Reds | Jay Bruce expected to be dealt

Mon, 28 Dec 2015 15:12:17 -0800

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is likely to be traded during the offseason, according to president of baseball operations Walt Jocketty.

Fantasy Tip: From 2011 to 2013, Bruce averaged 32 home runs and 102 RBI per season with a respectable .257/.332/.488 slash line, but he has struggled in consecutive seasons with an average of 22 homers and 76 RBI with a .222/.288/.406 line. Entering his age-29 season, there is room for a resurgence from the fallen slugger, and Bruce is worth a speculative flier in the second half of drafts this spring, especially if power is a category of need.

Royals | KC asked about Todd Frazier, Jay Bruce

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 11:17:38 -0800

The Kansas City Royals called the Cincinnati Reds and asked about 3B Todd Frazier and OF Jay Bruce. The Royals are set at third base but need corner outfielders with free-agent OFs Alex Gordon and Alex Rios set to depart. However, a deal between the two teams is unlikely because the Reds are essentially asking teams for their top pitching prospect and top position player prospect in return for Frazier. The Royals are reluctant to part with SS Raul Adalberto Mondesi and P Miguel Almonte.

Fantasy Tip: It'll surely take a huge haul to land Frazier, who broke out last year despite a tough second half of the season. He will be one of the top-tier power-hitting third basemen in the league for years to come and will demand an early rounds price in fantasy baseball drafts.

Orioles | BAL interested in Jay Bruce

Sat, 21 Nov 2015 11:40:03 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles have expressed interest in Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce, although a deal does not appear to be imminent, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Tip: The 28-year-old Bruce hit .226 with 26 home runs and 87 RBIs in 157 games last season. His power numbers have remained fairly stable throughout his career, although he is just batting .222 over the last two seasons after hitting .257 through his first six years in the majors. If you can live with a low batting average, Bruce should still be available in the middle rounds of fantasy baseball drafts next spring.

Reds | Jay Bruce homers twice

Sun, 20 Sep 2015 20:58:54 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 2-for-3 with two solo home runs, three runs scored and a walk in an 8-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday, Sept. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) continues to sport an ugly batting average, but he still has plenty of power. For the price, he isn't a terrible player to gamble on at FantasyScore.

Reds | No Jay Bruce vs. Cards

Sun, 13 Sep 2015 07:46:10 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 13. 3B Adam Duvall is starting in left field and batting sixth against St. Louis Cadinals SP Michael Wacha Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Bruce ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Sunday. The veteran is struggling with a .191/.235/.319 slash line over his past 25 games. At this point, he can be replaced without worry in the majority of seasonal leagues. Duvall ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is 3-for-12 with the Reds this season with all three hits clearing the fence. He is nothing more than a dice roll at FantasyScore Sunday.

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored in a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday, Sept. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is batting just .232, but he still has some pop in his bat. He is a high-risk, high-reward option at FantasyScore.

Reds | Jay Bruce out for Game 2 Saturday

Sat, 05 Sep 2015 14:11:50 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of the doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, Sept. 5. 3B Adam Duvall is in left field and OF Ryan LaMarre is in center, and OF Jason Bourgeois is manning right field against Brewers SP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is merely sitting because it is the second game of a doubleheader. Both Duvall and LaMarre are September callups who have not extablished much FantasyScore value as of yet.

Reds | Jay Bruce scores and drives in three

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 05:38:44 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce went 3-for-5 with three runs, a home run and three RBI during the Reds' 12-9 win over the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday, Aug. 29.

Fantasy Tip: It was just the second home run for Bruce ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) in August, and he owns a .154/.183/.298 slash line for the month. He has potential, but FantasyScore players should view him as nothing more than a dice roll at this point. In seasonal formats, a long hard look at alternatives is warranted.

Reds | Jay Bruce not playing Sunday

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 08:41:02 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Chase Anderson Sunday, Aug. 23. 2B Skip Schumaker will start in left field and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) should return to the lineup soon. Schumaker ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has a hit in each of his last three games but is hitting .167 in August and should not be a starting option on FantasyScore.

Reds | Jay Bruce returns to lineup

Sun, 16 Aug 2015 12:27:32 -0700

Cincinnati Reds OF Jay Bruce is back in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Zack Greinke Sunday, Aug. 16, batting fifth and playing right field.

Fantasy Tip: Bruce ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is only batting .145 this month and is just 5-for-30 against Greinke in his career, with a home run and five RBIs. FantasyScore owners should avoid using him until he shows signs of snapping out of his slump.
