Brewers | Another rough outing for Matt Garza

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 17:45:35 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza allowed seven runs on eight hits and walked a career-high six in 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Washington Nationals Sunday, Aug. 23.

Fantasy Tip: Garza's ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) ERA is up to 5.26 this year, and he now owns a 7.17 ERA in eight starts against the Nationals. He has no business being owned at FantasyScore.

Brewers | Matt Garza sets record for losses

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 00:01:11 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza picked up his 13th loss of the season, the most he has had in one year, as the Brewers fell 6-2 to the Miami Marlins on Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) only pitched two perfect innings to start this game before he fell into trouble. To say he has been a disappointment this season is an understatement. With a 6-13 overall record, Garza is overrated in FantasyScore even at this price.

Brewers | Matt Garza solid against old team

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 23:14:51 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza allowed two earned runs, three hits and two walks with four strikeouts over seven innings in a no-decision Wednesday, Aug. 12, against the Chicago Cubs.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) had a 5.55 ERA back on July 2, but he has four quality starts over the past five outings to lower his ERA to 4.82. He has re-emerged as a solid mid-level FantasyScore play. He has at least four strikeouts in five straight outings.

Brewers | Matt Garza pitches well against SD

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 17:14:57 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza gave up just two hits and one run (a homer) in seven innings while walking two and striking out five for his first win in three starts Thursday, Aug. 6, over the San Diego Padres. It was his longest outing since going seven innings against the Minnesota Twins June 6, a span of nine starts.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) looked healthy in the win over the Padres. He's had a frustrating season to go along with an injury, so he hasn't been very reliable for fantasy owners. He's also been better at hitter-friendly Miller Park this year, surprisingly. Continue to be cautious using him on FantasyScore only in the most favorable matchups.

Brewers | Matt Garza to DL

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 11:44:28 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza (shoulder) was put on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendonitis Monday, July 6, and RP Corey Knebel was recalled from Class AAA Colorado Springs in a corresponding move. The DL stint is retroactive to July 3.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) should be dropped in all shallow leagues if he was still owned. He was having a rough season with a 4-10 record, a 5.55 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP in 16 starts. It's unknown who will replace him in the starting rotation. Stay tuned.

Brewers | Matt Garza has another bad home start

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 23:49:37 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza allowed six runs and a career-high 13 hits in 6 2/3 innings Tuesday, June 16, in a 7-2 loss to the Kansas City Royals. He is 1-5 at home this year.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) is an example of why you should watch matchups in daily fantasy leagues. Garza should be avoided when he pitches at Miller Park, as his record isn't exactly spotless.

Brewers | Matt Garza looks for third straight win

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 17:42:45 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza heads into his start Thursday, June 11, against the Washington Nationals looking for his season-high third consecutive victory.

Fantasy Tip: Garza has allowed just one earned run over the past 12 innings, but he has a total of four strikeouts. FantasyScore owners ($4,100; or 8.2% of cap) could view him as a solid mid-level option at home, but keep in mind he isnít going to rack up high strikeout totals and he has a difficult matchup.

Brewers | Matt Garza shelled

Sat, 16 May 2015 20:35:16 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza allowed 10 runs on 10 hits over 3 1/3 innings in a 14-1 loss to the New York Mets Saturday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Garza ($4,100, 8.2% of cap) followed his best outing of the year with his worst, and his ERA now stands at 5.72. He has also allowed at least one home run in six straight starts and isn't an appealing option at FantasyScore right now.

Brewers | Matt Garza glad to see red?

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 19:10:20 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza is the probable start for the game Wednesday, April 29, against the Cincinnati Reds. Last season Garza went 2-0 with a 0.82 ERA in three outings against Cincinnati.

Fantasy Tip: Based on last season's numbers Garza is a solid FantasyScore play at $4,700 (or 9.4% of cap), but it is hard to get amped about any Milwaukee pitcher since they have gotten off to a such a lousy start.

Brewers | Matt Garza predicts bounce-back season

Thu, 02 Apr 2015 14:26:03 -0700

Milwaukee Brewers SP Matt Garza said he expects to have a better season this year than last Thursday, April 2, because he has rediscovered his slider.

Fantasy Tip: At 31, Garza ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is unlikely to do anything than more than what we've already seen from him. And his 2014 campaign wasn't too far off his career averages, so it is unlikely an improved slider will make a significant difference. It is worth noting it was a plus-pitch for him, though, and his runs above average when throwing his slider was as high as 13.8 in 2011, according to FanGraphs.com. All said, Garza is a streamer option in the majority of seasonal leagues and worth considering in FantasyScore contests when he has a favorable matchup.
