Nationals | Anthony Rendon still has pain

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 11:20:50 -0700

Updating a previous report, Washington Nationals 3B/2B Anthony Rendon (knee) said he still can't swing a bat without experiencing pain in his knee. "It's still lingering. There is no point in pushing it right now and going back to square one during the season," Rendon said. "We might as well fix it right now rather than later." Rendon may not be ready for opening day, and 3B Ian Stewart is the leading candidate to fill in at the hot corner if that's the case. Stewart has played regularly this spring with Rendon down, and he has hit .323 with three home runs and four RBI. INFs Danny Espinosa and Kevin Frandsen are other options.

Fantasy Tip: Rendon is a player that is often taken at the tail end of the first round in standard 12-team mixed leagues heading into 2015, and his eligibility at both third and second base are very attractive. Keep an eye on his status as spring training comes to a close. But his minor knee injury really shouldn't cause his draft value to fluctuate much.

Nationals | Close to a deal with Kevin Frandsen

Thu, 13 Nov 2014 16:41:41 -0800

Free-agent INF Kevin Frandsen (Nationals) is close to a deal with the Washington Nationals, according to a source. Frandsen "was an effective player for us," general manager Mike Rizzo said. "He's a real team-chemistry type of guy. He gives you a grind out at-bat. He puts the bat on the ball and gets you a lot of big hits and played a variety of roles defensively that really help us fill the void when a lot of our regular guys were injured."

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman has serious injury

Wed, 30 Jul 2014 06:15:57 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) has a Grade 3 hamstring strain, according to two baseball sources.

Fantasy Tip: If the reports are confirmed, Zimmerman is likely done for the season. Anthony Rendon has taken over at third base, but second base has been a platoon of Danny Espinosa, Zach Walters and Kevin Frandsen. Espinosa has the only real value, in NL-only leagues, but the team could address second base at the trade deadline.

Nationals | Second base job up for grabs

Mon, 28 Jul 2014 18:15:20 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals will use 2B Danny Espinsoa, 2B Kevin Frandsen and SS Zach Walters at second base while 2B/3B Anthony Rendon serves as the everyday third baseman with 3B Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) sidelined. Manager Matt Williams said he will not just hand the job over to anyone in particular, and that he has decided the three players will battle it out.

Fantasy Tip: Daily fantasy owners will keep a close eye on the lineups an hour or two before game time. You can get good bargains in salary-cap formats, particularly if Frandsen or Walters are given the nod. They have generally had salary cap figures in the lower tier.
