Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (thumb) will miss four to six weeks after suffering a fractured thumb during the game Saturday, April 12.
Fantasy Tip: Anthony Rendon likely will take over at third base while Zimmerman is out of the lineup and should be picked up if available in leagues. Danny Espinosa probably will fill in at second base for Rendon and should be added by owners looking for help at second base or middle infield.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) was in the lineup at third base for the second straight day Thursday, April 10, after altering his throwing motion to a sidearm delivery. "I thought he was good. Got challenged right away," manager Matt Williams said. "No ill effects. He reported today that he felt good. We went through another session today out there and he's got no issues, which is good. So hopefully that little adjustment will take some pressure off the shoulder."

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is back at third base Wednesday, April 9.
Fantasy Tip: Zimmerman is going with a sidearm throwing motion to help alleviate the pain his arthritic right shoulder is giving him. Apparently he convinced the team he's fine while using his new throwing motion during pre-game workouts Wednesday. This'll be an ongoing concern, though, so keep a close eye on his shoulder health.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is attempting to change his throwing motion to alleviate the pain it causes to his right shoulder, and he hopes to play Wednesday, April 9. He had been using the motion on most slow ground balls in the infield and used that form early in his career before injuries forced him to change it. Zimmerman said his shoulder feels considerably better when he lowers his arm slot.
Fantasy Tip: Matt Williams called the shoulder "arthritic" in a recent interview, which should give any Zimmerman fantasy owner pause over his long-term viability. Still, now that there's a strategy to manage it, at least he's looking like a slightly safer bet for this season. Keep an eye on these developments. For as long as Zimmerman is out, Anthony Rendon will play third and Danny Espinosa will man second.

Fantasy Tip: Espinosa can be picked up in NL-only leagues and could have mixed-league value if Zimmerman misses an extended period.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) will attempt to alter his throwing motion in order to stay on the field at third base while battling through his shoulder injuries. He spent time Tuesday, April 8, working on a pronounced sidearm throwing motion that he has used in recent years, and he reported no issues with his shoulder.
"Very realistic," manager Matt Williams said. "If he comes in tomorrow and feels good, I'm going to put him in there. We need him to play third for us. He's a vital piece of this team, middle-of-the-lineup and a fantastic hitter and a fantastic defender. We want him to play every day." Zimmerman continues to say that his arm feels better when he lowers his arm slot. He's not considering a cortisone shot, which he feels may have caused long-term damage in recent seasons. Williams said he might use Zimmerman at first base or designated hitter during interleague games, but his preference is to leave him at third base.
Fantasy Tip: This is an ongoing issue, one that could put Zimmerman on the DL eventually. Prepare for that possibility. The good news for fantasy owners is that it hasn't affected his hitting, so if the change in mechanics can keep him at third, you won't have much to worry about.

Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams said there is a "very realistic" chance that 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) will return to the lineup at third base Wednesday, April 9. "If he feels fine, he's going to continue to play third," Williams said.
Fantasy Tip: Williams also said that labeling Zimmerman's condition as arthritic may have not been the best way to describe it. However, it's clear that this is something that will continue to be a factor in how often Zimm plays at third. Continue to monitor the situation.

Washington Nationals 3B Ryan Zimmerman (shoulder) is out of the lineup Tuesday, April 8. 2B Anthony Rendon is moving to third base and 2B Danny Espinosa is playing second.
Fantasy Tip: This could be a more regular occurence with Zimmerman dealing with an arthritic right shoulder. Espinosa will become more valuable if that's the case. He should be owned in NL-only leagues, at least.
