Brewers | Scooter Gennett to DL

Thu, 28 Apr 2016 08:27:38 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers 2B Scooter Gennett (oblique) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right oblique tightness Thursday, April 28. INF Hernan Perez was recalled from Class AAA Colorado Springs. SP Matt Garza (lat) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Gennett popped four homers in the early going, but he doesn't hold the kind of value to stash him in mixed leagues. Perez isn't worth more than a possible DFS flyer in good matchups.

Brewers | Three Brewers pitchers progressing

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 15:49:38 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers RP Will Smith (knee) will begin jogging soon, according to manager Craig Counsell. SP Matt Garza (lat) and RP Corey Knebel (oblique) are both "progressing the right way."

Fantasy Tip: All three pitchers are currently on the DL and won't be back for a while. With Jeremy Jeffress looking good in the closer's role, Smith and Knebel have become afterthoughts for Milwaukee's bullpen. Garza is one to watch when he returns in deep mixed leagues, but he's not worth stashing for now.

Brewers | Matt Garza out 4-6 weeks

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 14:09:10 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (lat) said he will be out at least four to six weeks.

Fantasy Tip: That kills any value Garza may have had in mixed leagues for the time being. Tyler Cravy is an option to enter the rotation at Garza's expense, but he's only worth eyeing in NL-only leagues.

Brewers | Matt Garza to the DL

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 10:13:18 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (lat) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain Tuesday, April 5, and SP Tyler Cravy was recalled from Class AAA in a corresponding move. The disabled list stint is retroactive to April 2.

Fantasy Tip: Garza likely went undrafted in most mixed leagues after three straight seasons of a drop in skills. His career worst season in 2015 had turned many off, for good reason. This injury to begin the year solidifies that. Taylor Jungmann will fill in in the meantime. He has strikeout upside but has been too wild to rely on outside of NL-only leagues for now.

Brewers | Matt Garza won't start Wednesday

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 15:31:11 -0700

Updating a previous report, Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) will not start against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 6. Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann will start against the Giants Wednesday, and Milwaukee SP Chase Anderson will start against the Houston Astros Friday, April 8. The rest of the rotation will be determined at a later date.

Fantasy Tip: Garza struggled mightily in 2015 with a 5.63 ERA, a 1.57 WHIP and 6.3 K/9. Those numbers don't play in any fantasy format, and Garza isn't worth owning as anything more than a desperation flier in cavernous mixed and NL-only leagues. Similarly, Anderson is best left to deeper leagues. Jungmann, on the other hand, has upside as an end-of-the-rotation arm in mixed leagues.

Brewers | Matt Garza doubtful for Wednesday

Mon, 04 Apr 2016 08:34:24 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) will have his shoulder examined Monday, April 4, and he's deemed doubtful to make his start Wednesday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Garza is a fringe mixed league option.

Brewers | Matt Garza to throw bullpen session

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 09:18:54 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) is slated to throw a bullpen session Sunday, April 3. If all goes well, he will make his scheduled start versus the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 6, according to general manager David Stearns.

Fantasy Tip: Garza left his last exhibition start Friday, April 1, due to tightness in his right shoulder. The 32-year-old right-hander went 6-14 with a 5.63 ERA in 26 appearances (25 starts) last season and should be viewed as a back-of-the-rotation option in NL-only fantasy leagues if healthy.

Brewers | Taylor Jungmann could start Wednesday

Sun, 03 Apr 2016 09:10:53 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Taylor Jungmann could start against the San Francisco Giants Wednesday, April 6, if the bullpen session for SP Matt Garza (shoulder) doesn't go as well as planned Sunday, April 3, according to general manager David Stearns.

Fantasy Tip: Jungmann went 9-8 with a 3.77 ERA in 21 starts during his rookie season last year, with 107 strikeouts in 119 1/3 innings, although he struggled mightily down the stretch. Despite his strikeout and ground-ball potential, he should be viewed exclusively as an NL-only option as a pitcher on a rebuilding team.

Brewers | Matt Garza leaves game

Fri, 01 Apr 2016 13:00:51 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) left the spring training game early Friday, April 1, because of right shoulder tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to keep an eye on the situation to see if Garza will miss extended time because of the injury. Garza should be an option in NL-only leagues if he is healthy and could be an option for owners in deeper mixed leagues looking for a starter with a favorable matchup during the season.

Brewers | Matt Garza finished for 2015

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:26:08 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (personal) has left the team team to be with his wife for the birth of twins, and he will not return this season.

Fantasy Tip: Seasonal owners can safely drop Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) from their rosters. Check back for updates on who will replace him in the starting rotation.
