Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez drawing interest

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 16:50:34 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez is drawing interest from teams as the trade deadline nears. Interested teams view Rodriguez as a fallback option if they aren't able to land a big-name starting pitcher. SPs Nick Martinez or Chi Chi Gonzalez could move back into the rotation if Rodriguez is dealt away.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has been a nice surprise for Texas (6-4, 4.07 ERA, 1.45 WHIP), but he's still only a fantasy commodity in very deep mixed and AL-only leagues. However, a trade out of Texas to a more pitcher-friendly home park could make him more attractive.

Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez could be dealt

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 19:37:36 -0700

The Texas Rangers have a glut of starting pitcher, so SP Wandy Rodriguez could be moved by the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, according to major league sources.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,900; or 9.8% of cap) has re-emerged as a useful FantasyScore option, particularly on the road. He is 5-0 with a 2.23 ERA with 42 strikeouts over 48 1/3 innings, while going 0-4 with a 7.42 ERA in six starts at home. He probably wants to get traded, too, as he doesn't look comfortable at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez lit up at home

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 05:18:38 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez fell to 0-4 in six home starts this season Saturday, July 4. Rodriguez has a 7.42 ERA at home.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) is 5-0 on the road, which makes him a very disappointing FantasyScore asset. While his home/road splits are bound to even out eventually, Rodriguez has a 4.28 xFIP, and he's not usually worth FantasyScore consideration.

Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez is a road warrior

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 21:36:54 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez allowed one run while scattering eight hits over five-plus innings with seven strikeouts in a road win against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, June 29. He is 5-0 with a 2.23 ERA in eight road outings this season.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,900; or 9.8% of cap) has re-emerged as a respectable FantasyScore option, especially when he is pitching on the road.

Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez has been solid

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 10:19:12 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his last six starts and has given up just three earned runs or fewer in each of those appearances. He has never faced the Oakland Athletics, who he will pitch against Wednesday, June 24.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) has been a godsend to the Texas rotation and has really helped fantasy owners in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. He'll be a risk/reward play on FantasyScore tonight while pitching in hitter-friendly Globe Life Park. However, the A's rank 28th in baseball with a .631 OPS against left-handers.

Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez solid in 6-plus

Thu, 21 May 2015 19:50:04 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez picked up his second win of the season Thursday, May 21, against the Boston Red Sox. Rodriguez held the Red Sox to four hits, two walks and one run, while striking out five over six and two-third innings.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) allowed just a single run for the fourth time in six starts this season. With a 7.71 strikeout ratio, Rodriguez can be a sneaky GPP play on FantasyScore, but he comes with risk of an implosion.

Rangers | Wandy Rodriguez set to start Friday

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 16:41:40 -0700

Texas Rangers SP Wandy Rodriguez will start against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, April 24.

Fantasy Tip: Right-handed batters Mike Trout and Albert Pujols are reason enough to avoid southpaw Rodriguez in all formats Friday. At best, Rodriguez is a desperation start in a favorable matchup, but the Angels don't qualify Friday. And that is if he even sticks in the rotation for another start.

Braves | Eric Stults likely No. 5

Fri, 03 Apr 2015 09:37:55 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Eric Stults has likely won the fifth starter spot after the team released SP Wandy Rodriguez Friday, April 3.

Fantasy Tip: Stults has very marginal fantasy value, but the 35-year-old lefty could have upside in ripe matchups on FantasyScore.

Braves | Wandy Rodriguez wins rotation spot

Fri, 20 Mar 2015 14:25:09 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Wandy Rodriguez has been penciled in as the fourth starter, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Fantasy Tip: The 36-year-old lefty has pitched just 89 1/3 innings over the past two years, and he returned an atrocious 6.75 ERA over his six starts and 26 2/3 innings last season. He has low-end appeal in NL-only formats, but at this point, Rodriguez doesn't tip the scales in mixed formats.

Braves | Wandy Rodriguez effective in spring

Sun, 15 Mar 2015 13:18:04 -0700

Atlanta Braves SP Wandy Rodriguez has been effective in spring camp, with one earned run in eight innings pitched over three Grapefruit League starts.

Fantasy Tip: Rodriguez only has a $2 million deal and could have an inside track on a rotation spot with Mike Minor's injury issues and Mike Foltynewicz appearing like he isn't ready. Still, the Braves may get cold feet. Should Rodriguez crack the rotation, he may be worth a late-round flier.
