Reds | Jay Bruce sitting out vs. Pirates

Thu, 25 Jun 2015 14:46:36 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 25. 2B Skip Schumaker is starting in right field and batting seventh against Pittsburgh Pirates SP A.J. Burnett Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Thursday. He is currently in fine form and sporting a seven-game hitting streak with nine runs, three home runs, nine RBI and a .467/.500/.900 slash line. Against Burnett, Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) is nothing more than a desperation source of cap relief for FantasyScore contests Thursday.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 2-for-5 with a double, run scored and RBI Wednesday, June 24, against the Pittsburgh Pirates to push his hitting streak to seven games.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce is hitting .467 (14-for-30) during his seven-game run, making him a tremendous FantasyScore play at $4,500 (or 9.0% of cap).

Reds | Jay Bruce has another big night

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 19:59:28 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 2-for-5 with two runs, a home run and three RBI during the Reds' 7-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday, June 23.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) has been known throughout his career to go on torrid hot stretches, and he entered the game Tuesday with a .500/.545/.950 slash line over his previous five games with six runs, three doubles, two home runs and five RBI. At his reasonable cap hit, FantasyScore players should be willing to take a stab. Just note his pitching matchup against Pirates SP Gerrit Cole is far from ideal Wednesday, June 24.

Reds | Jay Bruce dialed in

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 19:16:56 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBI, a run scored, a walk and a stolen base in a 5-0 win over the Miami Marlins Friday, June 19, and he is 8-for-12 at the plate over his last three games.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has struggled for much of the season, but with eight hits and just one strikeout over his last four games, he seems to being seeing the ball as well as he has all year. Bruce has been streaky throughout his career, so you could have a small window to take advantage of him at FantasyScore.

Reds | Jay Bruce out of lineup Thursday

Thu, 18 Jun 2015 12:38:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup Thursday, June 18, against the Detroit Tigers. OF Chris Dominguez is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is likely out due to the team's 13-inning win over the Tigers the night before, a game that didn't finish until after 1 a.m. Dominguez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) doesn't have much fantasy value, so you may want to look elsewhere.

Reds | Jay Bruce will be DH

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 13:54:48 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce will serve as the designated hitter against Detroit Tigers SP Kyle Ryan Tuesday, June 16. 2B Chris Dominguez will start in right field and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) has done pretty well against left-handed pitchers this season with a .237 average, two home runs and 11 RBI. He is batting .163 this month and may not be a top option on FantasyScore. Dominguez ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) has gone 2-for-8 since being recalled from the minor leagues and should not be an option on FantasyScore.

Reds | Jay Bruce ejected from game

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 17:35:46 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce was ejected from the game Tuesday, June 9, against the Philadelphia Phillies for arguing balls and strikes.

Fantasy Tip: The good news is that Bruce ($4,100; or 8.2% of cap) did not suffer any type of injury, in case FantasyScore players were wondering why he left early. Either way, it is a disappointing stat line.

Reds | Jay Bruce does it all

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 17:56:13 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce hit a pair of home runs and drove in all four runs in a win over the San Diego Padres Sunday, June 7.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting just .223 and has been inconsistent all year. However, he has hit eight of his nine home runs at home, so if you are going to roll the dice at FantasyScore, at least make sure he is playing at Great American Ball Park.

Reds | Signs of life from Jay Bruce?

Thu, 28 May 2015 19:09:57 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, raising his average from .174 to .226.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) has five multi-hit games during the same stretch and is striking out less. He still isn't producing enough to demand you attention at FantasyScore, but he could be a nice buy-low candidate in seasonal leagues.

Reds | Jay Bruce dropped to seventh

Tue, 19 May 2015 15:49:02 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is hitting seventh in the batting order against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Tuesday, May 19.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is still under .200 (24-for-126) on the season, but he does have seven home runs and 19 RBI. The good news is that he's 7-for-24 (.292) with two homers since May 11, and the matchup is in his favor while facing the struggling Ventura. However, Bruce is a boom-or-bust FantasyScore selection.
