Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury may return this weekend

Fri, 13 May 2016 06:44:47 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) continues to progress and could return sometime this weekend.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury has a .260-1-9 line with nine steals thus far. The power hasn't been there, but if he can stay healthy, 30 steals is well within range. He's a midrange option in the outfield. Aaron Hicks and Dustin Ackley have played a lot with the team rotating players at DH while A-Rod (hamstring) is also out. Hicks and Ackley are meager DFS options that will be relegated back to the bench. They're AL-only depth options for now.

Yankees | Still no Jacoby Ellsbury

Thu, 12 May 2016 12:27:33 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) remains out of the starting lineup Thursday, May 12. OF Aaron Hicks is in center field and is batting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Ian Kennedy.

Fantasy Tip: Ellsbury is expected to return to the lineup sometime this weekend, so stay patient. However, you may want to give him a few games to get his bearings back. Ellsbury has been a disappointment aside from his nine steals in 12 attempts. Hicks should continue to see decent playing time as long as Alex Rodriguez is out, but he's hitting only .216 (11-for-51) with two home runs and doesn't carry much fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues right now.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury returning soon

Wed, 11 May 2016 16:27:17 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) ran the bases before the game Wednesday, May 11, and while he's not at full speed, the Yanks are hoping that he can return against the Chicago White Sox this weekend. Ellsbury has been out since Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Lower-body injuries continue to plague Ellsbury, and it's part of the reason the aging outfielder has gone from 52 to 21 stolen bases the last three years. He remains on track for 20 against this year (nine already), but his power numbers are also down drastically, making him a lower midrange fantasy outfielder in mixed leagues. You may want to give him a game or two before reinserting him into your lineups.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury out again Tuesday

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:29:01 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) is out for the fourth straight day Tuesday, May 10, due to a hip injury. OF Aaron Hicks will man center field and will bat sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen.

Fantasy Tip: As mentioned in a previous tip, Ellsbury owners should be used to these injuries by now. His fantasy value has decreased because Ellsbury can't stay healthy. Sideline him in your league because it is looking more and more like the disabled list may be in order. As for Hicks, he is batting .222-2-4 in the past week but is 6-for-44 for the season. That carries no fantasy value for your lineup.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury a DL candidate?

Mon, 09 May 2016 14:09:30 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) could be out through Wednesday, May 11, according to manager Joe Girardi. Ellsbury has been out since Friday, May 6. Girardi has said that if Ellsbury misses too much time beyond the middle of the week, he could be a candidate for the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Based on Ellsbury's history with lower body ailments, you should've already been planning for a possible DL stint for the veteran outfielder. He's contributed nine steals but hasn't done much else, and his hip injury could prevent him from running as much when he returns. Aaron Hicks has played steadily since Ellsbury's injury, but with he doesn't carry much value in any format with only five hits in 41 at-bats (.122).

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury out of the lineup again

Mon, 09 May 2016 12:53:35 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hip) is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 9. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in center field and batting second against Kansas City Royals SP Chris Young Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Beyond his nine stolen bases, Ellsbury has underwhelmed fantasy owners with just 10 runs, a home run, nine RBI and a .260/.321/.380 slash line. And at this point, he isn't a must-start outfielder in the majority of seasonal leagues. Hicks has done nothing (5-for-41 thus far) to warrant a nod as any more than a desperation start in any fantasy format Monday.
