Padres | Josh Johnson throwing

Wed, 15 Oct 2014 10:56:18 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (elbow) played catch for the first time Oct. 9 since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April. The team has three days after the World Series to decide if they'll exercise Johnson's $4 million option for the 2015 season. The belief is that even if the Padres decline the option, they would still like to re-sign him.

Padres | Josh Johnson to have TJS

Wed, 23 Apr 2014 13:44:52 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery Thursday, April 24. This will be Johnson's second ligament-replacement procedure.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson just can't stay healthy. He'll be lost for the rest of the year and at least the beginning of the 2014 season. This bodes well for Robbie Erlin sticking around in the rotation for the long term.

Padres | Josh Johnson to see doctor Tuesday

Thu, 17 Apr 2014 14:55:46 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will meet with Dr. James Andrews Tuesday, April 22, according to manager Bud Black. Andrews will check Johnson's ligaments, forearm flexor tendons and the back of his elbow.

Fantasy Tip: Many have likely moved on from Johnson at this point because of his injury history. If you're waiting, you'll have to wait a little longer. There looks like a decent chance he'll have to undergo Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career.

Padres | Josh Johnson to see James Andrews

Tue, 15 Apr 2014 17:01:05 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will visit with Dr. James Andrews.

Fantasy Tip: This sounds dubious for Johnson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. A visit to Andrews often times precludes Tommy John surgery. Stay tuned and make plans to replace Johnson on your roster if he receives bad news.

Padres | Josh Johnson to be re-evaluated

Sun, 13 Apr 2014 20:21:56 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will be re-evaluated this week. The team is concerned Johnson's injury is not getting any better.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners of Johnson need to be patient. It appears his recovery process is really slow, and he might be longer than originally anticipated. Stay tuned.

Padres | Josh Johnson to start on DL

Sat, 22 Mar 2014 19:35:31 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson (forearm) will be sidelined at least a month to five weeks due to a flexor strain in his right forearm. He will start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Johnson can't seem to catch a break. He has plenty of talent, but his propensity for injury makes him a very risky fantasy selection. At this point, he is worth a flier in the later rounds of mixed leagues, but make sure to have plenty of depth on hand since he is pretty brittle.

Padres | Josh Johnson using changeup more

Mon, 03 Mar 2014 14:43:17 -0800

San Diego Padres SP Josh Johnson is using his changeup more this spring. "That's probably the best my changeup has been since I was in the minor leagues," he said. "I've talked to (Hoffman) about his thinking with it and what he does; maybe something can click." Johnson has also worked with pitching coach Darren Balsley on a more downhill plane with good extension in his delivery. Johnson tossed two scoreless innings Monday, March 3, with two strikeouts.
