Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles had seven receptions for a career-high 152 yards in Week 2 against the Indianapolis Colts Monday, Sept. 15. He also had four carries for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles was unstoppable in the pass game, and he has posted a pair of rushing touchdown through the first two games. Philadelphia fans love him, Indianapolis fans are not fond of him, and the same is true for fantasy owners of LeSean McCoy. Sproles' effectiveness is cutting into the value of McCoy to this point. Sproles is a fabulous RB2 or flex play in points-per-reception (PPR) formats, and a decent low-end RB2 in standard leagues.
Mon, 08 Sep 2014 06:02:48 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles had 11 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown and four receptions for 14 yards in Week 1. He played 33 snaps (38 percent) while RB LeSean McCoy played 67 percent of the snaps. The two took four snaps together.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles broke a 49-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that inflated his box score numbers. He won't always be that productive in limited work, but he might be a great flex option against the Colts in Week 2.
Fri, 05 Sep 2014 19:53:42 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles CB Nolan Carroll will receive the first chance to return kicks Week 1 because of the injury to WR Josh Huff (shoulder). RB Darren Sproles and CB Brandon Boykin are also options to return kicks.
Fri, 15 Aug 2014 16:45:39 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB Henry Josey is expected to handle a majority of the carries after RBs LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles in the preseason game Friday, Aug. 15, against the New England Patriots.
Fantasy Tip: Josey is one of the candidates for the No. 3 running back job in Philly, and his competition - Chris Polk and Matthew Tucker - are sidelined by injuries.
Tue, 22 Jul 2014 20:03:39 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles' ability to win one-on-one matchups in space is what head coach Chip Kelly plans to exploit this season. Kelly said opposing defenses played a lot of man-to-man coverage against his offense last year, and his goal was to find a way to exploit the coverage this year.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles has done his best work in the passing game the last couple seasons, and that shouldn't change this year. Consider him a low-end RB3 in PPR leagues.
Thu, 17 Jul 2014 09:20:28 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles is a running back and not a wide receiver, the team continues to emphasize. The team's brass has bristled at the notion that Sproles will only help in the passing game. However, Sproles averaged 3.5 and 3.7 rushing attempts per game the last two years and caught 146 passes during that span, meaning he's likely to be a much bigger factor in the passing game in head coach Chip Kelly's offense.
Fantasy Tip: While Sproles could be used at times to spell McCoy in the backfield, we fully expect him to be far more effective in the passing game once again as a way to account for the loss of DeSean Jackson. As always, Sproles will be much more valuable in PPR leagues in 2014.
Wed, 16 Jul 2014 11:35:28 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said he has been impressed with RB Darren Sproles and expects Sproles to help the offense. "Sproles has the quickest feet I've ever seen out of any player," McCoy said. "He'll help us out tremendously. I think the best thing about him, what he brings to this team is not only leadership and experience, but also just another big playmaker on the team."
Mon, 14 Jul 2014 19:24:08 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB Chris Polk should serve as RB LeSean McCoy's primary backup this year with RB Darren Sproles maintaining a secondary role in the offense, according to ESPN.com's Joe Kaiser.
Fantasy Tip: With Bryce Brown being traded to the Buffalo Bills in the offseason, an injury to McCoy would mean a serious workload for Polk. He is worth considering as a handcuff if you draft McCoy.
Wed, 25 Jun 2014 09:36:24 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB Darren Sproles received praise about his work ethic from Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. "We heard from the coaches that coached him what an intelligent football player he is and [we] learned that from the first day he was in this building and how sharp he is and how dedicated he is," Kelly said. "I talked to Norv Turner and he remarked to me when I saw him at one of the pro days, he said, 'You'll have to slow him down because he only knows one speed.' And that's the same thing you see. Darren practices and trains at one speed. It's awesome. He fits in with the culture that we want in terms of preparation, but it's everything we wanted when we got him here."
Fri, 25 Apr 2014 20:17:24 -0700
Philadelphia Eagles RB LeSean McCoy said he believes the addition of RB Darren Sproles will help him this upcoming season, because it will allow him to stay fresh longer in games. "Being in the prime of my career and bringing in a guy like Sproles who can do so much, we'll work well together. I think having me fresh in the fourth quarter with fewer carries can be even more dangerous," McCoy said.
Tue, 25 Mar 2014 19:04:24 -0700
New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Tuesday, March 25, that RB Travaris Cadet could take on "a little more of that role" that RB Darren Sproles played in the team's offense over the past three seasons.
Fantasy Tip: Cadet still has to battle for touches with Mark Ingram, Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas, so don't expect Cadet to become a fantasy stud in points-per-reception (PPR) leagues like Sproles. However, Cadet is likely to see more touches, and his workload should be monitored this summer. If he has a good training camp and preseason, and perhaps an injury or two occurs, he could emerge as a useful fantasy option in more than just deeper leagues.
Fri, 14 Mar 2014 10:31:31 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles extended RB Darren Sproles for two more seasons, meaning he'll be in an Eagles uniform for at least the next three years, according to a league source. Financial terms of the extension weren't announced.

Thu, 13 Mar 2014 05:59:11 -0700
The Philadelphia Eagles acquired RB Darren Sproles from the New Orleans Saints for an undisclosed package.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles fits the offense well and will continue to be a good running back to own in point-per reception leagues. However, he'll be 31 next season, and he could have landed in a better spot for fantasy purposes. Sproles' presence may also limit LeSean McCoy's touches, but it should add more longevity to his career after his phenomenal, but taxing, 2013 season. Sproles should often be a good RB3 in PPR leagues, but is a RB4 or handcuff material in others. McCoy remains a stud RB1 in all formats.
Thu, 13 Mar 2014 05:19:31 -0700
The Washington Redskins are making a push to trade for New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles.
Wed, 12 Mar 2014 09:42:07 -0700

Sun, 09 Mar 2014 15:40:27 -0700
The New Orleans Saints are targeting a ball-control offense in 2014. They are expected to use four-receiver sets with a satellite running back less often. This philosophy switch is probably what led to the release of RB Darren Sproles and WR Lance Moore.
Fri, 07 Mar 2014 15:22:08 -0800
The New Orleans Saints will cut RB Darren Sproles, according to a source.
Fantasy Tip: The Saints have a bevy of running backs without Sproles, whose production dropped drastically in 2013, on roster. Khiry Robinson and Mark Ingram will likely serve as the backfield tandem in New Orleans next season, with Pierre Thomas in danger of being cut, as well, or traded. Travaris Cadet could also factor in for touches next season.

Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said Thursday, Feb. 6, that he is hopeful WR Ace Sanders becomes a "Darren Sproles-type."

Tue, 28 Jan 2014 07:37:04 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles is set to count $4.25 million against the salary cap next year, but he should return because of the matchup problems he creates out of the backfield.
Fri, 03 Jan 2014 13:31:38 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Pierre Thomas (chest) did not practice again Friday, Jan. 3, and is ruled out for the team's Wild Card game this weekend.

Fri, 29 Nov 2013 16:28:46 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (ankle) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 29.
Fantasy Tip: It looks like Sproles should be able to play this week. He should be considered a No. 3 running back or flex option in standard leagues but should be more valuable in point-per-reception leagues.

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) is inactive for the team's Week 12 game against the Atlanta Falcons Thursday, Nov. 21.
Fantasy Tip: Pierre Thomas is basically a must-start now, and Mark Ingram's flex appeal just became a whole lot nicer. Lance Moore and Kenny Stills gain some more value as WR3 or flex plays, too.
Wed, 20 Nov 2013 12:27:20 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (ankle, knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 20, and is listed as questionable for Week 12.
Fantasy Tip: Owners will have to wait for the inactive list to see if Sproles will be able to play. He should be in the starting lineup if he is active, but owners should also have a backup plan in case he sits out the game.
Tue, 19 Nov 2013 15:10:08 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (knee, ankle) did not practice Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles returned to the Week 11 game after being injured, so we think it's safe to guess that his injuries aren't deemed serious enough to keep him out Thursday night against the Atlanta Falcons. Keep him in your lineup.

Fri, 08 Nov 2013 13:23:54 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (concussion) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 8, and is listed as probable for Week 10.
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Sproles has recovered from his concussion and will be able to play. He should be considered a low-end No. 2 running back or flex option this week.
Thu, 07 Nov 2013 16:05:27 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (concussion) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 7.
Wed, 06 Nov 2013 12:24:08 -0800
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (concussion) made it through the concussion program and participated in practice Wednesday, Nov. 6. Sproles said he was fine.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles practiced in full, so this is a great sign that he'll return to action in Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys. Sproles' involvement in the offense has been limited this year, making him a much weaker play than normal. We wouldn't blame you if you sat him out in favor of better options. In point-per-reception formats, he's a better option as at least a flex play.
Sun, 03 Nov 2013 11:17:20 -0800
Updating an earlier report, New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles (concussion) is out for the remainder of the Week 9 game with a concussion.

Sun, 06 Oct 2013 15:09:20 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles carried just three times for 10 yards, and he had only three catches for 31 yards, in the Week 5 game against the Chicago Bears.
Fantasy Tip: It was a bit disappointing after his huge performance in Week 4 on Monday Night Football. However, the team focused more on pounding Pierre Thomas in this one, using Sproles rather sparingly. He remains a must-start in most fantasy leagues, especially points-per-reception (PPR) formats, heading into Week 6.
Mon, 30 Sep 2013 21:22:46 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles racked up seven receptions for a game-high 114 yards and a touchdown in the Week 4 game against the Miami Dolphins Monday, Sept. 30. He also posted four carries for 28 yards and a score. The night wasn't a total success, though, as he lost his first fumble since 2010 when he was a member of the San Diego Chargers.
Sun, 22 Sep 2013 08:46:49 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram (toe) has been declared inactive for the team's Week 3 game.
Fantasy Tip: Pierre Thomas likely will receive more carries with Ingram out. Darren Sproles likely will handle his role as runner and receiver in the offense. Sproles should be seen as a No. 2 running back for teams this week with Thomas being a No. 3 running back or flex option.
Wed, 21 Aug 2013 20:36:06 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Travaris Cadet fumbled twice in the preseason game against the Oakland Raiders Friday, Aug. 16, and he drew the ire of head coach Sean Payton. "That just can't happen," Payton said. Cadet is battling RB Khiry Robinson for the fourth tailback job behind RBs Pierre Thomas, Mark Ingram and Darren Sproles.
Fri, 09 Aug 2013 13:15:01 -0700
New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram has looked very good during practices and could be seen as the player with the best training camp performance so far. He is looking like he did as a rookie when the first defender usually had a hard time bringing him down.
Fantasy Tip: It appears like Ingram is the favorite for a majority of the carries in the base offense with his training camp work. Darren Sproles is still the first Saints running back fantasy owners should look to take, but Ingram appears a better choice than Pierre Thomas at this point. Ingram likely will be a solid No. 3 running back entering the season.
Wed, 24 Jul 2013 15:07:14 -0700
New Orleans Saints RBs Mark Ingram and Pierre Thomas are expected to evenly split carries in base packages this season with RB Darren Sproles resuming is role as a multi-purpose running back.
Fantasy Tip: All three running backs should have value in fantasy leagues this season, but Sproles probably will have the most value. He should be a No. 2 running back in point-per-reception leagues and a flex option in other formats. Ingram and Thomas should be seen as No. 3 running backs or flex options in leagues.
Fri, 07 Jun 2013 13:47:17 -0700
New Orleans Saints RBs Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles have been receiving most of the carries with the first-team offense over the past three weeks. Thomas has been receiving most of the carries while Sproles has been doing different things depending on the play. RB Mark Ingram has been working mostly with the second-team offense during workouts. It appears the team will use the hot hand during games this season and not stick with one running back.
Fantasy Tip: Sproles likely will have the most fantasy value among the team's running backs because of his ability to produce in the running and passing game. Sproles should be considered a No. 1 running back especially in point-per-reception leagues because of his receiving abilities. Thomas and Ingram should be backup running backs on fantasy teams that could be flex option in some weeks.
