Texans | Texans bring back Nick Novak

Tue, 07 Mar 2017 18:30:51 -0800

Houston Texans impending free-agent PK Nick Novak re-signed with the team Tuesday, March 7, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Believe it or not, Novak was one of Houston's most valuable players last season, making the second-most field goals in all of football (35) and converting on 85.4 percent of his attempts. If Brock Osweiler remains the starter under center, the Texans should have plenty of drives stall in field-goal range, which should help Novak sustain his usefulness in 2017.

Tue, 23 Aug 2016 14:59:22 -0700

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak (concussion) cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and returned to practice Tuesday, Aug. 23.

Texans | Nick Novak in concussion protocol

Sun, 21 Aug 2016 13:11:56 -0700

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak (concussion) is in the NFL's concussion protocol.

Fantasy Tip: Novak hasn't even technically won the starting kicker position yet, but he's probably still the favorite. Kickers are a dime a dozen, but Novak would be in low-end PK1 range if he does start.

Texans | Nick Novak looking to keep job

Mon, 13 Jun 2016 15:53:25 -0700

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak will try to hold off PK Ka'imi Fairbairn for the kicker job during the minicamp and training camp. Novak did not miss any kicks from inside 50 yards in 2015, while Fairbairn has a strong leg and would help field positions during kickoffs.

Fantasy Tip: Novak likely is the leading candidate for the job but could lose it to Fairbairn if he struggles during preseason. He should be considered a mid-range starting kicker in fantasy leagues if he wins the job.

Texans | Nick Novak re-signs with Houston

Mon, 07 Mar 2016 07:56:49 -0800

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak re-signed an undisclosed deal with the Texans Monday, March 7.

Fantasy Tip: Novak made 18 of his 21 field goal attempts last season in his first year with Houston, and he's always been more of an underrated booter. Consider him a low-end fantasy kicking option on draft day.

Texans | Nate Washington, Nick Novak probable

Fri, 20 Nov 2015 13:34:59 -0800

Houston Texans WR Nate Washington (hip) and PK Nick Novak (thigh) both practiced in full Friday, Nov. 20, and are probable for Week 11 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Tip: Now that it's official that T.J. Yates is starting under center for Houston against a very capable defense, neither Washington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) nor Novak are very attractive to fantasy owners this weekend.

Texans | Nick Novak, Nate Washington full go

Thu, 19 Nov 2015 13:29:22 -0800

Houston Texans PK Nick Novak (thigh) and WR Nate Washington (hip) both participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 19.

Fantasy Tip: Washington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has been inconsistent throughout the 2015 season, and T.J. Yates will start this week, which gives less value to Houston's offense as a whole, including Novak . Use discretion with these guys in Week 11.

Texans | Nate Washington, Nick Novak practice

Wed, 18 Nov 2015 14:56:25 -0800

Houston Texans WR Nate Washington (hip) and PK Nick Novak (thigh) both practiced in full Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Fantasy Tip: With Brian Hoyer (concussion) questionable this week, Houston's offense could suffer in a full game with T.J. Yates at the helm, which would in turn hurt the fantasy value of both Washington ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) and Novak. Washington had only two catches last Monday and has been inconsistent anyway.

Texans | Houston signs Nick Novak

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:13:48 -0700

Free-agent PK Nick Novak (Chargers) will sign with the Houston Texans Tuesday, Sept. 29. PK Randy Bullock was released.

Fantasy Tip: Novak has immediate fantasy value, especially with favorable matchups. If your kicker has been disappointing so far, picking up Novak is worth a shot.

Texans | Houston auditioning kickers

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 05:50:24 -0700

Free-agent PKs Nick Novak (Chargers), Kai Forbath (Redskins), Chris Boswell (Giants), Connor Barth (Buccaneers) and Giorgio Tavecchio (Raiders) are auditioning for the Houston Texans Tuesday, Sept. 29, according to sources. Texans PK Randy Bullock missed a 43-yard field goal and an extra point during the Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: Bullock is clearly on the hot seat, but the tryout may also just be a means of motivating the incumbent, too. Seasonal players will want to take a wait-and-see approach and stay the course until there is an official announcement. The Texans are averaging two field goal attempts per game through the first three weeks of the season, and the Houston defense projects favorably most weeks, so the job has value, especially in the right matchups.

Eagles | Philly working out kickers

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 11:13:27 -0700

Free-agent PKs Billy Cundiff (Panthers), Nick Novak (Chargers) and Caleb Sturgis (Dolphins) are among the kickers that are working out for the Philadelphia Eagles Monday, Sept. 28. PK Cody Parkey (groin) is dealing with a groin injury.

Fantasy Tip: Parkey may not be able to play in Week 4 against the Washington Redskins, so the team may have to sign another kicker. Owners probably should avoid whoever the kicker is for the Eagles since their offense has struggled.

Saints | NO not signing Nick Novak

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 11:58:51 -0700

Free-agent PK Nick Novak (Chargers) won't be signed by the New Orleans Saints at this time. They could in the near future, however, if PK Zach Hocker struggles.

Fantasy Tip: There are better options at kicker Hocker, but either he or Novak could be worth a pickup if one of them cements themselves as the starting kicker.

Saints | Nick Novak to work out for Saints

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 05:26:03 -0700

Free-agent PK Nick Novak (Chargers) will work out for the New Orleans Saints Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Novak has the potential to be a worthwhile pickup off waivers if he lands in New Orleans. He should have opportunities to score and would have a dome as his home.

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 11:34:29 -0700

San Diego Chargers PK Nick Novak was released Saturday, Sept. 5, according to a source. Rookie PK Josh Lambo is expected to start.
