Padres | Kemp, Upton vary in results against Latos

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 16:17:28 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Matt Kemp is hitting .150 in 20 career plate appearances against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Mat Latos. OF Justin Upton is hitting .500 against Latos with two home runs in 20 plate appearances, as well. The Padres face Latos and the Dodgers Thursday, Sept. 3.

Fantasy Tip: While Kemp's ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) numbers against Latos are iffy, he's not a bad FantasyScore pick tonight against the struggling pitcher, and Kemp has been one of the best run-producers in all of baseball since the All-Star break. Upton ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is obviously attractive because of how he's owned Latos over the years.

Padres | Yonder Alonso removed from game

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 05:42:48 -0700

San Diego Padres 1B Yonder Alonso (head) was removed from the game Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Colorado Rockies, after a helmet thrown by Justin Upton in the dugout bounced and hit Alonso. Team doctors cleared Alonso of any concussion symptoms, be he will be re-evaluated Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Alonso ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) had been 4-for-12 over his last three starts, but he is having a disappointing year with just four home runs. He is a relatively low-upside option on FantasyScore.

Padres | SD wants to re-sign Justin Upton

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 17:28:58 -0700

San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller said the club hopes to re-sign OF Justin Upton, who will become a free agent after the 2015 season. "He's definitely going to be one of the options we talk about," Preller said. "He's made a very positive impression here. We're going to sit down in the offseason and see what we can do with him."

Fantasy Tip: In his first season in San Diego, Upton ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is batting .253 with 20 home runs, 63 RBIs and 18 steals through 108 games. He is hitting .286 with two homers and seven RBIs in August, after having hit below .200 in each of the previous two months.

Padres | Justin Upton returns to the lineup

Wed, 05 Aug 2015 15:47:39 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton (thumb) is playing left field and batting fourth against Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Fantasy Tip: Upton ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) boasts high-end upside, but he has a slight injury risk, and Jungmann ($6,600, 13.2% of cap) has been solid this season. At his cap hit, FantasyScore players should view Upton as a high-risk, high-reward investment Wednesday.

Padres | Justin Upton to avoid DL?

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 16:17:25 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton (thumb) is not a candidate to go on the disabled list at this time, but his bruised right thumb is bothering him more when he throws. He could be available to pinch hit Tuesday, Aug. 4, but he's not in the starting lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Will Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is starting in left field and hitting sixth against Milwaukee Brewers starter Jimmy Nelson tonight. Venable is a mediocre value play on FantasyScore for his speed, but he loses some daily value hitting lower in the order. Plus, Nelson has been very solid of late.

Padres | Justin Upton to receive qualifying offer

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 13:30:25 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton will receive a qualifying off from the team.

Fantasy Tip: The Padres stood pat at the trade deadline, so they're committed to winning with the team they built during the offseason. Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) is a huge part of the puzzle, and he has fared well at pitcher-friendly PETCO Park this season with 32 runs, 13 home runs, 31 RBI, seven stolen bases and a .297/.354/.558 slash line. Continue to view Upton as a No. 1 outfielder in the majority of fantasy formats.

Padres | Justin Upton likely staying put

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 12:14:57 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton appears unlikely to be dealt before the trade deadline Friday, July 31, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: While this might be somewhat surprising to see him remain with the club, the Friars were likely chasing a huge haul in return for Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap). To date, he has 18 home runs and 56 RBI and is worth looking at when the Padres face a favorable opposing starter.

Orioles | Baltimore unwilling to part with prospects

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 09:22:11 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton is of interest to the Baltimore Orioles, but the Orioles are hesitant to part with SP Kevin Gausman, RP Mychal Givens or 2B Jonathan Schoop in any deal for a veteran bat.

Fantasy Tip: A move to Baltimore would surely make Upton ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) more valuable to his fantasy owners, although he oddly has better hitting splits at pitcher-friendly Petco Park in 2015.
