Pirates | Cutch won't blame knee for slow start

Tue, 12 May 2015 17:42:37 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen (knee) is hitting just .219 with two home runs and one stolen base heading into the game Tuesday, May 12, against the Philadelphia Phillies. However, he said he does not have a knee injury, and his left knee is "not a factor at all" in his slow start. "Physically, I feel great," McCutchen said. "I mean, I was running and jumping off the wall two days ago. If I need to go steal a base, I can steal a base."

Fantasy Tip: McCutchen has picked it up over the past five games, posting a .389 mark (7-for-18) with four doubles, his lone steal of the season and five runs scored, so perhaps whatever ailed him before is a thing of the past. The way he has been hitting recently, he is a steal at $4,800 (or 9.6% of cap) in FantasyScore.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen gaining steam

Sat, 09 May 2015 06:21:03 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen had two hits, including a double, and scored a run Friday, May 8. He has now registered a hit in eight of his last nine games, and McCutchen has five runs, three RBI and a stolen base with a .286 batting average during the span.

Fantasy Tip: The unanimous first-round fantasy pick has been a tremendous disappointment to date, but his 15 runs and 14 RBI are keeping him afloat, albeit barely. Still, McCutchen ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) is a hot streak away from edging back to being an elite hitter, and he has proven capable of torrid stretches in the past. His FantasyScore price has dropped into profit territory, so be ready to pounce when 'Cutch' heats up.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen has sore knee

Tue, 05 May 2015 18:38:48 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen (knee) is dealing with a sore left knee, although manager Clint Hurdle said Tuesday, May 5, that it is not "a concerning area right now." McCutchen is hitting just .193 and he has yet to steal a base this season.

Fantasy Tip: Hurdle might simply be protecting his player and playing possum with the opposition, as admitting an injury could help in their defensive plan against Cutch. FantasyScore players have certainly not been getting a good return on their $5,100 (or 10.2% of cap) investment so far this season.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen not fully healthy

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 11:31:36 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen (knee) said he was "80%" healthy earlier in the month, and he's enduring one of the worst slumps to start a season in his career. His walk and strikeout totals are normal, but his power has been lacking. McCutchen missed two weeks in spring with a knee issue, but manager Clint Hurdle doesn't think that's the reason for McCutchen's slow start.

Fantasy Tip: McCutchen ($6,000, 12.0% of cap) is hitting only .179 (12-for-67) with two home runs, 11 RBI and no stolen bases on one attempt. The lack of power and aggressiveness on the base paths are the most concerning to his owners, especially if his knee ailment is playing a part. He's not worth paying up for right now at FantasyScore until we see some signs of life. You might want to consider benching him in standard leagues for the time being, as well.
