Nationals | More on Ryan Zimmerman

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 16:29:02 -0700

Updating previous reports, Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) is steal dealing with plantar fasciitis in his left foot despite starting Friday, April 24, and it's an ongoing problem for him. Zimmerman sleeps with a splint on his foot at night and keeps it in ice and has anti-inflammatory medication to keep the swelling down.

Fantasy Tip: If you own Zimmerman ($4,000, 8.0% of cap), make sure you have replacements handy in case the injury-prone veteran succumbs to yet another injury. Zimmerman is off to somewhat of a slow start, too, and his sore foot may be playing a part. Keep an eye on him.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman remains in

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 13:20:09 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) remains in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Mat Latos Friday, April 24. Zimmerman is starting at first base and hitting fifth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) is dealing with a mild case of plantar fasciitis, which if not treated properly, can become debilitating, especially for an injury-prone player like Zimmerman. The Nats will likely look to rest him at some point this weekend, so keep an eye out. Zimmerman is only hitting .226 (14-for-62 with two home runs), and his foot injury may affect his results at the plate. At FantasyScore tonight against Latos, Zimm isn't a terrible option at first base, but you can likely find better candidates.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman has foot issue

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 15:40:30 -0700

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (foot) is dealing with a mild case of plantar fasciitis, and he may need to take a day off soon.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) owners are probably saying, "here we go again." The oft-injured Zimmerman hasn't played in more than 61 games in the last two years due to various ailments, mainly shoulder problems. His owners may want to start making contingency plans in case his injury worsens or impacts his performance.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman staying at 1B

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 07:23:53 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman will remain at first base with 3B Anthony Rendon (knee) injured. Zimmerman said he's more comfortable at first base than he was at third base the last two years. 2B/SS Yunel Escobar volunteered to play third.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman's ($5,100, 10.2% of your cap) move across the diamond should serve his body well and allow him to return to his .280-25-90 ways. At 10.2% of your cap, we need to see more signs he can do so before comfortably using him on FantasyScore.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman back in lineup

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 10:21:33 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is back in the spring lineup Monday, March 30, two days after injuring his left shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) should be good to go for the season opener in a week unless he suffers a setback before then. Multipositional eligibility makes Zimmerman more attractive this season, but he still carries plenty of injury risk.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman out a couple days

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 14:13:12 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is likely to miss the next two or three days after jamming his left shoulder/upper back area diving for a ball Friday, March 27. No MRI will be taken, and he said he feels better already.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman ($5,100, 10.2% of your cap) is at the bottom of the first tier of FantasyScore first basemen, but we're not sure his production matches that. He needs to prove his health and ability to get back to his .280-25-90 self before we're comfortable at that price.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman taken out of game

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 13:24:28 -0700

Washington Nationals 1B Ryan Zimmerman (side) left the spring game early Friday, March 27, after having "banged himself" on the left side while making a diving stop in the first inning, according to manager Matt Williams. Zimmerman didn't ask to be taken out, though, and Williams insisted the move was precautionary. "He's good," Williams said following his team's 1-1 tie with the St. Louis Cardinals. "He's played three in a row. He's fine. He dove for that ball, banged himself a little bit. But he's good. No worries."

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman will always be a risky fantasy baseball player because of his injury-prone ways, but the fact that he now has eligibility at third base, outfield, and eventually first base, makes him an intriguing asset.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman working at 1B

Mon, 02 Mar 2015 14:58:25 -0800

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman continues to work at first base in spring training, and the team has been impressed with his athleticism in learning the new position. "His athleticism is key for us," manager Matt Williams said. "He catches everything. He doesn't miss a ball."

Fantasy Tip: The most intriguing thing about Zimmerman entering the 2015 season is that he'll add first base to his eligibility collection, which makes him a bit more valuable to fantasy baseball owners. In addition to first, he'll also be eligible at third and in the outfield. However, there's plenty of injury risk that comes along with him, which is why he's ranked 13th in our third base rankings once the bigger names come off the board.

Nationals | Ryan Zimmerman won't play OF

Mon, 23 Feb 2015 11:33:55 -0800

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman won't be playing outfield or third base during defensive work this spring, according to manager Matt Williams. Zimmerman will spend all his time at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman's injury concerns are the biggest reason why he's fallen so far in the third base rankings heading into 2015. Power may be a concern now, too, if his shoulder is no longer as strong as it once was. Both third and first base eligibility will be nice, but he may not see enough time to qualify as an outfielder.

Nationals | Adam LaRoche unlikely to return

Sun, 12 Oct 2014 10:18:24 -0700

Updating a previous report, the Washington Nationals are unlikely to bring back 1B Adam LaRoche next season. The team may consider moving 3B Ryan Zimmerman across the diamond to serve as the regular first baseman.
