Dodgers | Joel Peralta injury update

Fri, 13 Mar 2015 17:00:42 -0700

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers RP Joel Peralta (shoulder) is expected to make his spring training debut Friday, March 13.

Fantasy Tip: With closer Kenley Jansen (foot) sidelined due to injury, Peralta will likely be in the mix for save opportunities until he returns. Jansen could be sidelined until early May, but even a few April saves would make Peralta worthy of a late-round selection.

Dodgers | Joel Peralta to face hitters

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 14:16:22 -0700

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Joel Peralta (shoulder) is scheduled to face hitters Tuesday, March 10, and he could make his first spring outing by Sunday, March 15.

Fantasy Tip: Because he's a relief pitcher, Peralta probably won't need many spring outings before being ready for the regular season. With Kenley Jansen (foot) out for at least the first month of the season, Peralta is the favorite to see the majority of the team's ninth-inning save chances. Target him in the late rounds of standard 12-team mixed league drafts if you're looking for more saves to open 2014.

Dodgers | Joel Peralta throws bullpen

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 11:09:45 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Joel Peralta (shoulder) felt fine after a bullpen session Monday, March 2.

Fantasy Tip: As a reliever, Peralta won't need many spring outings or innings to be ready for opening day. He's the likely candidate to see most of the save opportunities in the ninth inning with Kenley Jansen (foot) out at least the first month. Target Peralta as a cheap saves source at the tail end of deep mixed leagues or as a handcuff to Jansen.

Dodgers | Joel Peralta should be ready

Thu, 26 Feb 2015 11:22:46 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Joel Peralta (shoulder) is behind schedule in camp because of right shoulder stiffness, but manager Don Mattingly is confident that Peralta will be ready for opening day. Peralta expects to throw his first bullpen session next week. The good news is that Peralta doesn't need many exhibition outings to be game-ready.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta is likely the leading candidate to fill in in the ninth inning with Kenley Jansen (foot) sidelined to start the season. The other candidates would be J.P. Howell and Brandon League. If you're speculating at the tail end of fantasy drafts, Peralta should be your pick, but keep an eye on how he recovers from his shoulder stiffness.

Dodgers | Kenley Jansen to be on crutches

Wed, 18 Feb 2015 08:59:21 -0800

Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Dodgers RP Kenley Jansen (foot) will be on crutches for about 10 days and in a protective boot for another three to four weeks after having a growth removed from one of the bones in his foot. The Dodgers have no obvious replacement at closer for Jansen, with RP Brandon League maybe being the likeliest candidate because of his 74 career saves. RP J.P. Howell has 21 career saves, and RP Joel Peralta could also be an option.

Fantasy Tip: Jensen, in a best-case scenario, will probably be ready in early May. That means the Dodgers have to fill the closer situation for a month without him. Based on Peralta's numbers with the Tampa Bay Rays the past several seasons, he seems like the best bet to handle most of the opportunities if the Dodgers don't go outside the organization for help. If you're a Jansen owner, the best course of action would be to pick up Peralta or Howell and sit on Jansen for the first month.

Dodgers | Joel Peralta to see save chances?

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 19:51:33 -0800

Los Angeles Dodgers RP Joel Peralta might see save chances with RP Kenley Jansen (foot) sidelined eight to 12 weeks due to surgery on his left foot.

Fantasy Tip: Peralta is a newcomer to the Los Angeles bullpen, but if the team looks in-house for a replacement for Jansen, Peralta is a smoke thrower who could hold down ninth-inning duties until Jansen is ready. The club could also opt for a closer-by-committee with Brandon League and J.P. Howell also in the mix, or they might look outside of the organization.
