Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli thinks everyone on the defensive side of the ball has something to prove in 2014. "I think there's something to prove a little bit," Marinelli said. "Not something to prove from last year, but there are some guys coming here off the street with something to prove. There are some guys in contract years with something to prove. There are some guys coming out saying, 'I want to be a better player,' who have something prove."

Dallas Cowboys assistant coach Rod Marinelli and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier are candidates to be brought in to serve as the defensive coordinator.

Brad Biggs, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has had more of an open mind in regards to filling the team's defensive coordinator vacancy. Smith had previously said that he would like to hire someone outside the organization to run the defense. However, he is now keeping all of his options open. The Bears could consider defensive line coach Rod Marinelli or secondary coach Jon Hoke. Marinelli has never been a coordinator before. He said he's willing to do anything, but his agent Frank Bauer said at the Senior Bowl that he wasn't sure Marinelli wanted to give up the job of working with the linemen, a unit that still needs major work.
