Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury won't require surgery

Wed, 20 May 2015 15:56:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury's (knee) sprained right knee ligament will not require surgery, the team announced. There is still no timeline for his return, though.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury is expected to meet with the team doctor Friday, May 22, so there will likely be more specifics available then. Chris Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) projects to receive the most substantial fantasy boost in the short term, and he is especially dangerous against left-handed hurlers (1.230 OPS through 46 plate appearances this season). FantasyScore players should take note. It sounds like fantasy owners shouldn't be surprised if they're without Ellsbury for awhile.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury has sprained knee

Wed, 20 May 2015 10:24:28 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) is dealing with a sprained right knee that has landed him on the disabled list. He hurt himself swinging in the fourth inning of the game Tuesday, May 19, and he went for an MRI exam. The Yankees could move OF Brett Gardner to center field, OF Chris Young could play center field. OF Slade Heathcott, who was recalled from the minors, is another option in center.

Fantasy Tip: There's no timetable for Ellsbury's ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) return, but given his history with nagging ailments, you should plan for the worst and a stay beyond the 15 days on the DL. Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) should now see regular playing time, boosting his value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Young is a fine weapon for FantasyScore lineups against southpaws. Heathcott is strictly an AL-only commodity in deep setups.
