Pirates | Andrew McCutchen goes deep thrice

Tue, 26 Apr 2016 21:39:15 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen smacked three home runs Tuesday, April 26, against the Colorado Rockies. It was the second time he has hit three homers in a game, and first time since Aug. 1, 2009.

Fantasy Tip: Cutch snapped out of a 3-for-23 slide in a big way. He remains a must-start fantasy option, even when he is in a funk, because he can break out at any moment.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen sitting out

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 15:01:43 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies SP Chad Bettis Monday, April 25. OF Starling Marte will start in center field, while OF Matt Joyce will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Joyce has been used mostly as a pinch hitter this season but does have a .300 average over the first few weeks of the season. Joyce could be a desperation option in some daily fantasy leagues, but owners should be able to find better options in most leagues.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen continues slump

Sun, 24 Apr 2016 05:48:06 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen went 0-for-3 during the Pirates 7-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: McCutchen is 10-for-58 through his past 15 games with an underwhelming eight runs, two home runs, four RBI, one stolen base and .172/.294/.328 slash line. The superstar will breakout of his funk, but at 29, it isn't out of the question to suggest his prime offensive years are behind him. Still, it is worth checking for a potential buy-low opportunity.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen scratched

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 13:03:42 -0700

Pittsburgh Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen (quadriceps) was scratched because of a tight left quadriceps Friday, March 25. The team said it was just precautionary, though, and McCutchen participated in on-field workouts Friday.

Fantasy Tip: McCutchen had mashed five home runs this spring and has been one of the safest fantasy investments over the past five years. Dating back to 2011, he has averaged 94 runs, 25 home runs, 90 RBI and 20 stolen bases per season with a .302/.396/.509 slash line. This sounds like a minor injury, so continue to view McCutchen as a first-round lock, but you'll also want to keep tabs on his health leading into the season.

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen could bat second

Sat, 19 Mar 2016 18:10:02 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates are thinking of moving OF Andrew McCutchen from the No. 3 spot in the batting order to the No. 2 spot. The belief is that McCutchen would see more plate appearances hitting second and would be less likely to come to the plate with the bases empty and two outs.

Fantasy Tip: Dating back to September 2011, McCutchen has batted third in 626 of the 628 games he has started. He would likely see a decrease in RBIs if he moves to the No. 2 spot but he should still be viewed as a first-round selection in all fantasy formats.
