Angels | C.J. Wilson to have surgery

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 16:30:33 -0700

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will have surgery to fix a torn labrum in his left shoulder by Dr. Neal ElAttrache next week. Wilson will miss the rest of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is in his last season with the Angels, so he'll likely move on in 2017. The veteran lefty doesn't have much left in the tank and probably won't be fantasy relevant outside of single-universe leagues for the rest of what's left of his career.

Angels | C.J. Wilson out 3-6 months

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 15:16:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is "leaning towards" season-ending surgery to fix a torn labrum in his left shoulder that would require a recovery time of three to six months. Wilson is waiting to schedule surgery with Dr. Neal ElAttrache.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is in the final year of his deal with the Angels, so he's likely to move on. He has basically no upside left for fantasy owners, as he's seen his velocity and strikeout rate drop in each of the last three years. He shouldn't be stashed anywhere.

Angels | C.J. Wilson debating surgery

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 14:12:35 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is strongly considering season-ending surgery on his left shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is a desperation stash in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, and at this point, you're likely better off replacing him with a healthy contributor. Remember, he hasn't pitched yet this season.

Angels | C.J. Wilson to get second opinion

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 19:06:16 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will go for a second opinion on his left shoulder injury. General manager Billy Eppler said Wilson's shoulder is "not firing" like it should.

Fantasy Tip: It remains rather uncertain if Wilson will be able to return this summer. If you were stashing him away hoping for a return, it is likely a longshot at this point. If you need the roster space, drop him for someone who can help now.

Angels | C.J. Wilson to resume throwing

Mon, 06 Jun 2016 14:29:27 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will resume throwing this week. He has already been shut down several times with shoulder issues.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has been having shoulder problems since spring training, and as a result, hasn't even made his season debut yet. Even though he's about to start throwing again -- unless yet another setback occurs -- it could still be awhile before Wilson returns to a major league mound. Thus, owners shouldn't even worry about stashing him at this point.

Angels | C.J. Wilson has no new damage

Tue, 31 May 2016 16:25:19 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson's (shoulder) MRI exam showed no new damage to his shoulder, and he's been shut down for the time being, according to manager Mike Scioscia. Wilson's last diagnosis showed tendonitis.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson seems like a lost cause at this point. Coming into the season he was likely avoided in most mixed leagues, too, because of his injury concerns and drop in velocity in recent years. There is little incentive to stashing him now outside of the deepest AL-only affairs.

Angels | C.J. Wilson shut down

Mon, 30 May 2016 06:58:06 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will be shut down for a week because he experienced some tightness in his biceps during a bullpen session Saturday, May 28. The team will determine the next step in his recovery after he rests for a week. It is not known if he will need an MRI on his biceps.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson was making progress in his recovery, but this will push his return date back. Owners will need to monitor the situation to see when Wilson will be able to return to the mound. Owners in all leagues should avoid him until he is able to pitch for the Angels again.

Angels | C.J. Wilson rehabbing at Salt Lake

Sun, 29 May 2016 07:05:13 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will make his next rehab start for Class AAA Salt Lake Monday, May 30. He is expected to make at least two starts with Salt Lake before being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson should be back in the majors by the middle of next month but isn't worth stashing outside of AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues due to decreased velocity and low strikeout totals.

Angels | C.J. Wilson has decent rehab outing

Thu, 26 May 2016 18:12:20 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) allowed one run on five hits over four-plus innings in a rehab start for Class A Inland Empire Wednesday, May 25, with no walks and four strikeouts. He threw 35 of his 56 pitches for strikes and his fastball topped out at 90 mph.

Fantasy Tip: It is uncertain if Wilson's next start will come with Inland Empire or for Class AAA Salt Lake. If all goes well on his rehab assignment, he could be activated from the disabled list during the first two weeks of June. Wilson is only worth stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues.
