Reds | Jay Bruce moving up team list

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 22:52:00 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce belted a solo home run Wednesday, July 29, against the St. Louis Cardinals, providing all of the offense in a 1-0 win. It was his 199th homer, moving him past Hall of Famer Barry Larkin into ninth place on the team's all-time homers list.

Fantasy Tip: The homer could be Bruce's last in a Cincinnati uniform, as his name has been bandied about in many trade rumors. Over the course of the next few days it might be prudent to avoid Bruce ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) and his high salary in FantasyScore in case he is moved.

Mets | NY wants to add another bat

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 12:17:58 -0700

The New York Mets want to add another big bat at the trading deadline, and they have their sights set on San Diego Padres OF Justin Upton, Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez, Milwaukee Brewers OFs Carlos Gomez and Gerardo Parra and Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce. The Padres and Mets didn't agree on a prospect package for Upton, but the talks could be rekindled. Gonzalez's price tag would be high, as he is heating up this summer. The Reds are showing interest in SP Zack Wheeler in exchange for Bruce. Reds OF Marlon Byrd could be a fallback option for the Mets.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets surely could use a boost on the offensive side, and any of these bats would do just fine. A move to New York for any of these names is unlikely to drastically affect their fantasy value, although some of those names would be leaving fine hitting environments.

Reds | Jay Bruce on bench for Game 1

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 06:59:05 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is out of the lineup for the first day of a doubleheader Wednesday, July 22, with OF Jason Bourgeois hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Bourgeois ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is just 3-for-18 on the year and isn't worth the flyer on FantasyScore.

Orioles | BAL interested in Reds' Cueto, Bruce

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 06:28:04 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Johnny Cueto and OF Jay Bruce are two players the Baltimore Orioles have expressed interest in.

Fantasy Tip: Cueto ($8,900, 17.8% of cap) is a top-flight consideration on FantasyScore every time his turn comes around. Bruce's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) .252-14-46 line is on par with his career numbers. He's an above-average option on FantasyScore.

Angels | LAA interested in Jay Bruce

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 13:22:26 -0700

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim have expressed interest in Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce. An Angels scout was on hand to watch the Reds during their game Sunday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Sunday, Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) was batting .255 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs. Changing teams wouldn't significantly impact his fantasy value, although it would be interesting to see how he would fare in a lineup that already includes Albert Pujols and Mike Trout.

Reds | Jay Bruce picking up pace

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 20:55:41 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and a run scored in a 9-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians Saturday, July 18, and he has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has been awful for most of the year, but he is starting to swing a hot bat. He has been known to go on torrid hot streaks, so he could be worth rolling the dice on at FantasyScore in the coming days.

Reds | Jay Bruce availabe for trade

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 10:16:31 -0700

Cincinnati Red OF Jay Bruce is available for trade, and John Heyman of CBSSports speculates that the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim could be the team most in need of Bruce's left-handed power bat. He has been hitting better of late, which has made the Reds unwilling to significantly pay down the remaining money on his contract - $19.5 million guaranteed through 2016.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce's ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) fantasy value wouldn't be significantly impacted by a change of teams, but the chance to go from the sixth worst run-scoring offense in baseball to the 16th best and hit in a lineup with Mike Trout and Albert Pujols would be an intriguing development.

Reds | Jay Bruce getting hot closer to deadline

Mon, 13 Jul 2015 09:34:36 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce started slow the first five weeks of the 2015 season but has picked up his play, batting .357 with 11 doubles and four home runs in his last 22 games. Bruce has an affordable contract - $12.5 million for 2016 and a club option for $13 million for 2017 - with a limited no-trade clause. He can block a trade to the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Miami Marlins, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks and Toronto Blue Jays.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) can be brutal in batting average, but he has impact power and he steals the occasional base. In daily formats, it is worth noting that while Bruce bats left-handed, he hits for a better batting average and higher OPS against left-handed pitching. He has been rumored to be on the trading block, but a trade is unlikely to drastically impact his fantasy value.

Reds | Jay Bruce sitting out vs. Pirates

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:46:36 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 25. 2B Skip Schumaker is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. He is currently in fine form and sporting a seven-game hitting streak with nine runs, three home runs, nine RBI and a .467/.500/.900 slash line. Against Burnett, Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore contests Thursday.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 2-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI Wednesday, June 24, against the Pittsburgh Pirates to push his hitting streak to seven games.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce is hitting .467 (14-for-30) during his seven-game run, making him a tremendous FantasyScore play at $4,500 (or 9.0% of cap).
