Cowboys | Kellen Moore not named starter yet

Sun, 20 Dec 2015 10:44:39 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Kellen Moore replaced QB Matt Cassel during the team's Week 15 game, but head coach Jason Garrett is not ready to name Moore the starting quarterback for the final two games of the season. Moore went 15-for-25 for 158 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel was benched after he struggled at the start of the game, but Moore did not do a whole lot better when he entered the game. Owners can monitor the situation to see who receives the start, but owners should avoid both players.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel benched

Sat, 19 Dec 2015 18:27:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel was benched against the New York Jets in Week 15 and replaced by QB Kellen Moore. Cassel completed four of his nine pass attempts for 36 yards and an interception before being replaced.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel was said to be on a short leash coming into the game, and his slow start sealed his fate. The Cowboys passing offense is a complete mess.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel on short leash

Sat, 19 Dec 2015 15:55:24 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel will start Saturday, Dec. 19, but he's on a short leash, according to sources. QB Kellen Moore saw first-team snaps this week and will be the backup.

Fantasy Tip: Avoid this situation altogether against the New York Jets Saturday night on FantasyScore.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel will start

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 13:35:01 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel will start in Week 15, according to head coach Jason Garrett.

Fantasy Tip: There was reason to think that Cassel could be benched after his dismal Week 14 performance. Plus, he's only thrown one touchdown in his last four games, and the schedule doesn't get easier as Dallas hosts the New York Jets next week. Continue to stay away from Cassel.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel does very little

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 22:44:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel completed 16 of his 29 pass attempts for 222 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in the Week 13 game against the Washington Redskins Monday, Dec. 7.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel did nothing to help FantasyScore owners who took a chance on him, and he did very little for Dez Bryant fantasy owners until the final few minutes, too. Cassel cannot be trusted for fantasy purposes in Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel the starter once again

Fri, 27 Nov 2015 14:35:17 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel is the starting quarterback again with QB Tony Romo (clavicle) out for the rest of the year. The Cowboys expect Romo to be 100% for the offseason program in March. QB Kellen Moore will likely be added off the practice squad to back up Cassel.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel was winless filling in for Romo earlier this season, and there's no reason to think that he'll drastically turn things around to close out the year. There's nothing to like about Cassel on FantasyScore, really, and you should look to downgrade the likes of Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley in the passing game, too.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel practices in full Friday

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 13:35:16 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel (knee) fully participated in practice Friday, Nov. 13, and he is listed as probable for the Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fantasy Tip: While Cassel ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) is coming off a three-touchdown, 299-yard performance last week, and the Buccaneers have allowed the second most passing touchdowns for the season, Cassel still carries plenty of risk in all fantasy formats. He is a viable No. 2 QB in two-quarterback leagues, and a potential source of cap relief at FantasyScore for Week 10.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel fully practices

Thu, 12 Nov 2015 17:02:43 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel (knee) fully participated in practice Thursday, Nov. 12.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) should receive another start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week. He is coming off a solid Week 9 performance when he threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns. Cassel has a favorable matchup this week and could be a cheaper option on FantasyScore if owners want to spend money at other positions.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel fully practices

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 13:44:06 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel (knee) participated fully in practice Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Fantasy Tip: This was the case for Cassel ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) last week too and he ended up playing, and playing well. He has a favorable matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have allowed the second-most passing touchdowns to quarterbacks this year (19).

Cowboys | Matt Cassel tosses three TDs

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 22:15:12 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel completed 25 of his 38 pass attempts for 299 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Week 9 game against the Philadelphia Eagles while also running twice for 17 yards.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) developed a nice rapport with Cole Beasley this week, and he also benefited by an increasingly healthy Dez Bryant. He could be a nice FantasyScore sleeper in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a team with a leaky pass defense.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel active for SNF

Sun, 08 Nov 2015 16:26:02 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel (knee) is active and starting in Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) was listed as probable for the game. Despite the fact he is attractive, and he has an attractive price tag, he isn't a great option in FantasyScore.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: ESPNDallas.com - Todd Archer

Cowboys | Dez Bryant, Matt Cassel probable

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 14:05:28 -0800

Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant (foot) and QB Matt Cassel (knee) are both listed as probable for Week 9 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Bryant was limited in practice Friday, Nov. 6, while Cassel was a full participant.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($8,400, 16.8% of cap) did very little in his return last week but faces a defense that allows the third-most PPR fantasy points (41.9) to receivers per week. It's a good bet that he improves, but it still may not be enough to offset his high price. Cassel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is a desperation attempt to save salary cap space on FantasyScore. That's about it.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel has full practice

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 16:05:40 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel (knee) participated fully in practice Thursday, Nov. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is one of those quarterbacks that are a risky start no matter who he's throwing against or what his price is, that includes the Philadelphia Eagles this week.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: NFL

Cowboys | Matt Cassel a full participant

Wed, 04 Nov 2015 16:38:03 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel (knee) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Nov. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been extremely disappointing, to put it lightly, since taking over as starter a couple weeks ago. He may be cheap for a quarterback on FantasyScore, but he's just not worth the risk.

Comment (0) | Share: Tweet!Share on Facebook | Source: NFL

Cowboys | Ugly performance for Matt Cassel

Sun, 01 Nov 2015 19:48:53 -0800

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel completed 13 of 25 passes for 97 yards and ran four times for 43 yards in a 13-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 8.

Fantasy Tip: Granted, the matchup was tough, but Cassell ($4,900, 9.8% of cap) couldn’t establish any type of vertical passing game. As long as he is starting, any member of the Dallas offense is a risky play at FantasyScore.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel will start in Week 7

Wed, 14 Oct 2015 09:19:47 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel is expected to start in Week 7 against the New York Giants when they return from their bye week, according to a league source. QB Brandon Weeden was informed by the coaching staff that Cassel will start against the Giants. Cassel recently said he is now comfortable with the play book and can execute the offense. Weeden went just 5-for-15 on passes thrown more than five yards down the field in a loss in Week 5.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) should give the Cowboys a better shot at stretching the field offensively, but he's unlikely to drastically increase the fantasy values of Dallas aerial weapons, mainly Terrance Williams. Cassel will be a low-end quarterback on FantasyScore for his season debut this year.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel could start Week 7

Tue, 13 Oct 2015 09:21:25 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel could start over QB Brandon Weeden in Week 7 against the New York Giants, according to executive vice president Stephen Jones.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is probably not an option to consider on FantasyScore after their Week 6 bye.

Cowboys | Matt Cassel to start Week 7?

Sun, 11 Oct 2015 22:54:15 -0700

Dallas Cowboys QB Matt Cassel could get a chance in Week 7 after the team's bye, as head coach Jason Garrett said Sunday, Oct. 11, he will evaluate a quarterback change during the team's bye week.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) could provide a spark for the flagging Dallas offense, and an added bonus would be the potential return of Dez Bryant to help out.

Cowboys | Dallas acquires Matt Cassel

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 15:33:24 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel was acquired by the Dallas Cowboys Tuesday, Sept. 22, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: The Cowboys needed some depth at quarterback with Tony Romo out for a while. Cassel gives them that. Brandon Weeden should still start, at least this week, as he is familiar with the Cowboys' offensive system and has experience playing in it. Weeden ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) isn't the most reliable quarterback, but he does have a nice matchup against the Atlanta Falcons this week. He's a sneaky start on FantasyScore.

Bills | Buffalo could keep three QBs

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 16:43:32 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel said the team has indicated that they will hold three quarterbacks on the roster heading into the regular season. Head coach Rex Ryan was vague on whether he will keep three quarterbacks. Cassel played in only four series in the preseason.

Fantasy Tip: Tyrod Taylor was named the starting quarterback heading into Week 1, but things could change quickly if he fails to deliver. He has the most upside for fantasy owners looking for a sleeper as a backup because of his athleticism and ability to gain chunks of yards with his legs.

Bills | Matt Simms might still make roster

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 19:35:27 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Simms is not believed to be in line to make the 53-man roster, and "the odds are stacked against" him according to head coach Rex Ryan. However, if the team elects to cut QBs Matt Cassel or EJ Manuel, that could change things dramatically.

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 08:32:30 -0700

Bills | Matt Cassel could be cut

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 06:21:37 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel could be cut by the team, as they are internally discussing the option.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel has no fantasy value as a backup and would only have depth value if he were to start elsewhere.

Bills | Tyrod Taylor named starter in Buffalo

Mon, 31 Aug 2015 08:27:06 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Tyrod Taylor was named the starting quarterback Monday, Aug. 31, over QB Matt Cassel an QB EJ Manuel.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor is a developing quarterback with some wheels. He's not as polished as a passer. He'll be a low-end QB2 selection that you can probably take a flyer on late in drafts.

Bills | Buffalo QBs should play equally

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 12:07:05 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs EJ Manuel, Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are expected to play a series or two each Saturday, Aug. 29, versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. Manuel will start.

Fantasy Tip: This could be the last big opportunity for all three quarterbacks to prove they deserve the Bills' starting quarterback job. Cassel has the experience, while Taylor and Manuel both offer more with their running ability, specifically Taylor. Whoever starts should not be a starting fantasy quarterback, however.

Bills | Buffalo to use rotation at QB?

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 11:31:44 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel may each be rotated in with the starting unit Saturday, Aug. 29, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to Joe Buscaglia of WGR Sports Radio 550. All three quarterbacks have received first-team repetitions the last two practices.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor was impressive when he started last week in the Bills' second preseason contest. Taylor gives the Bills more options with the offense, but Cassel has much more experience. Manuel seems to be the third option. None of them are worth starting on your fantasy squad.

Bills | Matt Cassel back in mix

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 15:02:07 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel was working with the first-team offense Saturday, Aug. 22.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel and Tyrod Taylor are in a heated battle for the starting quarterback spot. Both would be low-end QB2's as the starter.

Bills | Buffalo could keep three QBs

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 10:38:12 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel could all be on the Bills' final roster, according to head coach Rex Ryan. Ryan said there is a high possibility that the Bills could keep all three quarterbacks, adding that Cassel, Taylor and Manuel would all receive playing time in their next preseason game.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor has looked the most promising this preseason. He and Cassel seem to be the two favorites to start with Manuel lurking behind. Ryan may not name a starter until the preseason concludes. Whoever starts isn't worth starting as your fantasy quarterback.

Bills | All three Bills QBs seeing starter snaps

Sat, 22 Aug 2015 08:49:57 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel have all received snaps with the first-team offense during team drills Saturday, Aug. 22. Cassel was the first quarterback in the drills.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills may allow this competition to continue until the end of the preseason, but owners should receive some information when the team names a starter for the third preseason game. None of the Bills quarterbacks have much fantasy value and would not be more than a No. 2 quarterback in a deeper league.

Bills | Buffalo may wait on QB decision

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 12:15:52 -0700

Buffalo Bills QBs Matt Cassel, Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel are still competing for the starting quarterback job, but head coach Rex Ryan said the team may not announce the starter until Week 1. "This will probably play out," Ryan said. "Indianapolis might not know who the quarterback is until we play them. We may know, but they may not know."

Fantasy Tip: Cassel and Taylor appear to be the major candidates for the job and the third preseason game should answer some questions. Neither quarterback will be a great fantasy option for owners, so the winner of the job should only be seen as a No. 2 quarterback.

Bills | Matt Cassel probably won't play

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 16:29:43 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel will be in uniform but is not expected to play Thursday, Aug. 20, against the Cleveland Browns, according to head coach Rex Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Cassel is not injured; he's just apparently not a part of the game plan for tonight's contest. This doesn't seem to bode well for Cassel as he is in the midst of a quarterback battle. Tyrod Taylor may be the favorite to start now. It was previously reported that Taylor could win the starting job tonight if he plays well enough. Stay tuned.

Bills | Matt Cassel has improved

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:54:57 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel has played better since the spring, mainly because of his healed foot. Cassel is primarily competing with QB Tyrod Taylor for the starting quarterback position.

Fantasy Tip: Taylor can apparently win the starting gig with a solid performance tonight against the Cleveland Browns. If he doesn't perform well enough, Cassel could still win the job, especially with the experience he has. Neither should be considered starting fantasy quarterbacks, however.

Bills | EJ Manuel appears out of race

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 05:42:03 -0700

Updating previous reports, Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel appears to be out of the competition for starting quarterback with QB Matt Cassel and QB Tyrod Taylor. Cassel has shown good decision-making and command on offense. Taylor has had some accuracy issues.

Fantasy Tip: Whichever quarterback comes out as the starter is probably a weak QB2 in two-quarterback leagues.

Bills | EJ Manuel falling behind

Sat, 15 Aug 2015 18:36:55 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB EJ Manuel has fallen behind QB Matt Cassel and QB Tyrod Taylor in the battle for the starting quarterback job because of poor accuracy.

Fantasy Tip: At this point, it sounds like Cassel or Taylor will start for the Bills in Week 1, but regardless of who is under center for Buffalo, don't expect them to provide much help for fantasy teams.

Bills | OC unclear on Matt Cassel

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 15:39:19 -0700

Buffalo Bills QB Matt Cassel will start the first preseason game, but offensive coordinator Greg Roman did not indicate if Cassel was ahead in the quarterback competition with QBs Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel.

Fantasy Tip: The Bills' quarterback competition has been one of the more intriguing storylines this offseason. Cassel, Taylor and Manuel are all listed as the starting quarterback on Buffalo's first depth chart. Cassel seems to have a slight edge, but who knows what will happen between now and the end of the preseason. Stay away from the quarterbacks in Buffalo.

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan said Tuesday, Aug. 11, the coaching staff will be evaluating the quarterbacks through the first two preseason games. QB Tyrod Taylor is expected to follow QB Matt Cassel Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: EJ Manuel has seemingly fallen out of the quarterback competition in Buffalo, and the Bills seem willing to rely on the two unimpressive veterans. None of three will hold fantasy value to begin the season.
