The team waived RB Edwin Baker, OG Colin Baxter, OT Charlie Bryant, LB Ricky Elmore, LB Darryl Gamble, CB Gregory Gatson, DE Logan Harrell, CB Arthur Hobbs, QB Jarrett Lee, P Robert Malone, CB De'Andre Presley, DE Damik Scafe, OF Stephen Schilling, TE Kory Sperry and WR Mike Willie. The team also placed SS Sean Cattouse (undisclosed) on Injured Reserve.

Chargers | Not willing to have two kickers on roster in 2012

The San Diego Chargers have both PKs Nate Kaeding (knee) and Nick Novak under contract through 2012, but the team is unwilling to roster both during the season, according to team sources. Kaeding is ahead of schedule in his recovery, and he said last week that he expects to resume kicking field goals again late in January. Kaeding said he doesn't anticipate camp competition, but that's exactly what might happen with the two.

It is believed Kaeding thinks he should get his job back after missing most of the season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The United Football League would not allow Florida Tuskers kicker Nick Novak to sign with an unidentified NFL team, a source told Aaron Wilson, of NationalFootballPost.com. The Tuskers were willing to grant Novak his release and the NFL team was willing to pay a $150,000 release fee, but UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue denied the move.

Gary Fitzgerald, of Redskins.com, reports Washington Redskins PK Shaun Suisham was pleased with his performance last season despite being added to the roster in early December. "I'm disappointed the season ended because I loved being out there and I felt like I could continue to get better," Suisham said, who won a midseason competition with PK Nick Novak for the kicking job. "From that standpoint, I wish I would have been here at the start of the year, but it doesn't always work that way." Suisham converted 8-of-9 field goals last year but is expected to face competition in training camp for next season.

Howard Bryant, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs has not ruled out the possibility of conducting a tryout Tuesday, Nov. 28, to find a replacement for PK Nick Novak. Novak is 5-for-10 in field goal attempts and has struggled with short kickoffs. Gibbs said, "It's a matter of us evaluating things. We work hard with Nick, and he's a hard worker. But for all of us, Nick will tell you, he needs to be consistent. He has won a game for us and that stuck in my mind. It's a matter of someone who will be productive."

Redskins | Novak sinks Dallas with second chance on field goal

The Associated Press reports Washington Redskins PK Nick Novak was given two chances during the Week 9 game to kick a winning field goal against the Dallas Cowboys. Novak missed his first chance from 49 yards with 31 seconds to go in the game. Cowboys PK Mike Vanderjagt attempted to kick a 35-yard field goal with six seconds left, but the field goal was blocked by Redskins S Troy Vincent and S Sean Taylor returned it into Dallas territory. A 15-yard facemask penalty on Cowboys OG Kyle Kosier allowed for one more play with no time left on the clock. Novak made the 47-yard field goal to beat the Cowboys 22-19.
