Reds | Skip Schumaker playing left field

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 11:24:24 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Skip Schumaker will bat seventh and play left field against Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza Saturday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is batting .294 over the past week and is 6-for-17 (.353) with a double versus Garza in his career, making this a favorable matchup for him. FantasyScore owners in need of cap relief should keep him in mind for their lineups tonight.

Reds | Skip Schumaker leading off Monday

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 11:31:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 2B Skip Schumaker is starting in left field and hitting leadoff against Detroit Tigers SP Buck Farmer Monday, Aug. 24.

Fantasy Tip: Farmer has struggled mightily in the rotation for Detroit this year, but Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has only 36 hits in 169 at-bats (.213 average) with no home runs this season. Schumaker's leadoff spot raises his daily value, but he's still hard to trust on FantasyScore.

Reds | Jay Bruce not playing Sunday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 08:41:02 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson Sunday, Aug. 23. 2B Skip Schumaker will start in left field and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) should return to the lineup soon. Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has a hit in each of his last three games but is hitting .167 in August and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Reds | Marlon Byrd out vs. Royals

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:06:06 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd is not starting Wednesday, Aug. 19. 2B Skip Schumaker is starting in left field and batting eighth against Kansas City Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Byrd ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. He is hitting just .183 with four RBI through 64 plate appearances in August. Seasonal owners should be sizing up replacements. Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore contests Wednesday.

Reds | Quiet on the trade front for the Reds

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 14:50:48 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd, 2B Skip Schumaker, C Brayan Pena and RP Manny Parra are all potential trade candidates who could likely clear waivers, but Cincinnati has not received any trade interest on them, accordingly to general manager Walt Jocketty.

Fantasy Tip: There is still potential a deal could be made before the deadline for players to be eligible for the post season Monday, Aug. 31, but outside Byrd ($4,600, 9.2% of cap), the other three are essentially fantasy afterthoughts outside cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues.

Reds | Marlon Byrd being rested

Tue, 11 Aug 2015 15:07:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Aug. 11. 2B Skip Schumaker is starting in left field and hitting second against San Diego Padres SP Colin Rea.

Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has 32 hits in 147 at-bats (.218) this year with no home runs and nine RBI. Look to avoid him on FantasyScore, even while going up against a pitcher making his major league debut.

Reds | Joey Votto receives day off

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 07:47:40 -0700

Cincinnati Reds 1B Joey Votto isn't in the starting lineup Sunday, Aug. 2, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. 2B Skip Schumaker will start in left field and hit second in the order, while 2B Ivan De Jesus will start at first base and hit eighth against RHP Charlie Morton.

Fantasy Tip: De Jesus ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) is hitting .317 through 73 plate appearances against righties this season. It would be nicer to see him a little higher in the order, but De Jesus has some upside to offer FantasyScore owners. Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has an on-base percentage of just .305 for the season, and he has very little to offer FantasyScore owners despite hitting at the top of the lineup.

Reds | Billy Hamilton sitting out

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 10:39:56 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Billy Hamilton is out of the lineup Tuesday, July 21, with OF Skip Schumaker hitting eighth in his place.

Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) isn't much of an option on FantasyScore. It's their fifth game in as many days so it's likely a routine day off for Hamilton.

Reds | Marlon Byrd out of Tuesday lineup

Tue, 07 Jul 2015 12:25:34 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Marlon Byrd is not starting Tuesday, July 7, against the Washington Nationals. 2B Skip Schumaker is starting in Byrd's place.

Fantasy Tip: This is a bit of a surprise as Byrd ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has a 10-game hitting streak and a .356 average during that streak. It is likely because Max Scherzer is pitching for the Nationals. Byrd has a .200 mark with four strikeouts against Scherzer, and Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has three hits in six at-bats.

Reds | Skip Schumaker starting

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 12:57:27 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Skip Schumaker will start in left field and bat sixth against Matt Harvey and the New York Mets Saturday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) hasn't done a lot with the limited playing time he's been given this year. It's probably best to fade him against Harvey today, unless you want to use more of your salary cap at other positions.
