Angels | C.J. Wilson could return in June

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:46:23 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) hopes to return to the starting rotation in mid-June. He is scheduled to throw a bullpen session May 9, and will toss a simulated game May 18, if all goes well. Wilson would then be in line to begin a rehab assignment May 23, and would probably need at least four starts before being activated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has been throwing for several weeks on flat ground using an altered delivery designed to prevent him from re-injuring his shoulder. The 35-year-old southpaw could be worth stashing in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues.

Angels | C.J. Wilson throws Friday

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 17:03:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) threw from a distance of 90 feet on flat ground Friday, April 22. Manager Mike Scioscia said Wilson will not be ready to resume throwing off a mound until he is making throws from a distance of 130 feet.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson should only be considered for AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues when he is able to return to action. The 35-year-old lefty went 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts in 2015.

Angels | C.J. Wilson advances to 90 feet

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 22:09:34 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is playing catch at 90 feet but isn't close to throwing off a mound.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson is worth stashing in AL-only leagues and maybe deeper mixed leagues. He's 35 years old, so temper your expectations on what you get when he returns.

Angels | C.J. Wilson still has a long road ahead

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 15:28:46 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is throwing this week but has still not moved beyond 60 feet. He still has a long way to go in his recovery.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, Wilson is as close to a fantasy afterthought as there is. He has already discussed converting to a reliever, and he is nowhere near returning to the Angels. Perhaps, he is a stash candidate in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues, but Wilson shouldn't be a roster priority.

Angels | C.J. Wilson to drop arm slot

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 10:37:17 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder), who is dealing with shoulder tendinitis, will drop his arm slot when he resumes throwing. Wilson said he thinks he'll need "at least" a month to prepare himself to pitch in major league games. Wilson is now doing shoulder exercises six days a week.

Fantasy Tip: Although it's unlikely to happen, Wilson is willing to pitch out of the bullpen when he returns, if necessary. There's no guarantee a lower arm slot will help Wilson become less hittable. His control is his best asset, but he doesn't miss enough bats these days to be considered for mixed leagues.

Angels | C.J. Wilson open to bullpen role

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 16:08:38 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is willing to pitch out of the bullpen if it is what is best for the team.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson battled a shoulder injury all spring and is currently on the disabled list. He was hardly fantasy relevant over the past two years (4.24 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 7.6 K/9) in the majority of leagues, so a move to the bullpen could prove beneficial. At this point, Wilson is nothing more than a speculative stash option in cavernous mixed and AL-only formats.

Angels | C.J. Wilson placed on DL

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 14:18:27 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) was placed on the disabled list Sunday, April 3, with left shoulder inflammation.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson hasn't been right all spring and was already struggling to be relevant in fantasy over the past two seasons anyway. There is no timetable for his return to the rotation, which will give Matt Shoemaker a chance to bounce back after a rough 2015. Both players can be left on waivers in casual leagues at the moment.

Angels | C.J. Wilson update

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 13:41:41 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) will be shut down for the rest of spring training, and it's unknown when he will return, but he won't be back before May.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson's season is off to a bad start, but he shouldn't have really been a target in mixed leagues to begin with. His injury opens up a spot for Tyler Skaggs, Matt Shoemaker or Nick Tropeano. Skaggs and Tropeano are intriguing youngsters that are worth a look as a late-round flier in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Shoemaker is likely to start in the minors.

Angels | C.J. Wilson not throwing at all

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 10:39:46 -0700

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) is not throwing right now and is still eight to 10 days away from being able to do so. As a result, he's a long way off.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Wilson is certain to begin the year on the disabled list, and it could be a lengthy stay at this rate. While he's coming off a decent 2015, the veteran southpaw is absolutely someone not to draft in just about all leagues, as he's clearly been trending down for a couple of seasons now. In the process, this should pave the way for Matt Shoemaker, Nick Tropeano or Tyler Skaggs to take his spot in the rotation. Shoemaker is someone to avoid also but Tropeano and Skaggs have potential, so keep an eye on the latter two.

Angels | C.J. Wilson to begin season on DL

Fri, 18 Mar 2016 17:29:00 -0700

Updating previous reports, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson (shoulder) continues to throw on flat ground and hasn't been cleared to resume throwing from a mound. He will begin the season on the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Wilson has been bothered all spring by left shoulder tendinitis and has experienced decreased velocity over the last few seasons due to various injuries. Although the 35-year-old southpaw went 8-8 with a 3.89 ERA in 21 starts last season, he should be avoided in shallow mixed leagues because of his injury history.
