Rangers | Bobby Wilson on the bench

Sun, 15 May 2016 11:22:22 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bobby Wilson is not in the starting lineup against Toronto Blue Jays SP Aaron Sanchez Sunday, May 15. C Bryan Holaday will start at catcher and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Holaday has gone 5-for-15 with one home run and four RBI in May and could be a sleeper option in some daily fantasy leagues.

Rangers | Bobby Wilson hits grand slam

Sat, 14 May 2016 22:28:20 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bobby Wilson hit his second grand slam in a week Saturday, May 14, in a 6-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Wilson is currently hitting .263.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is turning into a decent-hitting catcher for the Rangers, who fell into a hole early when top catcher Robinson Chirinos was injured. Wilson was re-acquired from the Detroit Tigers, and he is worth watching in all fantasy formats. There aren't too many solid-hitting catchers, and Wilson may be an exception.

Rangers | Bobby Wilson has huge day

Sun, 08 May 2016 14:18:08 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bobby Wilson didn't have to wait long to get back at his former team, going 3-for-4 and hitting a tie-breaking grand slam in the eighth inning in a win over the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, May 08. Wilson was traded from Texas to Detroit in March before returning to the Rangers in a deal for minor-league RP Chad Bell earlier this week.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is 6-for-13 with a homer and five RBI in three starts since rejoining the club. At this point, it is fair to wonder if Texas will start giving him more regular at-bats in place of struggling backstop Bryan Holaday. Given the complete lack of quality fantasy catchers, Wilson needs to be on the radar of owners in deeper leagues.

Rangers | Bryan Holaday out of the lineup

Sun, 08 May 2016 09:11:07 -0700

Texas Rangers C Bryan Holaday is not in the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander Sunday, May 8. C Bobby Wilson will start at catcher and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has gone 3-for-7 with one RBI since being acquired by the Rangers. He could be used in two-catcher leagues, but owners in most leagues should be able to find other players to use in their lineups.

Tigers | Bobby Wilson starting against Twins

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 12:53:52 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Bobby Wilson is starting behind the plate and batting eighth against Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes Friday, April 29. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Saltalamacchia has eight runs, six home runs and 15 RBI to start the year, but his fantasy value is likely about to shrink with James McCann close to returning from injury. Wilson hasn't registered a hit through 10 plate appearances this season, and he owns a .201/.265/.298 slash line for his career. Avoid Wilson in all fantasy formats.

Tigers | Jarrod Saltalamacchia resting

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 13:00:56 -0700

Detroit Tigers C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 27. C Bobby Wilson is doing the catching and batting eighth against Oakland Athletics SP Sonny Gray.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson isn't much of a hitter, as he hit just .189 with one home run in 2015. You can find much better low-price catchers in daily formats Wednesday night.

Tigers | Anthony Gose, Saltalamacchia sitting

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 14:13:40 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Anthony Gose and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 22. OF Tyler Collins is starting in center field and batting seventh, while C Bobby Wilson is behind the dish and is hitting eighth against Cleveland Indians SP Josh Tomlin.

Fantasy Tip: Collins and Wilson are at the bottom of the barrel in terms of daily options to consider Friday night. That's two straight games Gose has been on the bench against right-handers, so his playing time could be in jeopardy moving forward. After all, Gose is off to a .200 (8-for-40) start with no stolen bases in one attempt.

Tigers | Three Tigers take a seat

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 07:10:01 -0700

Detroit Tigers SS Jose Iglesias, OF Anthony Gose and C Jarrod Saltalamacchia are out of the lineup Thursday, April 14. OF Tyler Collins is hitting sixth, C Bobby Wilson is hitting seventh and SS Andrew Romine is hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The trio is a combined 1-for-5 (.200) this season, and none of them provide enough upside for a DFS start. Furthermore, Jordan Zimmermann is hitting ninth in the National League park, which means the bottom of Detroit's order is even more questionable. That could affect Ian Kinsler in the leadoff spot. Kinsler is on a .355-3-8 tear and remains a daily consideration, but his RBI upside is minimal today.

Tigers | James McCann to DL

Tue, 12 Apr 2016 07:26:28 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann (ankle) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a Grade 2 sprain of his right ankle Tuesday, April 12. He'll be out two to four weeks. C Bobby Wilson was recalled from Class AAA Toledo.

Fantasy Tip: Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Wilson will likely split it up behind the plate. However, neither are worth much fantasy consideration right now.

Rangers | Chris Gimenez nursing ankle injury

Tue, 29 Mar 2016 12:08:52 -0700

Texas Rangers C Chris Gimenez (ankle) has an infection in his left ankle and might not be ready to play by opening day. He is resuming baseball activities Tuesday, March 29, though. If Gimenez is not ready to start the season, Cs Bobby Wilson or Michael McKenry will back up starting C Robinson Chirinos.

Fantasy Tip: Gimenez is nothing more than a low-end backstop in cavernous mixed, AL-only and two-catcher formats, so the potential of missing a few games to start the season doesn't have a significant fantasy impact. Wilson or McKenry would have fleeting value in those deeper leagues, if they break camp as the backup catcher.
