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo was fortunate to post a sub-4.00 ERA in Texas last year with declining velocity. A move to another hitter-friendly environment is dicey, and regression seems inevitable. Target him only for starting depth in deep mixed formats if he signs with the O's.

Orioles | Dexter Fowler of interest to Baltimore

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 14:45:04 -0800

Free-agent OF Dexter Fowler (Cubs) is a potential fit for the Balitmore Orioles, if they sign free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers), according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: A move to the Orioles wouldn't hurt Fowler's fantasy upside as much as other possible landing spots, and he could be a sneaky value again in 2016, despite a career-best season last year. He returned 2015 owners 102 runs, 17 home runs and 20 stolen bases with a .250/.346/.411 slash line. It is also worth noting, Fowler should be held in higher regard in points leagues and formats using on-base percentage.

MLB | Yovani Gallardo had bad finish

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 14:10:40 -0800

Free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) allowed 94 hits in 71 innings in the second half with the Texas Rangers last season and went six innings in just two of his outings.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo is nearing a deal with the Baltimore Orioles, and moving to another hitter's park carrying the aforementioned issues is pretty scary for fantasy owners. He could find nice stretches of usefulness, but he'd mainly be a deep mixed asset if he lands in Baltimore.

Orioles | Yovani Gallardo progressing with Orioles

Wed, 10 Feb 2016 08:01:35 -0800

Free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) is moving closer to a deal with the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday, Feb. 10. The proposed deal is rumored to be for three years.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo battled last season, and his 1.42 WHIP was the worst of his career. He was still able to pull off 13 wins with a 3.42 ERA, which was actually the lowest of his career in seasons he made at least five starts. His K-rate has steadily declined, but he figured out how to win with declining stuff. He's a back-end rotation guy for your fantasy squad.

Orioles | O's still interested in Yovani Gallardo

Sun, 07 Feb 2016 07:23:22 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles are reconsidering the pursuit of free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers). The team has looked at his medical files again and is weighing the pros and cons of signing him.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo remains in free agency because the team is hesitant to part with their first-round draft pick (14th overall) to sign him. The soon-to-be 30-year-old righty won 13 games with a 3.42 ERA in 33 starts last season but also posted a 1.416 WHIP and struck out a career-low 5.9 batters per nine innings. Gallardo should be viewed as a late-round flier option in deep mixed and single-universe fantasy leagues.

Orioles | Baltimore remains interested in Gallardo

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 11:29:39 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles remain interested in free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers), according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA in 33 starts in his first season with the Texas Rangers and could potentially serve as the ace in Baltimore. Camden Yards is hardly a pitcher's paradise, but the soon-to-be 30-year-old was able to fare better than most in the hitters' haven that is Rangers Ballpark last season. The one-time All-Star has won at least 13 games in six of his last seven years and was brilliant in his only career start in Camden Yards in 2015, tossing six scoreless innings.

MLB | Yovani Gallardo down to three

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 11:01:46 -0800

Free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers) has narrowed his teams to sign with to the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies.

Fantasy Tip: None of the three spots are great for his declining stuff. He'll be an SP3 or SP4 option, but his ratios may continue to suffer.

Orioles | Baltimore hesitant on pitchers

Fri, 22 Jan 2016 08:43:57 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles do not want to give up a first-round pick in order to sign free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo (Rangers), according to general manager Dan Duquette. They also haven't made an offer to free-agent SP Doug Fister (Nationals) and don't think free-agent SP Cliff Lee (elbow) is ready to pitch.

Fantasy Tip: Fister is probably the the most intriguing pitcher of the three because of his heavy ground-ball profile as depth for your deep mixed rotation, but a move to the hitter-friendly environment of Camden Yards would kill a lot of optimism.

Rockies | Colorado eyeing Yovani Gallardo

Thu, 21 Jan 2016 13:16:57 -0800

Free-agent SP Yovani Gallardo's (Rangers) representatives are scheduled to meet with the Colorado Rockies Thursday, Jan. 21.

Fantasy Tip: While Gallardo won 13 games with a 3.42 ERA last season, he returned a worrisome 5.9 K/9 and 1.35 WHIP. A move to Coors Field couldn't be spun positively, either. View him as a potential late-round grab in deep mixed and single-universe leagues, and a potential spot start option in favorable matchups at FantasyScore and in the majority of yearly formats.
