Reds | Jay Bruce playing Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 09:44:26 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce (knee) is in the starting lineup against Seattle Mariners SP Wade Miley Sunday, May 22.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce is hitting .323 against left-handed pitchers this season but only one of his eight home runs is against lefties. Bruce should still be a decent starter in some leagues, but owners should not expect much power.

Reds | Jay Bruce reaches base five times

Sun, 15 May 2016 15:28:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce was an on-base machine Sunday, May 15, going 3-for-3 and drawing two walks in his five at-bats, while scoring three times against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Fantasy Tip: The two free passes matched his total for the month of May entering the game, while the three-hit effort lifted his average this month from .214 to .267. Bruce has never been a consistent contact hitter, but he typically churns out 20 homers around 80 RBI, making him a rock-solid third outfielder in fantasy. He should remain in fantasy lineups as the Reds play an interleague home-and-home series with the Cleveland Indians beginning on Monday.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates left-handed SP Jon Niese Monday, May 9. OF Tyler Holt is starting in right field and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Holt hasn't homered in 145 major league plate appearances and should be one to avoid in daily games Monday night despite hitting .281 (9-for-32) to start this year.

Reds | Jay Bruce ends homerless drought

Thu, 05 May 2016 19:42:14 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce delivered a three-run shot - his only hit in four at-bats - against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, May 05, for his first home run in 11 games.

Fantasy Tip: The lack of power recently hasn't stopped Bruce from driving in runs, as he leads the team with 21 RBI. He struck out two more times tonight, however, and has fanned eight times in five May games, so he's not exactly locked in. With that said, Bruce is always a threat to drive in runs and should remain in lineups.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is being placed on the paternity list Monday, April 25. P Layne Somsen had his contract purchased from Class AAA Louisville in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce could be out for a few days, and Tyler Holt and/or Scott Schebler could see a few more starts this week as a result, with Billy Hamilton (thumb) still banged up. Bruce is hitting .265 and has four home runs and 15 RBI on the year and should be put back into all starting lineups when he returns.

Reds | Jay Bruce hits fourth homer

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 14:33:22 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce hit his fourth home run of the season Wednesday, April 20, versus the Colorado Rockies. He finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce now has a splendid 15 RBI on the young season but perhaps most impressive, he's hitting a cool .293, which is certainly higher than anticipated from the 29-year-old. He's always proven he can post respectable power numbers, but if Bruce can maintain a steadily solid batting average, he'll be an upper echelon outfielder in fantasy.
