Royals | Two spots in KC rotation up for grabs

Sun, 31 Jan 2016 08:10:39 -0800

Kansas City Royals SPs Kris Medlen, Chris R. Young, Danny Duffy and Dillon Gee are expected to compete for the final two spots in the starting rotation during spring training, according to manager Ned Yost and pitching coach Dave Eiland.

Fantasy Tip: Yost hinted that SPs Ian Kennedy, Yordano Ventura and Edinson Volquez would likely be the first three starters in the rotation, although he is hesitant to name an Opening Day starter. Owners in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues should keep tabs on this competition throughout spring training and the winners are worthy of consideration as late-round fliers in this year's fantasy drafts.

Royals | Chris Young returning to KC

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 08:48:36 -0800

Free-agent SP Chris R. Young (Royals) agreed to a two-year deal with the Kansas City Royals Monday, Dec. 7. The two-year deal is worth approximately $11.75 million, CBS Sports reported.

Fantasy Tip: Young was 11-6 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. His 6.06 K/9 left much to be desired, but he's an option to round out your mixed league rotation.

Royals | Zeroing in on Chris Young

Sun, 06 Dec 2015 14:08:43 -0800

Free-agent SP Chris R. Young (Royals) appears close to a reunion with the Kansas City Royals, as the team is actively pursuing him.

Fantasy Tip: Young had a decent season helping the Royals to a World Series. Young was 11-6 with a 3.06 earned run average, so it would be understandable that both sides would want another go-round. Should Young land back in Kansas City, think of him as a mid-round AL selection and a later-round mixed pick.

Royals | KC interested in Chris Young reunion

Tue, 10 Nov 2015 12:46:03 -0800

Free-agent SP Chris R. Young (Royals) is drawing interest from the Kansas City Royals for a reunion next season, but his asking price will have to drop first, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Young has become a solid pitcher again over the past two seasons, after numerous injuries derailed Young in the latter part of the past decade. Still, he's a risky play because another injury could derail his comeback. Young is worth a flyer in the later rounds of most drafts.

Royals | KC sets World Series rotation

Mon, 26 Oct 2015 11:19:59 -0700

Kansas City Royals SPs Edinson Volquez and Johnny Cueto will start Games 1 and 2 of the World Series against the New York Mets, followed by SPs Yordano Ventura and Chris R. Young.

Fantasy Tip: The Royals have a tall task matching up with the Mets' young stud starters in the Series. Ventura is the most promising Royals starter with the most upside for 2016 fantasy owners to invest in. Cueto had a rough go of it upon being traded to KC midseason, but we would expect him to continue his fantasy ace-like ways next year.

Orioles | BAL may have interest in Chris Young

Mon, 19 Oct 2015 01:02:22 -0700

The Baltimore Orioles may have interest in Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young once free agency hits. Orioles manager Buck Showalter is a fan of Young's mechanics and numbers.

Fantasy Tip: There is some worry Young ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) and his numbers won't translate well to Camden Yards, and you may want to temper your enthusiasm as well.

Royals | Chris Young to start ALCS Game 4

Sun, 18 Oct 2015 15:36:29 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young has been tapped as the official starter for Game 4 of the American League Championship Series Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($4,200, 8.4% of cap) was strong in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Houston Astros as he came out of the bullpen to allow one run in four innings with seven strikeouts. He is worth the start in FantasyScore.

Indians | Yan Gomes out of Sunday lineup

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 10:36:58 -0700

Cleveland Indians C Yan Gomes is not starting Sunday, Sept. 27, against the Kansas City Royals. C Roberto Perez is starting in place of Gomes and batting ninth against Royals SP Chris R. Young.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is hitting .333 in the past week, but he has a .194 average against Kansas City and a .250 mark against Young so the team is playing the percentages and giving Gomes a day off from catching. Perez ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) has had no luck against Young and should be left on the bench.

Royals | Chris Young to start Sunday

Thu, 24 Sep 2015 15:13:43 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Chris R. Young will make the start against the Cleveland Indians Sunday, Sept. 27.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has had his moments this year (3.29 ERA), but he hasn't started a game since July 28 and will likely be on a short leash against the Tribe. That makes him a candidate to avoid on FantasyScore.
