Mariners | Robinson Cano has stomach problems

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 11:42:12 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (stomach) said he has been battling stomach problems since last August, and he's also enduring one of the worst seasons of his career in 2015. Cano has a .248 average with just five home runs and 27 RBI despite an 8-for-20 surge recently. His on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of .652 is almost 200 points below his career average. He said he was told he had a common parasite last October and was treated with antibiotics, but he has been left with acid reflux. Cano also dealt with the death of his grandfather in March. He has eliminated red meat from his diet, but despite a change in his eating habits and medication, Cano's stomach problems persist. "Sometimes I play without any strength or energy, but you have to play, give the best of yourself," Cano said. "Some people may say, 'Cano, he's listless.' But (the energy) is not the same." Cano's strikeout rate is up from 12% for his career to 17.5% this year, and his walk rate has dropped from 6.3% to 5%.

Fantasy Tip: Cano's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) down season likely has a lot to do with his stomach issues and lack of energy for games. Although he has gotten hot at the plate lately, there's no reason to believe he'll bounce back entirely if he has to continue dealing with acid reflux. However, buying low on Cano for the second half seems like a decent plan, especially since his batting average on balls in play (BAPIB) still remains prime for positive regression.

Mariners | Robinson Cano continues resurgence

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 05:31:00 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano went 3-for-5 with a run and a double during the Mariners 9-3 win over the Oakland Athletics Friday, July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) now sports a .302/.318/.524 slash line over his past 16 games with eight runs, three home runs and eight RBI. While a far cry from the production and expectations that come with being a high draft pick this spring, Cano is starting to pull it together. FantasyScore players will want to note his salary hasn't caught up with his recent play, and seasonal owners will want to note Cano has always been a better second-half player.

Mariners | Robinson Cano struggling against lefties

Thu, 02 Jul 2015 19:06:45 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is hitting .218 with .517 OPS against left-handed pitchers this season compared to .276 in the previous three seasons.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been having a down year overall, and he really shouldn't even be considered at FantasyScore right now when a lefty is on the hill.

Mariners | Robinson Cano in starting lineup

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 11:00:06 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (head) is in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Hector Santiago Sunday, June 28, and is batting third in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) suffered a head injury in the last game, but it looks like he is ready to play. He has picked up at least one hit in seven of his last nine games and has five RBI in that span. Owners on FantasyScore could consider using Cano while he is on his hot streak.

Mariners | Robinson Cano avoids concussion

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 18:57:30 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (head) suffered a deep bruise on his head after being hit in the head in the dugout by an errant throw Saturday, June 27. He did not suffer a concussion and is considered day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: With Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) likely to miss a game or two, Willie Bloomquist ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) is the likely beneficiary. However, he is hitting just .164 on the year and offers no value at FantasyScore.

Mariners | Robinson Cano hit in head in dugout

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 18:08:33 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (head) exited against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim after being hit in the head in the dugout by an errant throw in between innings Saturday, June 27.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) has been a huge disappointment this season, and even if he is able to return to the lineup Sunday, he doesn't need to be lineups at FantasyScore until his bat heats up.

Mariners | Robinson Cano hits fourth home run

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 06:19:09 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano hit a solo home run during the Mariners' 3-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Friday, June 26.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) cannot gain any traction at the plate this season, but it is his second homer over his past four games. He is also improving slightly with a .274/.303/.484 slash line over his past 16 outings. Still, it is a far cry from the lofty expectations during draft season. In favorable matchups, FantasyScore players can take a gamble on the second baseman given his low salary.

Mariners | Robinson Cano on a hot streak

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 17:27:59 -0700

Entering play Wednesday, June 24, Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano had collected 10 hits in his last 29 at-bats, with his season batting average increasing from .235 to .246. He also has RBIs in four of his last six games and eight extra-base hits in his last 14 contests.

Fantasy Tip: Despite Cano's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) recent offensive outburst, he is still hitting 64 points below his career average entering this season. FantasyScore owners will want to take advantage of his hot streak for as long as it continues.

Mariners | Robinson Cano back in lineup

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 16:50:59 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (back) is in the starting lineup against Houston Astros SP Lance McCullers Friday, June 19.

Fantasy Tip: Cano ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) was scratched from the lineup in the last game but is ready to return. Cano has struggled this month with a .194 batting average and four RBI. Owners may want to look at other options until Cano is able to turn things around at the plate.

Mariners | Robinson Cano scratched late

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 17:57:53 -0700

Seattle Mariners 2B Robinson Cano (back) is a late scratch Thursday, June 18, against the San Francisco Giants, due to a stiff lower back. OF Dustin Ackley will start at second base against RHP Ryan Vogelsong.

Fantasy Tip: Ackley ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is not a FantasyScore option at all, and season-long owners will need to hold their breath for a Cano update.
