Patriots | Questionable tag for Tom Brady

Fri, 02 Dec 2016 13:50:07 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) has been limited in practice each of the last two days after sitting out Wednesday, Nov. 30, but he is fully expected to play against the Los Angeles Rams despite being listed as questionable on the Week 13 injury report.

Fantasy Tip: Brady's fantasy stock takes a hit with Rob Gronkowski out, but the Patriots still have more than enough weapons to keep their quarterback among the elite plays in fantasy most weeks, which he should be again this weekend.

Thu, 01 Dec 2016 17:14:16 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Dec. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Brady missed practice on Wednesday, but this session should ensure he suits up on Sunday versus the Rams. As is always the case, the future Hall-of-Famer will be one of the top QB1 options on the board.

Patriots | Tom Brady not on the field

Wed, 30 Nov 2016 11:10:32 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) is not participating in practice Wednesday, Nov. 30.

Fantasy Tip: Brady is resting his injured knee but should be able to play in Week 13. He has thrown for at least 280 yards in each of his last four games and has six touchdowns in the last two games. He is a must-start option in all fantasy leagues no matter the matchup.

Patriots | Tom Brady feeling better

Mon, 28 Nov 2016 09:03:06 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) told The Kirk and Callahan radio show his injured knee feels better Monday, Nov. 28, than it did a week ago.

Fantasy Tip: Brady has a mediocre fantasy day in Week 12 by his standards and was particularly sluggish in the first half, but he still came in the clutch to lead the Patriots on a go-ahead touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter. There a near 100 percent chance he'll be listed as questionable on the Week 13 injury report, but owners should fully expect him to perform like a QB1 against the Los Angeles Rams next weekend.

Patriots | Tom Brady surpasses milestone

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 22:54:56 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) picked up his 200th career win in the Week 12 game against the New York Jets, and he also surpassed the 60,000-yard mark for his career. He is the fourth quarterback to reach the plateau. He finished with 30 completions on 50 attempts for 286 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Brady was clearly not 100 percent and without Rob Gronkowski for a majority of the game, but he still persevered. He remains a must-start fantasy option through thick and thin. In Week 13 he'll face a Los Angeles Rams pass defense which was trampled in their game in New Orleans.

Sun, 27 Nov 2016 06:36:32 -0800

Fantasy Tip: Brady was a limited practice participant Friday, Nov. 25, after missing the first two sessions of the week, and was listed as questionable on the injury report. However, he has a very favorable matchup this afternoon and should be considered an elite QB1 in all fantasy formats.

Patriots | Tom Brady expected to play Week 12

Sat, 26 Nov 2016 09:49:16 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) is expected to play Week 12 against the New York Jets, but he will be a game-time decision and his status will be determined after watching him warm up.

Fantasy Tip: Multiple sources have suggested the Patriots have little to no concern over Brady's status, so this is one rare occasion in which owners probably don't need to make a roster move to secure a backup quarterback. Jimmy Garoppolo would start if Brady misses his first game due to injury since 2007 and should be considered a low-end QB1 if he does. Conversely, Brady will be an elite QB1 with a great matchup if he goes as expected.

Patriots | Tom Brady listed as questionable

Fri, 25 Nov 2016 13:17:41 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) got in a limited practice Friday, Nov. 25, after sitting out back-to-back practices for the first time since 2010. Brady has been listed as questionable for Week 12 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: It would be a shock if Brady missed a game due to injury for the first time since 2007, but this game's late afternoon start means owners need to at least consider a backup plan. In the likely event Brady plays, he needs to be considered an elite QB1.

Patriots | Tom Brady returns to practice

Fri, 25 Nov 2016 08:37:56 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) returned to practice Friday, Nov. 25.

Fantasy Tip: The New York Jets have been tough on opposing QBs the last five weeks, but that doesn't really matter to Brady and the Pats' unstoppable engine. He remains an elite play in Week 12.

Patriots | No practice for Tom Brady

Thu, 24 Nov 2016 13:58:06 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) did not practice Thursday, Nov. 24.

Fantasy Tip: The more Brady misses practice the more his Week 12 status becomes a concern. Of course, a veteran with Brady's experience and injuries can definitely still play even without practice. Assuming he's active, he's a QB1 candidate in any matchup.

Patriots | Tom Brady does not practice

Wed, 23 Nov 2016 14:15:41 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Brady probably will be able to play this week, but owners should check on his status later in the week. He is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and should be a starting in all leagues if he is active.

Sun, 20 Nov 2016 22:20:45 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 24 of his 40 pass attempts for 280 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 11 game against the San Francisco 49ers. He also rushed four times for 12 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Brady did a pretty good job considering the weather was sloppy and he came in with a right quadriceps injury. He has 16 touchdowns and just one interception in six games since returning from suspension. He'll look to keep up the good play in Week 12 at N.Y. Jets.

Patriots | Tom Brady not on injury report

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 15:06:52 -0800

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (thigh) fully participated in practice and is not on the injury report for Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: Brady was roughed up in the team's Week 10 game but will be fine for the game against the San Francisco 49ers. He should be a starting option in all fantasy leagues.

Wed, 16 Nov 2016 11:12:02 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (thigh) was participating during the media access portion of practice Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Fantasy Tip: Brady should be able to play in Week 11 and will be an attractive option for owners because of the favorable matchup. He can be a starting No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Tom Brady has thigh issue

Tue, 15 Nov 2016 08:44:13 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (thigh) said he suffered a thigh injury in Week 10, but he is expected to play in Week 11.

Fantasy Tip: A thigh injury for the Patriots could be anything from a contusion to a torn quadriceps. OK, there is mostly sarcasm there. Brady should be fine to start against the struggling San Francisco 49ers this week.

Patriots | Tom Brady doesn't do much

Sun, 13 Nov 2016 22:28:29 -0800

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 23 of his 32 pass attempts for 316 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 10 game against the Seattle Seahawks. He also ran five times for just seven yards.

Fantasy Tip: The yardage total was nice, but the lack of touchdowns crushed fantasy owners. It was no surprise considering the Patriots were playing against a top-flight defense. He'll look for better results in Week 11 against San Francisco's leaky defense.

Patriots | Four TDs for Tom Brady

Sun, 30 Oct 2016 15:25:24 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady threw for four touchdowns in a 41-25 win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Oct. 30. Brady finished 22-for-33 for 315 yards.

Fantasy Tip: In short, it was another solid performance for Brady, who should be at the top of all QB boards. He especially enjoys facing the Bills; Brady is 26-3 against Buffalo.

Sat, 22 Oct 2016 09:29:27 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has 24 touchdowns versus three interceptions in 10 career meetings versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, including the playoffs. Over his last five starts against them, he has 17 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Brady has come out of the gates red-hot following his four-game suspension and doesn't appear likely to cool down against the Steelers. Armed with his best supporting cast in years, Brady is a candidate to finish as the top fantasy quarterback virtually every week. Start him.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 29 of his 35 pass attempts for 376 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 6 game against the Cincinnati Bengals in his regular season home debut.

Fantasy Tip: Brady has passed for 782 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions in two games since returning from a four-game suspension. Needless to say, he is back and worth using in all fantasy formats heading into Week 7 against a Pittsburgh Steelers pass defense susceptible to the big play.

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 14:24:14 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady threw for 406 yards and three touchdowns Sunday, Oct. 9, in a 33-13 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Tip: Any doubts about shakiness or ineffectiveness after a longer absence were thrown out the window in the first half. Tom Brady is Tom Brady and is a must start in any fantasy format. Enough said.

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 11:30:12 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady went 18-for-25 for 271 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against the Cleveland Browns in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Brady is playing in his first game of the 2016 season and has not shown any rust in his return. He is a must-start option in all fantasy leagues as long as he is healthy.

Sun, 09 Oct 2016 08:07:41 -0700

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) will serve as the backup quarterback to Tom Brady for Week 5's game against the Cleveland Browns.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady was activated to the active roster Saturday, Oct. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Brady will be the starting quarterback for the Patriots moving forward and has a favorable matchup in his 2016 debut. He may have to shake off a little bit of rusty but is a must-start option in all fantasy leagues.

Patriots | Tom Brady to play catch with Wes Welker

Sat, 17 Sep 2016 06:52:34 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will play catch with former NFL WR Wes Welker, in order to remain in football shape during his four-game suspension. He is prohibited from working out or having contact with current teammates and coaches.

Fantasy Tip: Brady will be eligible to return from his suspension during Week 5's game against the Browns Oct. 9, and will regain the starting job regardless of how well QB Jimmy Garoppolo plays in his absence. The 39-year-old veteran should continue to be viewed as a QB1 when he comes back, although fantasy owners shouldn't be surprised if he displays a little rust in his first appearance versus Cleveland.

Cowboys | Dak Prescott staying as starter?

Mon, 12 Sep 2016 00:25:46 -0700

Prior to the first game of the season, suggestions were made that Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott could unseat QB Tony Romo (back) as the starter if Prescott played well enough. Sources indicate Romo's job could be up for grabs, much the same way New England Patriots QB Tom Brady took it from QB Drew Bledsoe in 2001.

Fantasy Tip: Prescott has to do well enough to unseat Romo first, as he completed 56 percent of his passes and threw no touchdowns or interceptions in a 20-19 loss to the New York Giants. Monitor the situation closely before pushing the panic button. At the least, pick up Prescott if you have Romo.

Patriots | Tom Brady plays entire first half

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 18:04:08 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady played the entire first half of the team's preseason finale Thursday, September 1, against the New York Giants. Brady completed 16-of-26 passes for 166 yards, to go along with one touchdown and one interception. He also registered two rushes for nine yards.

Fantasy Tip: While it might seem a little peculiar that the Patriots would allow their face of the franchise to play all 39 first-half snaps in a meaningless preseason contest, it should also be noted that this would essentially be his final game action until Week 5, when he is eligible to return from his suspension. Although Brady posted an unspectacular stat line, this probably has zero bearing on how he'll look when he's ready to step back under center following his four-game absence to begin the campaign.

Patriots | Tom Brady to start Thursday

Thu, 01 Sep 2016 10:59:54 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will be the starting quarterback for the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1. It is not known how much he will play during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Brady will miss the first four games of the regular season, so the team is giving him a few more snaps before he sits out for a month. Brady will be a No. 1 fantasy quarterback when he returns and should be a middle-round option in all leagues.

Wed, 31 Aug 2016 16:52:07 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady may receive some snaps with the first-team offense during the final preseason game Thursday, Sept. 1, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Brady will miss the first four games of the season but likely would not receive much playing time if he plays Thursday. Brady should still be a solid No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues, but owners will need a solid backup to use while Brady is out.

Patriots | Chris Hogan stands out

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 21:12:47 -0700

New England Patriots WR Chris Hogan caught five passes for a game-high 62 yards and scored on a 33-yard pass from QB Tom Brady in a 19-17 preseason win over the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 26.

Fantasy Tip: Scoop Hogan up as a WR4. Given the injury history of New England's current group of receivers, Hogan could end up being one of Tom Brady's top targets at various time throughout the year.

Patriots | Uneven debut for Tom Brady

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 18:29:16 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady made his preseason debut Friday, Aug. 26, completing three of his nine passes for 76 yards and a touchdown against the Carolina Panthers.

Fantasy Tip: Brady's four-game suspension should keep him on the board well into the middle rounds. He should still be a QB1 when he returns, but you have to be prepared to draft another quality quarterback to bridge the gap.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo expected to start Friday

Fri, 26 Aug 2016 14:16:28 -0700

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to be the starting quarterback in the preseason game against the Carolina Panthers Friday, Aug. 26. QB Tom Brady will also receive playing time during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Garoppolo needs to prepare for the start of the regular season and will be able to work with the starting offense for a while Friday. Brady should still be a No. 1 quarterback in all leagues despite his suspension, but owners will need a strong backup quarterback. Garoppolo should be a No. 2 fantasy quarterback that could be used by owners against favorable matchups.

Patriots | Tom Brady returns to practice

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 05:41:54 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 23, after two days of excused absences for non-injury related reasons.

Fantasy Tip: Brady is suspended for the first four games of the regular season. However, he could do more with 12 games than most could with 16 in fantasy. He's at the bottom of the midrange tier of quarterbacks.

Patriots | Tom Brady's agent talks thumb injury

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 19:20:50 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (thumb) will be "okay in time," according to his agent, Don Yee.

Fantasy Tip: The description is vague, but it would have to be a serious injury for Brady to not be ready when he returns from his four-game suspension. Expect him to put up QB1 numbers when he returns, but don't reach for him at the expense of another player who will provide 16-games of quality production.

Patriots | Tom Brady slices right thumb

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 17:49:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady (thumb) sliced his right thumb with a pair of scissors prior to the club's preseason game Thursday, August 18, against the Chicago Bears. Brady was trying to pry something from the bottom of his cleat prior to taking the field and sustained the cut. It's not known whether or not he needed stitches but he was seen leaving the stadium in regular clothes.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like a minor injury, though the extent of the cut is still not yet known. It could be a little concerning, however, considering that it happened on his throwing hand. Regardless, Brady isn't slated to begin his season until Week 5, so he'll have plenty of time to heal from this uncharacteristic gaffe. It would be interesting to see if this would affect his Week 1 availability if he wasn't suspended for the first quarter of the year.

Patriots | Tom Brady not on the field

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 16:52:58 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has not been spotted on the field prior to the team's preseason game Thursday, August 18, against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Tip: There were reports that Brady might get some work in tonight's contest, but now it appears that won't be the case. Either way, this isn't injury-related. With Brady apparently out for the night, this should result in more work for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Patriots | Tom Brady to play Thursday

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 11:47:23 -0700

Correcting a previous report, New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will play in the preseason game against the Chicago Bears Thursday, Aug. 18, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Brady probably will only receive a series or two during the game but probably will see more playing time in the third preseason game. Brady should be a No. 1 quarterback in most leagues, but owners will need a replacement for the first four weeks of the season.

Patriots | Tom Brady may not play Thursday

Thu, 18 Aug 2016 10:08:41 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady may not play in the preseason game against the Chicago Bears Thursday, Aug. 18, and would only see limited snaps if he does play.

Fantasy Tip: Brady does not need many snaps during the preseason since he knows the offense, and the team needs to prepare Jimmy Garoppolo for the first four games of the season. Brady should still be considered a No. 1 quarterback in all leagues, but owners will need a strong backup to use in the first four weeks.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo fairly accurate

Thu, 11 Aug 2016 07:50:23 -0700

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo is 158-for-231 (68.3%) with six interceptions in team drills through 12 practices. QB Tom Brady is 155-for-213 (72.7%) with four interceptions.

Fantasy Tip: Garoppolo is a QB2 in fantasy that you could consider in a good matchup the first four weeks if your starter goes down. Brady is at the bottom of the midrange of starting quarterbacks because he's missing four games. He still has more upside than most, though.

Wed, 10 Aug 2016 21:47:24 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will sit out the preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 11, against the New Orleans Saints, according to a source. QB Jimmy Garoppolo will get the start.

Fantasy Tip: Makes sense. Brady is out for the first four games due to suspension, so Garoppolo will get a chance to work with the first-team offense in game situations to get ready for the first four games of the regular season. Brady remains a QB1 in all fantasy leagues for when he returns in Week 5.

Fri, 05 Aug 2016 15:54:54 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed all 25 of his pass attempts during an intrasquad scrimmage Friday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Brady is still receiving plenty of work during training camp even though he will be missing the first four games of the 2016 season. Brady should still be considered a mid-range No. 1 quarterback because he will have plenty of weapons to work with when he returns.

Patriots | Tom Brady, Jimmy Garoppolo share snaps

Thu, 28 Jul 2016 11:04:13 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady received the first snaps during quarterback drills and seven-on-seven drills during practice Thursday, July 28, while QB Jimmy Garoppolo received the first snaps during 11-on-11 drills. Garoppolo went 11-for-14 during the team drills, while Brady went 8-for-14.

Fantasy Tip: Both Brady and Garoppolo will receive work during training camp even though Brady likely will be suspended for the first four games of the season. Brady should still be considered a solid No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues despite the suspension. Garoppolo can be a matchup play in some leagues but probably should be seen as a No. 2 quarterback.

Patriots | Tom Brady will remain starter

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 09:08:12 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will return as the starting quarterback when he returns, according to head coach Bill Belichick.

Fantasy Tip: It's laughable to suggest otherwise, so there's no surprise here. Brady slips a few spots due to his four-game suspension, but he sits at the bottom of the midrange QB1 area in fantasy. Jimmy Garoppolo is a matchup play the first month, and he's a QB2 in fantasy.

Patriots | Tom Brady can't work with teammates

Sun, 24 Jul 2016 07:23:13 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady will be prohibited from engaging in any football-related activities or discussions during the course of his four-game suspension, even if he is away from the team facility, according to NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy. The ban also prohibits Brady from attending games and practices as a spectator and receiving game and practice film from club personnel.

Fantasy Tip: Brady is still expected to see a good deal of repetitions with the first-team offense during training camp before his suspension goes into effect Sept. 3, and he won't rejoin the Patriots until Oct. 3, prior to the team's Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns. The 38-year-old is still capable of putting up solid numbers and should be viewed as a midrange option at the position, although he could remain on the draft board later than normal due to the suspension.

Patriots | First-team reps for Tom Brady

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 12:23:32 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady should still receive a good amount of first-team repetitions during training camp despite his four-game suspension. QB Jimmy Garoppolo could then take the majority of first-team reps once preseason ramps up, according to ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss.

Fantasy Tip: Brady will miss a quarter of the regular season due to the suspension, but he's still Tom Brady, and he can still put up gaudy numbers for the remaining 12 games. One might be able to steal him later than usual in fantasy drafts.

Patriots | Tom Brady ends appeal

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 10:06:03 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady announced he will have no further action with the legal process against the NFL in appealing his four-game suspension.

Fantasy Tip: So that's it, DeflateGate has ended. Jimmy Garoppolo will start the first four games of the season, and Brady will be eligible for Week 5 against the Cleveland Browns. Garoppolo will face the Arizona Cardinals, Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills, which all feature capable defenses. He's nothing more than an injury replacement as a QB2 in fantasy. Brady falls to the bottom of the midrange at the position.

Patriots | Appeals court rejects Tom Brady

Wed, 13 Jul 2016 06:54:01 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady had his request for a new hearing on his four-game suspension rejected by a federal appeals court Wednesday, July 13. Brady was asking for the full 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case. Brady's remaining hope is to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Fantasy Tip: There seems to be pessimism looming on Brady's status for the first four games. There is a chance that he could use measures to extend the ordeal to the 2017 season. If Brady misses the first four games, he'll slide down a couple of notches in the fantasy pecking order, but he'd still remain in the midrange of the position. Jimmy Garoppolo would be an injury-replacement option the first four weeks if the suspension stands.

Patriots | Tom Brady looking like himself

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 14:42:13 -0700

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has looked great this offseason, according to TE Rob Gronkowski. He looks the same every day that I've been here. He's always coming out with a competitive edge," Gronkowski said. "His arm always looks strong. His football knowledge, you don't have to talk about it, it's second to none. He looks very sharp."

Fantasy Tip: Brady will likely give way to Jimmy Garoppolo for the first four games of the season, but he's still not a bad low-end QB1 to high-end QB2 option for the season as a whole.

Patriots | Jimmy Garoppolo works with starters

New England Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo split first-team reps QB Tom Brady during a three-day minicamp, and WR Nate Washington said that Garoppolo understands the offense.

Fantasy Tip: Garoppolo could be forced into action with Brady facing a four-game suspension. His long-term value is limited, but he could be a potential DFS sleeper if Brady does miss games.
